....and they just drastically overpaid for one of their "big names" who has played a total of 41 games in 3 years.  Their other "big name" can't shoot and is a poor defender.  The latest #1 overall draft pick big name shoots so poorly they have tried to change the way he shoots, and now he has fluid building up on his shoulder.

Or how about the Timberwolves and their 12+ years of no playoffs/lottery picks?  They were supposed to challenge the established order of the Western Conference this year.  They just gave a monster contract to the much overhyped Andrew Wiggins.  Yet, here they are, 2-3 with close to a -10 point differential.

Timberwolves were bad, but were able to attract free agents because of their young talent. Jimmy Butler was a trade, but there's no way he would have been okay with being traded there if he didn't want to be there. He's also played 3 game this season and they've won two of them.

The 76ers are 1-4 with almost the same point differential as this shitty Hawks team, but they are going to be contenders soon!!  The 76ers are the great white hope for the pro tanking crowd, but here we are 6 years into their rebuild, and they still suck.

They've got young, big names though. Like it or not, that's what you need. It's sort of a recruiting tool. If Paul Millsap and Al Horford were bigger names even if they were the same level of talent, then the Hawks would be in much better shape.

The team could have rebuilt and fielded a competitive team.

This is nothing but a 76ers style tank job.

And for the millionth time. The sixers are going to be a contender. Soon. You just have to be patient. At least they have a much better fanbase that actually had fun with the process.

I call bull.  More than the 60 win season?

Maybe not on a game to game basis, but I'm much more invested in the team now than then. To be fair, the 60 win team is what made me a big basketball fan in the first place, but I still didn't watch every game even during the winning streak. Now I really want to watch every Hawks game because I just want to watch John Collins play. I spend much more time online looking at basketball stuff becaus I am so psyched for the future of this team. It's like the whole year is draft season which I think is the best time of the year. Even when I was watching like 20 basketball games a year I still wouldn't miss a pick of the draft.

I had much more fun when we went a month not losing and looked like contenders!

I never believed we were contenders though. I had a ton of fun watching that month, by now I just feel so hopeful for the future. If John Collins didn't look so good it wouldn't be fun, and I'd be a lot less hopeful. Watching a guy who just turned 20 dropping double doubles in 20 minutes in half of his first 4 games has my psyched. That could be the kind of player who lures talent to your team in free agency.

  6. I mean, if it were me, I'd  be playing the baptist almost all game and giving him the full green light. I don't even care if we are losing, he gets me hyped. He's getting a bunch of fouls in just 20 minutes though, so we might see him hit the bench early anyway. I say he probably will sit the bench until Ily it Dedmon get moved at the deadline.

I think Crowder will be a very nice add for Cleveland.  They badly needed another good wing defender.

So he'll end up guarding Iggy when they play the warriors. Curry and IT can not guard each other. Wade can guard Klay, Bron guards KD, Crowder guards Iguadola, and Love guards Draymond. That's pretty nice for Cleveland in the only matchup they care about.

  8. I can't see it happening without some allstar level breakout players. If the team backs up into the playoffs like they did last year, that's very very detrimental to the future. The good news is, this team should be terrible. Much more terrible that the other teams in the bottom of the east. Our best player is an average PG.

A scan of the local beat writers' opinions as well as a couple of national writers indicates there's informed reason to believe we're in on both JaMychal Green and Jonathon Simmons.

But the sense I get is, both of those camps, as well as a few others like Nerlens Noel's, are waiting to see what the Nets decide to do with the space they recovered just tonight evidently from the ill-fated attempt at striking a deal with Otto Porter.

Notably, the Nets have an over-abundance of wings as it is, but Green's situation probably impacts how the Hawks prioritize their approach with Simmons. That is, they almost certainly would rather acquire Green, but between the Nets' money and the Grizzlies presumed desire to keep him, probably have acquiesced to the idea that he's out of their reach--short of a premium price that they're clearly not inclined to pay.

If not Simmons, imo, the next option may very well be Luc Mbah a Moute, who would accept a role behind Prince almost without question, and would provide his trademark consistent defense. This past season, too, was a banner year for him behind the arc.

Another option, imo, that no one else talks about is James McAdoo.

All those signings would be very good for this season. I'm very pro tank, but adding young pieces won't make the team too good, and can create an environment for a star to shine when we finally find one. Green and Simmons feel like they could end up like Demarre and Millsap in terms of striking gold on a bargain.

That wouldn't fly in Georgia.  So we need to come up with something else.   Nique and Bob will come up with something.  "The Anchorman" was a good one for Millsap.   And Nique came up with "9 to 5" for Ivan.

Well sports writers have already started using John the Baptist and he's even posted it on Instagram.

But what would they be getting? Knicks need to be compensated for trading Melo. With that, they would also need to be compensated for sending out a pick. HOU doesn't have much to offer and nor do we.

Thinking Ariza and possibly Gordon are going to be involved if it is a 4-team trade. I would be fine taking on Anderson if we were able to dump Plumlee.

They have THJ $71 million. These aren't rational people
