  1. Is his contract a trade asset even if he does not retire? It seems like some team may wish to trade for a contract which will be paid mostly by insurance. Didn't the Hawks trade for a "retired" guy (Terrell Brandon as I recall) just b/c his contract was being paid by insurance and was also expiring?

    Comments?

  2. We cannot afford to sign everyone to a long term extension. Some choices will inevitably have to be made.

Question: What do we do? The way JS is playing, he will get 5 yrs/60 million. JJ is still a big cap hit. MW will command a nice extension (which he will deserve -- he is becomming a MAN). Al is probably a max player at some point. JC is worth a MLE. If Acie pans out then there is another 6 or 7 million at least when he comes up for extension. If we sign everyone then our cap is probably approaching 75 or 80 million.

    Just wondering what everyone thought.

  3. As I look at the Hawks as compared to some of the teams with whom we are competing for a playoff spot, I am encouraged. It seems like Cle lives and dies with Lebron. NJ lives and dies with JKidd. Toronto cannot succeed w/o Bosh. The hawks, however, seem to have a more diverse set of weapons. JJ can stink and we can still win. We seem to have a greater margin of error. That is especially true since Marvin is becomming a MAN before our very eyes. Josh lights it up from time to time. AJ and Al seem to provide some real stability. Just my random musings. Thanx for listening.

  4. IT CAN NOW INTELLIGENTLY BE DISCUSSED. IS THIS A PLAYOFF TEAM? ASSUMING THEY IMPROVE AND THAT THEY GET HEALTHY, I THINK THE ANSWER IS CLEARLY YES. LOOKING AT THE SCHEDULE,

3-1 FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE MONTH SEEMS POSSIBLE. THAT MAKES US 15-13 WHEN THE NEW YEAR STARTS.

WE CAN GET ON A STREAK IN JANUARY. 2 REASONABLY WINNABLE ROAD GAMES (IND AND CLE) AND THEN 5 IN A ROW AT HOME (NJ, CLE. WASH. CHI, DEN) THEN MILWAUKEE AND TORONTO ON THR ROAD. BE NICE TO SPLIT THOSE 2 ROAD GAMES. PORTLAND AT HOME. THEN 5 OUT WEST. DEN, SEATLLE, PORTLAND, PHOENIX AND CLIPS. 9-6 OR 10-5 IS POSSIBLE FOR JANUARY. THAT WOULD MAKE US 24-19 OR 25-18 AT THE TURN.

IN FEBRUARY: HOME TO NJ, LAKERS. CLE AND PHI. 2-2 OR 3-1

THEN AT HOUSTON, HOME TO DETROIT, THEN ON THE ROAD AT CHARLOTTE, LAKERS, SAC, GS, UT, SA --- WE WILL KNOW A LOT AT THIS POINT -- THEN CONCLUDE THE MONTH WITH HOME AGAINST SAC AND NYK. IF WE CAN ESCAPE THIS WITH A MONTHLY RECORD ANYWHERE NEAR 500 THEN WE WILL BE IN BUSINESS. BUT THIS WILL BE UGLY. 6-8 OR 5-9

MARCH HAS NO LONG HOME STANDS OR LONG ROAD TRIPS. 10-7 OR 9-8

APRIL HOME WITH TOR AND PHIL. NEED TO WIN BOTH AT THIS POINT IN THE SEASON. THEN AT PHILA, IND AND NYK. HELL, WE COULD WIN ALL 3 OF THOSE. THEN HOME TO BOSTON AND ORLANDO AND CLOSE AT MIAMI. WE COULD WIN 6 OF THESE.

THIS DESCRIPTION GETS US ABOUT 48 WINS.

THAT GETS IT DONE. I STILL MAINTAIN THAT THE WORST OF THE SCHEDULE (EXCEPT FOR THE AFORESAID WESTERN RT IN FEB) IS OVER AND WE ARE STILL STANDING. IN PAST YEARS, WE WOULD HAVE BEEN 6-18 AFTER 24 GAMES AND JUST BE BURIED.

TONIGHT WAS A GREAT GAME. IT WAS EXCITING TO SEE AL DEMAND THE BALL IN THE SECOND QUARTER. IT IS EXCITING TO SEE MARVIN GROWING UP BEFORE OUR VERY EYES. IT IS EXCITING TO SEE JOE GETTING HIS SH T TOGETHER AGAIN. AJ MAKES IT ALL WORK;. A LOT OF US HAVE BEEN FRUSTRATED FOR A WHILE. THIS IS NOW GETTING EXCITING.

THANX FOR LISTENING TO MY MEANDERING THOUGHTS.

  5. This trade, which seemed insignificant at the time, could turn out to be critical to this teams success. He played an absolutely terrific game against Utah. Great win.

The worst of the schedule is over. We should be a playoff team if we get healthier.

  6. I disagree with the assessment that next months schedule is overly difficult. When i look at their schedule in January, it is not until January 23 (at Denver) that I see a game that we probably do not have at least a reasonable probability of winning. After beginning with road games at indiana and cleveland, we then have home games against NJ, cleveland, Wash, chicago and Denver. All winnable. Then Milwaukee and Toronto on the road. Both doable. Then Portland at home. Also winnable. then Denver on the road. Problematic. Then at seattle and portland -- winnable -- phoenix on the road - loss -- and then the clips on the road - winnable. That is January. If we continue to improve and get healthy, we could make a move in January.

  7. Before the season started, i carefully looked at the schedule and thought that if we were about .500 at Christmas (I think that was 24 games) that we would be OK. Remember, the schedule has been incredibly difficult to this point and we are surviving. The reason it is frustrating is that we all realize that if we won the games we should have won in addition to the numerous upsets. that we would be about 10-6 at worst and everyone would be singing our praises.

This team will get better. Al is a beast. Marvin is getting to be more consistent. Josh fills up the stat sheet most every night. And even when Joe cannot throw it in the ocean he still gets 8 assists.

Thanks for listening. It will be enjoyable being in a playoff chase. No guarantees on the result -- but with a little luck and a limited amount of injuries -- we should be in the hunt. That will be fun.

  8. Had we won last night, many on this board would have been planning a championship parade down Peachtree Street.

Sure, we played like hell last night, and at this point Boston is a better team than are we.

Lets not forget that this opening schedule has been brutal. Frankly, I am OK with a 2-3 record at this point.

  9. Dog did.

TMZ has learned that Dog the Bounty Hunter has already contacted Rev. Al Sharpton, hoping to explain the racist telephone call Dog made to his son.

We're told The Rev, who is currently preaching in Daytona Beach, Fla., and hasn't heard the tape, is considering having a dialog with Chapman, but will not make his decision until he has a chance to listen.

  10. Dog is a jerk. But, the first thing he did was call Al Sharpton. This is disgraceful. Al Sharpton is a race pimp. Life was easier when sticks and stones would break my bones etc. Now, everyone is looking for a reason to be "outraged and offended". We have become a society of victims. I wonder when it will be a criminal act to utter certain words. Soon enough I am sure. This is so sad.

  11. This thread has contained a good and interesting discussion. I think this is a bad decision that ended with a good result. I also think there will be many unintended consequences when we let the judiciary perform what is a legislative task.

Again, good analysis and good discussion on the board.

  12. Now that all the hand wringing is over about who is sorry and who should take a chill pill -- the reasoning in this decision is so laughably bad that it should not pass for a Judicial opinion. While I certainly agree that a 10 yr mandatory minimum for sex amongst teens is clearly excessive, that is not the issue. At some point, the people acting thru their reps get to say what the law is. All the Supreme Court did was say that the people were wrong. They talk about some "consensus" that this sentence is cruel and unusual -- but that statement is provably wrong. There is no such consensus. The legislature had several opportunities to change this law and they never did.

My point is not that Genarlow Wilson should remain in prison. My point is simply that a consensus of 4 lawyers

(the decision was 4-3) was able to completely disregard the will of the people as expressed thru their elected officials. This is dangerous. What is there were a very conservative court? Do we want them to disregard laws they may not agree with? I think not.

thanx for listening. these are my thoughts. i am a lawyer and I find this stuff interesting.

Oh, and just to make this post germane to this site-- Go Hawks.
