  1. I do think the chest bump is intentional. I do think he will be suspended for 1 game. He was already suspended earlier this year and Stern has a ZERO tolerance policy on this kind of thing. However on a personal opinion, I do not believe he should be suspended.

  2. I tell you what Tom Thibedeau (however you spell it) is a good coach, but you have to question why he leaves his starters in games that are already over. He did it last year with Rose against Indiana and he hurt his ankle. Now he blows out his knee which will keep him out the majority of next year. Just a dumb move to make. You have to be smarter than that.

Well Rose has been injured almost all year long. What better way to shake off the rust then to put him in garbage time with some low pressure minutes. Obviously it back fired but I dont think it was a bad decision.
  3. Larry Drew on Ivan Johnson: 'He's an enforcer but he may be a little over the edge. We don't want that right now.' #Hawks

I dont understand why LD doesnt want that.. We need someone who isnt going to back down.. I realize were limited at the F-C position but if KG is gonna be doin some pushing, I expect Ivan to be right there doing the same thing..

This series is going to be a battle..

Because Garnett is a master A**hole and can get under your skin. If Ivan is on edge he is gonna get a lot of Techs really fast and then we wont have him at all.
  4. Why hasn't there been a bigger fuss about Joe Johnson's absolutely idiotic play at the end of the game? He cost us at least a second with his pass out to Kirk. You add that on along with running the LD play and...boom Marv gets fouled in time and he goes to the line.Joe annoyed me this game. Not only does he complain about lack of shots ("Imma get mine") but he also ignores his gigantic error.

Because Joe had a couple of big shots that basically kept us in the game late in the 4th. By the way Joe had 22 points on 14 shots. 1.5 points per shot is a very efficient outing.
  5. Marvin had a great game against the Knicks today - a wonderful game - but we lost.I put the blame for the loss squarely on the shoulders of one Larry Drew. A coach has to know his players - and when one player is really cooking - you can't get too excited and think he has suddenly become Larry Bird or Magic Johnson at crunch time. Bad on you LD.Marvin had done enough. What did you expect LD? You give him the ball when he has never been in a game winning situation before in the pros and expect that he won't fumble the ball and wind out the clock to zero? C'mon Coach!?!3.4 seconds to go - you had JJ inbounding the ball - apparently hoping for a pass-back? W - T - PH? Even Woody can figure that out.Lame strategy and I'm p!ssed at LD for letting one of Marvin's best games go down as a game where he screwed it up and we didn't even get a shot off from half court with 3.4 seconds left.Bad Larry - Bad bad.

......You are blaming Drew for putting the ball in the hands of a professional athlete who was hot all game? I dont even know how to respond to this.
  6. People are upset with Marvin because he was picked #2 overall. Everyone knows that getting picked there is not his fault, but the fact remains that with the #2 pick you come with expectations. When people think of Marvin they think of somebody who should have been a 25 and 7 guy, and instead is a solid bench player.

Those salaries... Egads!!! Great Caesar's Ghost, Detroit is stuck with a LOT of dead weight next season! Maybe their best move was releasing Rip without using amnesty. Otherwise, that would be $29 million in 2013-14 (two seasons from now) for Gordo, Charlie V, and Tay. Holy Frijoles!!!

    (Aside: Go Magic!)

I think Rafe Batholomew put it best in an article on grantland about a week ago.

" Can anyone explain what's happening in Detroit? First, they signed Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva to five-year contracts worth around $60 and $40 million, respectively, in July 2009. Then, last summer, they inked Rodney Stuckey, Tayshaun Prince, and Jonas Jerebko to three- and four-year extensions. Detroit didn't overpay badly in these deals, but what was the team hoping to accomplish? To lock up the core of a team that when healthy can compete for the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs?"

  8. I hope this doesn't push Zaza to the bench in the playoffs. We should run a big lineup.ZazaAlJoshJJTeaguethen runIvanMarvinTmacCpt'n KirkPargoWillie Greenoff the bench.

I like this lineup but have a few worries about it. 1. Josh way have some trouble moving with some of the faster 3's in the playoffs. And maybe drift outside more than he already does. 2. Joe seems to play better defense against 3's he might get tired running and chasing some speedy 2 guards. 3. Zaza would need to grab a lot of rebounds since Josh will be further from the paint playing the 3 and Al already plays outside the paint.
  9. Marvin was bad but really nobody played very well tonight. Joe had a bad night shooting. Josh missed open passes and had way to many turnovers. Overall the team had a pathetic night rebounding. Just a bad game. Nothing to be to worried about, there is not shame losing to the hottest team in the NBA on their court in overtime.

  10. I'm sorry but i find this comparison funny....if we offered josh for Blake straight up the clips would laugh at us. Much better offensively already, shot over 50% in his rookie year and is doing it again this year....is a 10 rebound per game guy which josh has never been. Marketing isnt even close, Blake is already at superstar status and brings fans out and could bring other free agents to a team like he's doing with the clippers. Defensively josh is better of course but its not even close in every other category....there's no question who I would takr

Well defense is kinda half of the game so that is a pretty big category that Josh is better in. There is no question that blake is a more marketable player but I dont think he is miles ahead offensively.
  11. The question then becomes how do you measure defense with a statistic? Some may say you look at blocked shots and steals. I think that gives you an idea, but it really doesn't tell you how good someone is as a defender. For example, Al Horford doesn't block many shots, but he is still a very good defender.I don't really understand exactly what all goes into defensive win shares, but I think it might be the closest gauge. Based on DWS, the two best defenders in the NBA this season are Dwight Howard and Josh Smith.

That has been a large problem with fans measuring a players defense for awhile. You have to rely heavily on the eyeball test to know if someone is a good defender particularly for perimeter defenders.
  12. It's a hard call from a strictly play stand point. Josh can create his own shot while Blake has to have a point guard to play well. But Blake plays close to the rim and Josh has a tendency to drift to the perimeter. I would probably choose Josh because I am a bit of a homer and I think Josh provides more to the team defensivly. If we are talking from a owners standpoint then I am taking Blake no question. Blake is a Superstar and josh is not.Edit: Can we please stop doing the "osh" thing? We all know he has an inconsistent jumper. Criticize him for it but lets not resort to some petty name calling.

  13. Why should Josh's PER be higher? This statement does not make any sense, I don't think you fully understand what PER is telling you. It does not tell you some all encompassing "how good the overall player is" metric. Anyone who thinks that is brainwashed by Hollinger.PER doesn't lie, its just not that effective of a measure. When you realize how ad hoc it is in all of its weights as well as how highly correlated it is with simple NBA Efficiency measure, its just not that effective outside of telling you players who put up big numbers across the board (downplaying any negative numbers like turnovers and missed shots). If you want a measure that looks at how much an individual contributes to wins then look at Win Shares. If you care about the defensive side of things, look at Defensive Win Shares. But even then, Win Shares isn't a perfect measure so you shouldn't think of it as being an ultimatum statistic.tangent/A statistic should not tell you how good/bad a player is. A specific question needs to be formulated, and then once that is formulated you analyze statistics that help look at the specific question. Statistics supplement an answer, they are not the answer./tanget

You are right of course. The Stat measures what it is supposed to measure. What I mean to say is that Any kind of overall stat, even if it doesnt exist, would in my opinion have Josh as the 3rd best PF in the league behind Love and close to Griffen.
  14. And how many of those games would have been that close without all the other things Josh provided during those games? Ill go ahead and answer, NONE!

That logic swings both ways. Since Josh is such a large part of the team and he does so many things he can be attributed to keeping us in game and also making mistakes that cost us games. Of course Joe and Al can also be accused of this at different times.
  15. To answer your question, No, I dont think they should have the same FG %. However, Josh does take so many outside shots (and more total shots) that it becomes more relevant for this particular situation.Everyone can agree Josh should chill with the outside J's.Everyone agrees that Joe is way overpaid. Some people say forget The Contract and focus on what Joe is giving the team. If you are going to do that then you need to focus on what Josh is giving the team.Well, you might say, we had to overpay to get Joe to stay.Well, I would reply with, Everyone has been hurt during the season except Josh so it makes sense that a). he would take more shots and b). that he has remained in rythm all year where as the guys coming and going from various injuries are not in good rythm and thus are deferring to Josh to shoot since he has emerged as the anchor and Iron man for this team.Just thinking out loud. These are only opinions.

I agree, Josh brings a lot to this team and his PER should probably higher than it is because it does not take into account some defensive statistics that Josh preforms well at. Josh should absolutely be 3rd team All NBA because he edges Aldridge in defensive stats and rebounds. Joe and Josh are our two most important players and there are complaints that I have against Joe as well. I just see Josh's deficiencies as more detrimental to the Hawks as a whole.
  16. 20 shots a game....50% down to 45% is 1 missed shot a game. 2 points. If that gets you better opportunities for other players (like a massive improvement in your shooting and point guards shooting percentage) and an increase in foul shots plus a reduction in turnovers. I'll take 1 less made shot a game.

The Hawks have lost 6 games this year but 1 possession or less. So yeah sometimes that missed shot can be important.Edit: Also 6 wins would put us in the 3rd seed and within one game of Miami for the division.
  17. They both take outside and inside shots whther you or i like it so the positon is irrelevant in my opinion.

I am sorry but this is just wrong. Perimeter SG's like Joe should be around 45-48% so yeah Joe is shooting just a hair under average at 44.9%. A inside PF should be shooting around 50%, see David Lee as a pretty good comparison. Josh on the other hand is shooting 45%. Anyway the point is that Joe shooting percentage is average because he takes and make outside shots. Josh shooting percentage is below average because he takes and misses outside shots. Making only 37% of his outside shots according to 82games.com
