  1. I don't know how the Spurs do it, but they always get the best out of their draft picks.

the spurs have what we don't have.... leadership. They play hard every night for 48 mins... and I'm sure that rubs off on every player on their roster.

  2. In a totally serious vein, I would like to see Wilkins given a shot with Evans' minutes for a few games since I've seen more from him lately than Mo. The problem with any potential Craw1 trade is that you have to first establish whether the Hawks ownership is willing to pay the tax next season. Depending on the answer, you have totally different sets of players that you could consider moving him for.

I'm with you there... or at least split them with him and JC2.

  3. crawford, marvin, zaza, draft pick to NO for ariza and okafor.......

we get our center and an effective defensive swingman who could be a problem off the bench next to JC2 and Powell.

In all honesty I don't think Ariza is all that much better (if at all) than Marvin is...after the Lakers he hasn't been anything to write home about to me. and if we did that who would start? Josh at 3? Cuz I'm Still not sold on his perimeter Defense....

  4. My guess is that Drew views Wilkins like the rest of the league did - borderline worthy of even being on a roster let alone steady in the rotation.

I wonder how the rest of the league views Mo Evans then... :/ But seriously we gotta do something... if we can package Craw1 and Mo for something useful......

  5. The sarcastic side of me wants to keep blasting the ASG but honestly as I said in other thread I didn't want any part of Shaq. It isn't money or his age or his weight. It is his attitude. He has been a cancer in every city he's played for. He has to be the most immature veteran player I've ever seen in any sport with the way he takes public personal shots and attacks at other players and coaches. I do not think for a second he can truly be happy with a backup role and minutes.

If he didn't have that attitude I'd love to have him but that's like saying you'd like to have JR Rider in his hey day but wish he wasn't crazy. You can't have both so I'm happy with neither.

co-sign...we already have immaturity in Josh Smith... last thing i'd want is for Shaq to get inside his head.

  6. Barkley was probably the greatest low post force (for his height-range) that ever played the game. He could also shoot and dribble.

Smoove cannot do any of the above even average --- at this point in his career.

No one in today's league could have effectively guarded Kareem, McHale or Hakeem down low.

No one in today's league compares to Jordan. (His hands were the difference)

No one or no team in today's league could have prevented Larry Bird from scoring.

Or Magic Johnson from running the fast-break effectively w/ that same Lakers team.

No team in today's league would have consistently beaten the 80's Laker's, Celtics or Sixers.

No one in today's league would have been able to defend Andrew Toney.

Or Dr. J on the break.

Or stop George Gervin from averaging around 30 per game.

No one would prevent (a healthy) Bill Walton from rebounding at will.

NNo one in today's league is close to the rebounder that Dennis Rodman was ---- regardless of size.

No one would push around Artis Gilmore.

Or not been susceptable to having their pocket picked by Clyde Frazier.

It's just not the case. Them cat's could flat-out play, man! These coddled little millionaire, video playing game playing, fundamental-less P***y's these days would be in for a rude awakening if they ever faced the MEN who used to to rule the NBA ---with all of their so-called "athleticism".

    CS

This is why i say lets just find Dennis Rodman and sign him for cheap. ;) lol. seriously though... maybe he could teach josh a thing or two.

  7. on the topic of smith being compared to barkley i can see the similarities. they both are athletic, usually the most athletic player on the court. they both score a lot points off of just being more athletic than everybody. neither of them is a great shooter, though barkley was a better shooter than smith. one thing that i will say about smith is that he plays in an era that actually plays defense. many may disagree with me, but i believe that past greats were made that much greater because they were so much greater than their compitition, they shot a lot of wide open shots. the league is a lot more balanced now. this is why i say kobe is a better offensive (and maybe even overall) player than jordan. kobe almost matches jordan's numbers while being played by better defenders. just look at the scores of the games. in the past teams scored well over a hundred points(120's) routinely. their offenses weren't THAT good, but the defenses were THAT bad. every great player before the mid to late nineties benefited from the bad defense. with all of this being said, will smith ever match barkely's numbers? No. the game no longer allows it. just being more athletic than everybody else (especially as a big man) doesn't get you 28ppg 11rpg. if smith played when barkley played he would have been virtually unstoppable. who knows how barkley would fare in today's game, but i don't believe he would be near the player we know him to be. a lot of times we as fans over value players on our favorite team, there's a little homer in all of us. but we also tend to under value certain players on our favorite team because we see them everyday. we know every one of their flaws, and we tend to emphasize those flaws. smith will continue to grow as a player, he's going to calm down as he gets older, his low post game will get better with touches, and his rebounding will improve as he matures. he's just 24, he's still being young. in this gerneration 24 is the new 18. i also think that smith truely wants to be special, and as long as he keeps progressing he will be. smith may be = to barkley, only time will tell.

I wouldn't say this era is better defensively.... i wouldn't even say its really all that close either. I think Josh would get abused in a lot of those 80s/90s defenses... especially against the PFs of that period.

  8. We just need a decent veteran PG..I have nothing against Teague..it's good to have developmental players..but having two slow shooters (albeit very good shooters) in the game at the same time is like having me running "showtime".

isn't that what we have right now? if they can't guard the perimeter forget about it.

  9. That's a tough question. The first thing that comes to my mind is that he said that when he first came to Atlanta. I feel like Joe Johnson has been around for awhile in this league, and as good as he is, I think he's reached his celling.

When I think of Joe Johnson, I think of Brandon Roy... he's the most joe-like player in the league to me. I can definitely see Roy becoming an elite player. I think joe will always have to take a back seat to somebody better. (Pippen anybody?)

Pippen wasn't elite? :( Didn't he lead the Bulls to the Conference Finals (sans MJ)? Only time I'd agree with that is if we're talking Rockets, Blazers, and the Chi return.

Other than that, I get what you're saying though ... IMO Joe's not aggressive enough to reach that elite tier. Not consistently anyways... be great if he was.
