  1. There is no way I'm touching Marvin's deal until he shows us. Thats nuts. We'd be stuck with an albatross. No team would trade for a guy averaging 8mil who is putting up 12/4 or whatever.

Marvin has to put up before we offer him a big contract. If he do have a breakout year then we gambled and lost, but he would still be a RFA and we still can do a sign and trade.

If he passes medical test next week, Hawks will sign 7-foot-1 center Dalibor Bagaric to a one-year guaranteed contract. Bagaric was former first round pick of Chicago Bulls, but was out of the league once his rookie contract expired. He has gained experience playing in Europe since then, but it is highly questionable what he can bring to the team.

Bagaric is typical center, with great height, good wingspan and strong body. He is slow footed and below average athlete overall. Has some moves on the low block, but is mechanical and stiff in his movements. He can do a good job on the glass and is solid post up defender, but his lack of quickness gets exposed in screen&roll game.

Bagaric had back problems throughout his career, which decreased his durability. He is also quite foul-prone.

What do you guys know about him? If it is true.

Here is a little artice from FIBA Europe.

    Dalibor Bagaric

Career: Karlovac (Croatia-A-2, 1996-97), Benston Zagreb (Croatia-A-1, 1997-98), Cibona Zagreb (Croatia-A-1, 98-1999), Benston Zagreb (Croatia-A-1, 1999-2000), Chicago Bulls (NBA, 2000-03), Olimpiakos Pyraeus (Greece-ESAKE, 2003-04), Fortitudo Bologna (Italy-Lega, 2004-06), Akasvayu Girona (Spain-ACB, 2006-07). Selected in the first round (#24) of the 2000 NBA draft by the Chicago Bulls

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Born and raised in Germany, Dalibor moved to Croatia when he was 14 and started playing basketball. The Munich native was the only player born in 1980 on the U18 team that won the European Championship in 1996. After playing for the youth Cibona team, he was lent to Karlovac and then to the second division with Benston Zagreb. Bagaric went back to Benston in the fall of 1999 where he averaged 18.3 points and 10.3 rebounds per game, a performance which led to the Chicago Bulls selecting him with the 24th pick of the 2000 NBA Draft. It was probably a little soon for the move and he spent most of his three seasons in Chicago sitting on the bench. So he signed with Olimpiakos in search for some playing time and later signed with Fortitudo Bologna and today he is a totally new player, a true center who is very good on offense, a solid defender and rebounder and has a soft touch. Last summer, he almost decided to go back to the NBA and sign with the Grizzlies, but some financial issues forced him to sign with Girona. Not a bad choice considering Bagaric helped Girona to EuroCup title.

  3. I don't know what you mean by "dime out". I'm in the dark here. But regardless, it's not his team. That's the whole deal. He may have it one day. If that is the case, I'm sure the NBA would reward his attention to the greater good of the league if he informed them of Hawk misdoings. Those picks would surely be restored if Belkin gained control of the team. Again though, Im in the dark about the "diming out".

A review of filings since the case was remanded to the circuit court revealed several new dimensions:

    > The first mention in court records, by the non-Belkin owners, of an alleged contributing factor to the feud's 2005 eruption: Belkin "falsely accusing fellow owner Bruce Levenson of player tampering, which resulted in an NBA investigation and which could have resulted in the loss of the Hawks' first-round draft picks for five years."

(Tampering generally refers to recruitment of other teams' players. No further details were provided.)

This is the reference to "diming out" the organization. I am sure all the teams have some illegal tactics they use to improve their team. I am also sure when they do them no one worries about part of the leadership team running to the league office to report it.

  4. So your pro Belkin? Interesting. I always thought he wasn't interested in building a franchise here. Maybe he was the only one who was serious and they disagreed with him.

I never really had a feeling one way or the other about Belkin taking over the team. I never brought into the "running the team on the cheap" argument because I know this man had been trying to get an NBA team for over 20 years and to finally have one and run it in the ground just didn't seem too smart for for such a successfully businessman. The JJ trade... which really defined him to most of us fans basically came down to what side of the compensation debate you were on. So I never was "pro" or "anti" Belkin, BUT....

Since the story has come out that he tried to dime out the team to the NBA which could have cost us 1st round picks for 5 years, all I can say about him now is f@ck him. I don't want no one who can sell our Hawks down the drain to have anything to do with the team.

  5. I've been impressed so far with Stefanski.

I don't have a problem with him but I think luck has a lot to do with his situation. He came to one of a few teams with alot of cap room this off season. Then one of the premier power forwards opts of his contract and wants to come back to the east coast. He overpayed for Iggy (IMO.) One thing I can say is he didn't lose any of his FAs.

  6. Marvin to Seattle for Swift/Green.

I don't think that there's anything that special about Marvin. Everybody knows that. However, if we hold Marvin til the offseason we will be forced to either pay him or let him go. I would rather not be in that situation with Marvin. The remedy is this. Trade Marvin during the season for Green and Swift.

I'll say that Green is a poor man's Marvin. In fact, March and April wasn't so bad for Mr. Green.

Marvin could be that young vet for Durant and Westbrook.

I agree we have to keep a close eye on Marvin because of his RFA status, but his worth might not be as low with other teams as it is with you. He is only 22 years old, improved every year, and still has not played for a real head coach.

  7. We need s good conspiracy here on HS. Anyone got one in mind????

Damn...this guy says he has built his weight up, running sprints to get faster with his added weight, and working on shooting the three and all some want to focus on is the fact he is taking some classes.

  8. I wonder..

Doesn't Belkin still get a say in the resigning of our FAs past 5 years? I thought we only had a 4 yr window without Belkin's say. Could it be possible that Belkin is the reason we can't get these guys signed??

    :cant believe:

I don't think so because Childress had a deal for 5 years on the table and all reports say Smooth has a deal more than 5 years on the table but the money just is not right.

  9. Forgive me if someone else has asked this question, but with the signing of Evans and if the Hawks tender a QO to Childress would that take up our MLE and hamper our availibility to sign anyone else?

  10. The question will be how many spots are open. Solomon, Mario, and Jeremy have the most experience with the club. Othello Hunter showed the most consistent impact throughout Summer League, but Luke Jackson, Thomas Gardner, and Demetric Bennett all had flashes

I got this feeling Solomon is not in the plans anymore.

I am in Vegas watching the summer league. As I'm sitting watching the Lakers/Sixers game I see JChill walk in with a short guy (I'm guessing his agent). I sat there wondering why he would be in Vegas watching, especially since the Hawks are going to play in SLC. I then saw him and his agent walk over to the Spurs game. Sure enough, I see his agent chatting with Spurs GM RC Buford and then Popovich walks up the stairs to meet them. Is there a chance the Spurs will try and get a S&T done???

Who is this guy? Is he credible?

Not sure if he is credible, but all he said was he seen a guy who he assumes is Chillz agent walk up stairs with GM and Popovich.

  12. I don't believe any of this about Smooth not wanting to play here as long as Woodson is the coach, but it's about time for him to come out and say it to the national media. I know his dad put a lot of people at ease in the local area and Sekou says he never heard of this, but Smooth need to say it out loud too if it's not true.

The Hawks now is his best chance to get a biggest payday so there is no reason for his agent to continue to drive up his price and let this lie (if it is a lie) continue to roll.

This tell me that FA went on other teams started to take the Hawks seriously. At the start it was basically they are all talk and won't match. It seem with each passing day I guess they finally realize the Hawks are serious.

I think that's a Clippers' PR move to justify to their fans why they didn't offer Smooth a contract. What did they have to lose? They could have waited seven days to find out if the Hawks would match and then waited another seven days to see if Charlotte would have matched an Okafor offer if they wanted too. The point is Camby was not going anywhere. Denver wanted to dump salary so they only wanted to deal with a team with the cap room to take his contract without taking anything back. They only want their fans to think the risk was too high.

Slow And Steady: The LA Clippers got their first piece of business done, signing and introduction Baron Davis. Besides playing damage control on Elton Brand, the Clips have been busy talking with restricted free agents such as Josh Smith (Hawks), Emeka Okafor (Bobcats) and now Andris Biedrins (Warriors). All three players can have offers matched by their respective teams, although of the three Josh Smith seems the most obtainable because of Atlanta's ownership situation. According to sources near Smith's camp, Josh is not sold that the Clippers are a better situation for him than the Hawks. In Smith's case an offer from or the hint of a real offer from the Clippers might simply be leverage to get the Hawks to the table on a real deal. The $60 million given to Andrew Bogut this week by the Bucks, sets the bar for front court players like Biedrins and Okafor, but also for Smith. The Clippers are also saying they will re-open discussions with Shaun Livingston about returning, but have renounced his rights meaning he has to fit under the cap space the team has. Livingston has talked with several teams including the Denver Nuggets. Clippers President Andy Roser said yesterday that his team would be talking to a number of players, and would regroup to make some final decisions, hinting that offers were not coming any time soon.

This article is from Hoopsworld. Something tells me the Clips arent exactly foaming at the mouth to make Smoove a huge offer. Only time will tell though.

If it's true Smooth is not sold on the Clipps, then the Clipps has to be one of the dumbest organizations if they offer him a contract knowing their cap will be tied up for seven days and the Atl ownership has promised they will match. Why will they risk losing out on the other two while they wait for Atlanta to match?
