1. He's better than Bruce. He is actually a decent player regardless of system but he shines with us.

I agree. I think he has a better skill set than Bowen did. However, Bowen became an integral part of the Spurs championship runs by doing all the non glamorous stuff, mainly guarding the other teams best perimeter players and hitting timely corner 3s. DeMarre does the same for us. However, the national media and audience are sleeping on him. They don't realize how much of a glue guy he is for us. When they see him play on the playoffs, they will start respecting him like they did Bruce Bowen.

  2. I think Ferry and Bud will let Teague go to Milwaukee and attempt to bring in Jennings at a great price. Ferry and Bud have talked about wanting competitors in the past. That's what Jennings is. He has that fire in him. Teague seems too casual for our GM and coach's liking. Jennings is much more of a pure point guard with the competitive spirit in him. He was playing with garbage in Milwaukee and was able to take the Hawks to 7 games in 2010. There were a couple of games where he literally took over. I think you put him in the right system with better talent and his game flourishes.

  3. How are we not sure that Horfords "request to play PF" was really him requesting Josh Smith be traded? That he couldn't directly express his frustration about Josh so this was the politically correct way to say it. Perhaps Ferry and management know that he doesn't mind playing center on a team that plays the right way. and that is why they went out and got Millsap. A true center like Bynum (if healthy) would just be icing on the cake.

  4. If this was a possibility, then Dwight would be a Laker by now because Bynum isn't resigning with ORL, if he gets traded.

Yeah, but we can offer young talent (Teauge), expirings (any of the guys from the Nets trade-I believe they can be traded again, its just signed free agents that you can't trade immediately...correct me if i'm wrong), and draft picks (I don't believe Lakers have any left after the Nash trade) in addition to Smoove. And if we go thru Houston, perhaps they have a better chance of convincing Smoove to resign there than they do of Bynum.
  5. I think/hope Ferry is offering a package centered around Josh Smith. Yeah yeah, I know that we feel we need to have Smith here in order for Dwight to resign with us, but hear me out. Since Dwight hasn't agreed to resign with us (with his buddy Smoove here already) and since Smith isn't impressed with Ferry's moves so far (http://blogs.ajc.com/hawks/2012/07/09/atlanta-hawks-danny-ferry-tries-to-ease-josh-smiths-concerns/) , there's no way I'm trading Al Horford for a one year rental of Dwight. But I would trade Josh Smith for that 1 year rental. If Dwight doesn't resign with us, then its the same as Smith leaving at the end of next year, but we actually get a buzz at Phillips/Atlanta for a year. And we still have Horford to build around (who is a leader, a 2 time AllStar and someone that I would much rather build around than JSmoove). Also, while its great to play with your buddies, winning is more important. The combo of Howard-Horford is a better fit than Howard-Smith and will lead to more wins. At the end of the season, with Dwight's preferred destination-Brooklyn-out of the equation, we have Dwight's bird rights and a possibility of adding CP3 to the mix. A big 3 of Dwight-Al-CP3 would be lethal. Also, I'm sure Ferry would be working all season long at changing our front office perception around the league and making us more respectable as a franchise. These things lead me to believe that we'd have a great shot at resigning Dwight. Also, I believe I read (somewhere on here) that when Dwight was asked about 5 guys he'd like to play with, Smoove was not on the list but Anthony Morrow was. Well, Morrow is here in Atlanta and we have that in our pockets to appease Dwight's desire to play with a buddy. I'm not sure on the specifics of how we could do this, but I sure hope Ferry is exploring it. If Orlando isn't directly interested in Smoove for a year (where they can see if he can be the man to build around or let him go for capspace at the end of the year) then maybe we can go thru Houston. I think Houston was interested in Smoove before.

  6.
No player is worth that. If they trade for him in a season or two he will be whinning about not having any help. Melo is a piece.

give them the picks. just make sure they're top 20 or so protected every year!

  7.
No. i won't forget that. I wish i had a video. i remember because i wasn't at home for some reason. I was in a hotel and caught the last half of the 4th. i just couldn't believe it. It happened so fast that Orlando just seemed to not even have time to think. maybe someone can dig it up somewhere. I can't imagine there are a whole lot of games where that large of a deficit was overcome in such a short period of time so you think there'd be some mention of it somewhere.

The only visual i remember from the game was mookie getting a steal i think right at half court and then maybe he got fouled or something. It was just unreal he was able to come up with a steal at a point where Orlando just needed to hold the ball.

I remember penny dribbling the ball off his foot and it going out of bounds in that crazy stretch.

speaking of overcoming large deficits, the t mac 13(?) points in the last min (?) comes to mind.

  8.
Jamal had a great season last year but let's wait and see if he can repeat it before extending him and hand-cuffing ourselves further with another bad contract. If Jamal shows he is gonna go back to being a 40% shooter from the field than we should trade his expiring contract before the deadline for some help at PG or C.

Jamal's trade value will never be higher. I am not confident that he can duplicate his numbers from last year. I think he was a perfect fit for Woody's Iso heavy system but don't see him being as successful in LD's motion offense. Granted I don't know much about the new offense, I just think Jamal's a more effective player when he can dominate the ball, even more so than Joe.

That's why I would be looking to trade him now. His $10 mil expiring contract plus his 6th man of the year season make him a valuable commodity right now. If he struggles at the beg. of the season, his value only decreases. I really like the dude as a person and as a 1 on 1 player but I think he's gotta be traded this off season.

  9. ...and did kindly invite us a couple of years ago to a discounted game, I wonder what he thinks of our comments.

Bruce, if you're out there, will you please drop in and address our chief concerns, namely the lack of post-JJ aggression/creativity and player accountability after the Orlando quit job they pulled?

SIDE NOTE: Like many of you, I did take Bruce up on the game offer, and will never forget him visiting the section and yelling "Where's Diesel?"; admittedly, I too was disappointed that the ever-elusive Big D didn't show.

Bruce--I hope you have Sund working on getting CP3 to the ATL!!!

  10. There is definitely something sexy about a Paul/Josh connection, all I'm saying is that to get him we are going to have to eat Okafor's contract and I just think it'd make more number sense with Josh involved.

I'm open either way if we got Paul. I think he would be a positive for either big when all is said and done.

JJ's a** better be on the phone w/ CP3 recruiting him right now!!!!

CP3 to JSmoove would be a lot of fun to watch, but I agree, I think Smoove will have to be included in the deal to make it work (since Al is still on his rookie deal). Either way, CP3 will make us a serious contender in the east. Get it done Sund!

    • Your playoff seeds will be: 1. Orlando, 2. Miami, 3. Milwaukee, 4. Chicago, 5. NY 6. Atlanta 7. New Jersey, 8. Indiana

Maybe Mil and Chi jump us, but no way in hell does NY overtake us.

  11. Ye of little faith. Until Shaq signs with someone else, he is still in play and an option for the Hawks. Articles in SI indicated he may have to lower his demands to the veterans minimum of 1/9 million/year to get more offers. I would think the Hawks could offer a larger slice of the MLE if it gets to that and he wants to play for a contender.

Exactly, no point in over paying him just so the fans can be satisfied in mid July. Let this thing ride out and see what happens. We still have a shot to get him and at a much better price. I agree w/ the owners, a 36 year old Shaq that wants to start isn't worth going into the luxury tax.

  12. Would we be happy with that kind of team? Does that team have any real chance of contending for a title? I've really been thinking about it lately. I want us to be considered contenders. At least look like we belong in the playoffs rather than getting our butts handed to us in the 2nd round.

If everyone's the same caliber player as last year, then No. As a young team, we are dependent on the growth of our players more than the Heat or the Lakers or the Magic. It all depends on what Teague, Marvin, Josh, and Al bring w/ them this year. Last year, Josh and Al took huge steps forward. Marvin and Bibby regressed but Josh and Al's improvement offset that.

This year, 2 things will determine how far we go:

    1. The individual developments of our young players' games. Teague, Marvin, Josh, and Al have to get better. If one of them takes a huge step forward, it makes us that much more dangerous. I believe these things are a given: bibby will continue to decline; joe, jamal, mo, and zaza will probably be the same players they were last year. Our team development lies in the development of the younger part of our "core."

    2. Does LD's coaching and system make us a more cohesive team? Does it help improve our players effectiveness by putting them in better positions to utilize their strengths? I think we all know what we can expect from Joe: 20 ppg, 5 rpg, 5apg. Will LD's system make him more effective and even more lethal than he was in Woody's Iso (non)-system? Or god forbid, will LD's system lead to less cohesion and less effectiveness?

Its all on LD, Teague, Marvin, Josh, and Al as to how much better we are going to be this year.

  13. Shaq, Okafor

    Horford, Zaza

    Barnes, Mo, Pape Sy.

    JJ, Jordan Craw

CP3, Teague, (servicable PG - The guy I wanted just signed with Charlotte).

With the rumors that CP3 is on the blocks... and that Okafor must go with him. I was thinking, this may be a time when we do what some say is impossible and bring back CP3 to be our PG and Shaq to be our Center.

I thought those rumors were dying? Especially, after they fired the GM.
