  1. its time to trade smith for a package of players...i rather keep him but i dont trust him and i know he will crew us if we dont trade him! smith will find a team better than us and sign with them come next year!

    Houston, are you there?
  2. Another article from the Orlando Sentinel today about Howard from Magic beat reporter Robbins. You will notice the last paragraph about the Hawks. Basically the Magic want the package of Horford and Teague. That is their first option but according to this article we are not offering Horford. http://articles.orla...magic-officials

I certainly hope this is true that the Magic would value that package. I am also confident that Ferry wouldn't touch such a deal unless he had some certainty about Dwight's future here.
  3. Great news for Hawks fans: DWIGHT UPDATE: NOT CLOSE TO A TRADE WITH ROCKETS David Aldridge http://hangtime.blog...e-with-rockets/

Only offering one draftpick and one of the rookies? We must pounce on this opportunity. Horford/Teague/Zaza/Houston 1st trumps their offer. I would then look to make a move for Scola, who can shoot much like Horford. Not sure how we could take on a bad contract unless we still have our trade exception, though. Harris/Lou Morrow/Jenkins/Stevenson ???/Korver Smith/Scola/JWilliams/Scott Howard/Petro
  4. Between JJ2, Morrow and Korver, we've got an insane wealth of shooting. Question is: with Joe gone and little post presence to speak of, who's gonna draw the double-teams for the kick out?

Well, uh, Dwight Howard of course.

  5. Top 3?? Off the top of my head and in no particular order, other than ALL BEING BETTER THAN JOE JOHNSON: 1) Kobe 2) D-Wade 3) Manu 4) Harden 5) Monta 6) Eric Gordon 7) JET 8) Ray Allen 9) (healthy) Brandon Roy JJ is a nice player, but how can you NOT be resentful as a fan when he's making more money than every single elite player in the NBA but doesn't have close to the same production?

I am very happy we were able to move JJ, but this list is ridiculous. Contract aside, I would never trade Joe for Monta or Terry. I might not even move him for Gordon.
  6. At this point I suppose it's normal after 2 pretty big trades. I guess they are done in the trade department unless the Magic can make up their mind on what they wanna do, the Hawks are still front runners as far as I know. If you notice Ferry has been looking mainly at knock down shooters, drafting Jenkins and trying to land Lewis. I believe Howard is at least slightly fond if Lewis, after playing with him for a while. Seems as though he is creating an atmosphere specifically for Dwight, almost recreating the Magic team that went to The Finals. As far as trying to find suitors for the inside/outside game. Seems as though the team is ready for Dwight, the question is when/if he is ready for us. It seems Ferry is willing to do pretty much anything to get Dwight here, from what I've seen so far he is doing a good job. I can't wait to see what Ferry does next. This is the most excited I've been for the franchise since 2008 when Horf was a rookie. Its still a long shot but hopefully the dynasty 2013 rumor becomes more than just a dream!

My one hope (and I am sure Ferry is considerably smarter than this considering his recent moves) is that we don't start adding small pieces long-term until we know who our big pieces are. For example, if we are on the market for a starting SF, I would rather overpay for a one-year deal than give multiple years at a more reasonable price. Also, I sure hope Monta Ellis, Andre Iguodala, etc., are not our backup plans. If we can't acquire the superstar guys we are referring to, we have as good of a shot at winning through the draft as we would with second and third fiddles playing first fiddle.
  7. I'm of the opinion that CP3 is not what the Hawks need. I think this will become evident next season. I'm surprised people haven't been seemingly more excited about the Harris trade considering this is the best point guard the Hawks will have had in a long time. He took the Mavs to the Finals in '06, something Chris Paul has never done. Plus he seems to stay healthy. Obviously Dwight would make a huge difference to our squad but I just don't think that is going to happen... so where does that leave us? Do we go after CP3 because he is the biggest name that we actually might have a chance to land or should we be patient and wait for someone that will make more of an impact?

I am definite agreement that Harris is a huge upgrade over Teague. With Teague approaching RFA status. I am not comfortable giving him a long-term deal. Having said that, we may as well put him in a deal. Are we going to give a potential backup PG a long-term deal? We should move him while he has solid value. There are a few teams that could use a PG right now. I would like to move forward with Harris. If we do not succeed in acquiring CP3 or Howard, things will get quite interesting.
  8. With the Farmar buyout, we currently sit at 12 players (assuming Ivan and picks are in the stable) at about 56 million. Assuming a trade of Horford, Harris, Petro Houston's first rounder and filler or Zaza, Teague, Horford, other and the first rounder we can technically squeeze it in. Currently Orlando is way, way over the LT and so invoking the 150% rule to take back extra salary from them is doing them a huge favor...meanwhile, we have 14 million under the LT (give or take).Horford, Harris, Petro, + 1st forHoward, Hedo is doable. We line upTeague / fillerJenkins/MorrowHedu/StevensonJosh/Ivan/ScottDwight/ZazaAnd Lebron, Wade, Bosh are collectively found cursing, wallowing in a bar.

I don't believe we have to take Hedo. Will Orlando find a better deal than Horford, Teague, and Zaza? Houston can send draftpicks, but they cannot send a Horford-type piece.
  9. Huh? Not saying Morrow is an all-star, but even considering the terrible year he had last year his career TS% and career eFG% would have put him at #3 on the Hawks in both categories last year. When he's playing to his averages he's a top 10 jump shooter in the league.

According to RealGM, Joe for Morrow/Petro would work straight up. I would do this deal yesterday if NJ would. --Enter fantasy land--Horford/Teague/Zaza for Howard/Harper...then we go shopping for free agents...
  10. Ray Allen"@Chris_Broussard: Miami can pay $3 mill/yr. ATL, Dallas and Los Angeles Clippers also interested in Ray Allen."Rashard Lewis"@SpearsNBAYahoo: Expect Heat, Celtics, Lakers, Hawks and Knicks to have interest in free agent Rashard Lewis once he clears waivers, source tells Y!"Brandon Bass"@SpearsNBAYahoo: While Celtics free agent Brandon Bass interested in re-signing, Pacers, Nets, Mavs, Heat (sign and trade), Knicks and Hawks intrigued too."

It is nice to see our name up everywhere. We will at least be active.
  11. Howard definitley doesnt want to go to a team that cant compete. If JJ to NJ is a precurser to a D12 deal..........then maybe we have something, but it would leave a hole at SG.

I agree, Vol. Moving Joe Johnson in a salary dump wouldn't be our only move if D12 was a legitimate option.
  12. Im pretty darn sure the Hawks are in the DHoward talks. Ferry was brought in here for a reason, and the ASG will spend the money for a big time player, they just dont understand you have to have good role players to win a championship. That being said, I would not be surprised in the least if Howard became a Hawk.

It would be irresponsible of Ferry to at least not try to get involved. Horford would be the best young prospect that they could get in the frontcourt. We must move Joe Johnson to ever think of the opportunity of building something around Howard.
  13. Atlanta receives: Kyle Lowry, Kevin Martin, and Luis ScolaHouston receives: Joe Johnson, Jeff Teague, and Zaza PachuliaIf Houston values Kyle Lowry as much as the trade rumors seem to portray, this trade has absolutely no chance of looking fair to Houston. I also suppose this may depend on how quickly Lamb is expected to develop.Dragic/TeagueJohnson/LambWhiteJones/Patterson/Morris/ParsonsDM/ZazaMehh...This probably is not what Houston is looking for.Just for fun, however, we can follow it up with the ATL/MIN/LAL trade that was talked about in the previous thread.DWilliams, Milicic, Webster (non-guaranteed), and Ridnour to AtlantaGasol and Marvin to MinnesotaSmith, Barea, and Ellington to LALowry/RidnourKMart/JenkinsDWilliamsHorford/Scola/Scott????/MilicicWe could go with Lowry/Jenkins/KMart/DWilliams/Horford if up-tempo. My favorite component following these moves is that Horford will be our only $10+ million player after this coming season. Horford, Lowry, and DWilliams gives us a solid young core that will cost about $20-25 million total for another 3 seasons. Without knowing the exact numbers, dropping KMart and Milicic off the payroll next season would give us the flexibility to go after a max or near max player.Just for fantasy purposes of course....Dwight Howard?Lowry/Williams/Horford/Howard core? Wow.

  14. Brad Miller retired and D Williams looked like a SF because it was the only way he could get minutes behind one of the best PFs in the league. Williams actually has better measurables than Al and Josh with his length. Swap out Miller with Darko who is also technically an expiring (last year only a mil guaranteed) and this can work but if Martell is to be included this would be something done very soon because his deal becomes guaranteed on the 1st.

I obviously looked over Miller's retirement. At this moment, I would be willing to trade Smith to Minnesota as long as Marvin was moved in the deal, too. If Martell's deal is not guaranteed, that makes this deal significantly better, in my opinion. We would have a little breathing room to offer a nice short-term deal to a proven veteran.Atlanta: DWill, Milicic, Ridnour, Webster (12-13 not exercised)Minny: Gasol, MarvinLA: Smith, Barea, EllingtonLA gets their guy (Smith) and receives a point guard who is better than Blake. Minnesota gets their interior scorer to go with their versatile big in Love.Rubio/WesJ/Budinger/Love/Gasol with Pekovic as Love/Gasol BU. That is actually a very nice looking lineup. Playmaking PG with shooters and a go-to post player. Barea/Bryant/MWP/Smith/Bynum for LA. Teague/RidnourJohnson/JenkinsWilliamsHorford/ScottZaza/MilicicWe would be on the market for either a starting SF or a starting C depending on Williams' position.
  15. Exactly. I used Barea and Johnson instead. We'd be doing it for a time sharing PG, a youngster, a roster filller, and financial flexibility. This would have worked better BEFORE the draft because perhaps we could have picked up Hummell or another 1st round rookie throwing in our second or a future 1.

This deal works, but I am still not a fan of Derrick Williams. Atlanta receives: DWilliams, MWebster (expiring), BMiller (expiring), and LRidnour ***hopefully a 2013 draftpickLA receives: JSmith, JBarea, and WEllingtonMinny receives: PGasol and MWilliamsTeague/RidnourJohnson/JenkinsDWilliams***/WebsterHorford/ScottZaza/Miller***After watching some highlights of DWilliams from 2012, he looks like a SF. All of his clips were driving to the basket or shooting 3s. That team has more future cap flexibility, but looks like a significantly worse team. Unless a future lottery pick is the key piece we are receiving from Minnesota, I do not see them as good trading partners for us.
