Got to make it happen
-
Trading Bebe is a no win for Ferry. He didn't get value for him. If he sucks, then he shouldn't have drafted him. If he's NBA worthy, he shouldn't have traded him.
-
and the Salmons contract was even better since it was non guaranteed until mid July.
We traded next year's cap space for cap space this year and it cost us BeBe.
Safe to say Ferry wants the most competitive team on the floor as possible for this season. He wants to beat out the Nets and take their draft pick from them...........That in itself is like trading up in the 2015 draft if we can get it done.
So we trade away last years mid first for a chance to move up a couple spots next draft....not lol.
Ferry better be able to pull in someone very big to off-set this
-
and the talk on the board last year was the same...........if we don't sign DH we'll get no one. DF had a plan and made it happen give him a chance this year.
and last year was a success?

Here is the deal...
Unless Ferry can pull off some magical trade most of what we do will result in first or second round exits. Superstars are not going to sign here. Through the draft is where the Hawks will most likely get that player, but we're never bad enough to have a shot at getting that player. The FA game has been a loser for the Hawks for decades, and Bud's system is not going to change that.
The Spurs have had a model franchise for years now, but the players still want to go to NY and Chicago. We hear this over and over again. Even with FA you often have to overcome the fact that the team often has the right to match a deal or offer the FA the most money. So, it's even harder for a franchise like the Hawks to land a star through FA.
Don't worry, Ferry understands this. That's why he's building through the draft.
-
Maybe we should try signing someone that other teams actually want. Deng is dung at this point
-
Sign Deng; move team to Canada. Welcome expansion Hawks. Always nice to see the bright side in everything

As long as my boy zach Lowe likes it I'm down
Is he a Hawks fan? It is a step backward trade. If you have to trade ASSETS to create space, then you have mis-managed.
What did he do with all that cap space from last season? Millsap and Carroll. Sap is pretty good. Won't put anyone over the top unless they're already there though and Carroll who doesn't start for 90% of NBA teams. Oh and our 6th man Korver who would be coming off the bench for 95% of NBA teams.
-
The good GM's create cap space without giving away valuable assets. Could have traded Lou for nothing and cleared his space. As of right now, this team is a mess.
This after last season's team that featured three NBA starters, two of which were severely under-sized at size positons.
I wish he would have just tanked last season.
-
Yes, we just got last season's cap space back.
-
Why did Ferry pick Bebe again? Oh yeah, to use as a throw in in a bad Lou Will for Salmons trade
-
Yeah but a lot can always happen. That's my point you just gotta wait and see not react to what hasn't happened yet
Trading last years first and a productive expiring for nothing has already happened
-
There's only one if in this; if we trade one of our starting PF's for a C in a fair trade, we will have NBA heighth.
Some ifs put Paris in a bottle, some simply balance a roster
-
Yeah but Sap at 7 ft would be a top tier NBA center. We wouldn't have a shot at him if he wasn't already a Hawk.
It's like Bledsoe is the 6'3 Nate Robinson. He can get near max, Robinson can't get the MLE.
I guess what you mean is that the 3 or four inches and extra lbs of Sap playing C at 7'0" would be much more valuable than our true Sap. So a true C with maybe slightly less skills than Sap would be equal. So the question is: are we a better team with Horf C / Sap PF or Horf PF and a C had in a fair value trade for Sap
-
Yeah....it's hypothetical. Say you make a fair trade: Sap for a C with equal value.
-
Say you could stretch out Sap to a 7'0" C and move Horf to PF. Would the Hawks better off as a team?
I guess you can see where I'm going with this; put a 7'0" C with comparable talent level as Sap next to Horf and we are a better team than with Horf at C and Sap at PF.
With our present Horf/Sap front-court we are giving up between 4-7 inches avg a night and about 50 lbs. at those two BIG men positions.
-
All this is screaming trade. Horf Sap is Horf Smith part II. I think Ferry knows we need to be bigger with the starting line up, that's why we've been hearing rumors of Horf moving. I'd rather kepp Horf and send out Milsap. Or keep both and trade some of our youth for a definate upgrade in the starting line up.
or invest in the youth...

He was the 6th best SF in the league last year according to win shares / 48.
Thanks for the link. Win shares makes him look real good. The win share stat can be influenced by factors other than just the player though, right?
-
If we can't get the top FA's, then Ferry should continue to sign lesser FA's to Hawks friendly deals. I don't think he should give Chandler the offer it would take to guarantee getting him. He would have to become a very good SF to make it a good deal for us.
I say throw a out a 4 year $33M offer. If Houston matches, move on. If not, we get a nice player, and maybe more, on a team friendly deal.
-
Parsons max should be 25% of the salary cap right @hawksfanatic, which will be around 15 million or so depending on the salary cap. And no he's not worth that amount but he's worth a good 10-12 million per.
8-9 million and he'll be a Rocket. You want the kid you're gonna have to pony up to get him.
I agree. Still say I'd like the deal at a good price. Tying $11M into a SF that may never be a top 5 SF is a bit high for Ferry's cap flexibility plan.
-
Chandler at $8-9M is OK with me. A good deal for the Hawks. $11M might not be. If he continues to improve into an All-Star then $11M is OK.
There are other options available to Ferry.
-
He was contributing nicely before the injury. He had signed with us for a very nice deal and played well. Size is a big issue on D. Doesn't fit Hawks ball movement style. Over $5M expiring that should have value to some teams as a 6th man. Showed better towards the end of the season and playoff. Should trade him

The Philadelphia 76ers, Orlando Magic and Utah Jazz have all offered their high lottery picks plus a veteran to move up to No. 1 in a deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Cavaliers aren't enamored by offers from the 76ers (Thad Young and the No. 3 pick) and Jazz (Derrick Favors and the No. 5 pick).
But the Magic offer of Arron Afflalo, along with the No. 4 and No. 12 pick is attractive to the Cavaliers.
The Cavaliers have strong interest in signing LeBron James and acquiring Afflalo would be seen as a strong move.

This board should be renamed "Hopesquawk" during the offseason.
This is a classic. Cheers

I guess at this point Ferry has chosen HIS #1 guy. A player he knows he can get and will make his offer. If he doesn't make an early offer, I guess he'll wait it out and try to get guys on the cheap. Win/win but we would all like to at least get one of the top, young second tier guys.
