At least Nique had a personality. Joe was a clown and a boring one at that.
What do you mean by clown? He seemed like a pretty normal guy to me.

He may forgive him publicly, but probably still bashes him behind closed doors.

1 and a half division titles.
Exactly.

My bad, I forgot about all the playoff games he won for us and the banners he put in the rafters. Apparently, good fans are supposed to be ok with treadmill teams that don't win shit. Seriously, F Joe. It's not like ASG was fighting over a superstar, just an iso-player that played crazy minutes and pissed his pants in the post-season.
Wow. How many banners did nique get us?

Seattle still needs a new stadium.......
A predominantly publicly funded stadium at that.
You know, in case you guys missed the reason why the Thunder were "justified" for ducking out in the first place and why the NBA allowed Sacramento to put in a "competitive" bid (hundreds of millions less) to keep the Kings despite the Hansen group offering upwards of 700 mil, plus the relocation fee, plus the 65 mil they already spent to buy the real estate, plus whatever billions they were going to foot mostly on their own to build an arena on the plot. The Hansen group also lost its biggest gun, Ballmer, who bought the Clippers on his own.
The arena is more or less ready to be built. I believe hansen already has almost all of the land needed to build it. They just aren't going to build an arena without a team first. The stadium is not really going to be publicly funded either. I don't remember all the details, I knew them at one point. It's more of a loan and should require nothing from taxpayers. If anything, people are more worried about traffic that a new arena downtown would bring.
We also still have Key Arena (the storm still play there), which would get some updates and would be used until the new arena is built.
We lost Ballmer, but we still have the Nordstroms
However, I'd hate for the Hawks to relocate. I'd rather get an expansion team or take the bucks or something.

I think the worst part of this now is that if I have to give up on the hawks because of this mess, it will basically be because of gearon.

He is President of basketball operations and GM. He could easily be made VP and keep his GM title.
What would be the point of that?

Someone mentioned in one of these threads, maybe this one, how no other teams or owners are really speaking out about this.
I think a lot of people around the league are realizing that this could just as easily have happened to them.
Lawyers for sterling have said that this is just the beginning. I bet we aren't the last team to go through something like this this off season.

Im a huge nique fan, but I can see hesitation on building a statue for him. Not to be a smart ass but how many guys have statues that have never even made a conference finals? In a way, it's like a celebration of our historical mediocrity.

"No longer a guessing game" is the title, followed by guesses. "I think".. Not facts.
-
I don't think most people feel that way and if they did he wouldn't have a prominent role as a commentator and ambassador of the game.
I disagree with that. I've heard Charles Barkley say why he hates white people on national TV. I've heard shaq make racist remarks far worse than anything ferry said.
Both of those guys are prominently featured on NBA shows. If you don't know what I'm referring to, it's Shaq's message to yao ming, something like "Ching Ching ya ya ying".

Breaking news! Elton Brand does business deal with known racists!

People gotta stop with the "is it racist or not" discussion. It's not even about that anymore. It's about the aftermath in NBA circles.
It is all about the racism aspect though. We should be pretty damn sure that someone is a racist before we take away their livelihood.

Why would anyone read something like that? Are you telling me that our GM proof read this and thought it was worth mentioning or are you telling me that Ferry didn't proof read it and just read it? Either way it's incompetent.
None of us have any idea what the context was, how he said it, or what he may have said directly before or after.
I'm now accusing every writer and reporter who has quoted levenson as being a racist. No excuse to say those words. Ever.

The answer is yes.

Now I'm questioning why Ferry has only brought in hard working lunch pail guys. It could be just coincidence and a good practice, but can we be sure it's not fueled by something else?
Our GM likes to bring in hard working guys. Lets find some deeper meaning in that.

The Sterling era was on Stern's watch so I'm not sure this isn't swept under the rug in 1995.
Probably a non-story in 1995. People weren't so sensitive and eager to make everything into a scandal.
-
The idea that is was read by accident is the sketchiest to me. No way Ferry read every scouting report verbatim. He peeress them and focused on the highlights. Why was this a highlight?
I still don't understand what the quote is precisely supposed to convey. Trustworthiness, character, a disconnect between his reputation and his game, some aspect of his play? I don't know.
This. The quote doesn't make much sense to me.
However, I would file that quote under "insensitive" or even "dumb", rather than "racist". I think people are a little too trigger happy right now.
I still think the worst part about all of this is that Levenson tried to place blame on the fan base rather than their own inability to build a team worth watching.

I'm hoping for Chris Hansen

If Al Horford has his career ended by pectoral surgery he should go in the Guinness World book of records. He would be the first professional athlete in my lifetime this happened to. I watch the major three sports regularly and I can't think of a single instance where a pec injury chronically ended someones career. You guys are acting like he tore an ACL,MCL and an achilles,or perhaps Al is secretly a pitcher coming off multiple Tommy John surgeries.
I know everyone wants to make these crazy leaps/assumptions extrapolating pectoral injuries, but there is no historical precedence to back this. The sample is big and the statistical relevance is set. It's much more likely that these are two random injuries than Al being chronically injured.
Is there a chance Al could be a unique a case? Is this the curious case of Al's buttons? Possibly yes however probably not, history is on our side. Calm down.
It's a fair point, but how many athletes can you name that have torn each pectoral muscle in back to back seasons.
Doesn't seem like a common injury and 2 years in a row should absolutely raise red flags.

I'm OK with it, but we're probably giving up too much. I think it makes us worse in the short term.
Screw you Al Horford, traitor.

Haven't posted here in a while, but I'm finding this Horford situation kind of odd. For as long as I've been a Hawks fan, I can't really remember our team getting any respect because we had Al Horford. I don't remember feeling like teams ever feared him. I definitely never considered him a superstar or anywhere near it, nor do I remember anyone else considering him a superstar.
Now that he leaves us, he is a superstar. Where did that come from? Where are we setting the bar for the word superstar these days? In this NBA, if you want to win a championship, Al has to be your 3rd best player. He's not a game changer, nobody is game planning for Al Horford.
I'm glad we are turning the page on "our most successful decade" or whatever people are calling it. That was incredibly frustrating and sad for a team's most successful decade. Squeaking into the playoffs and getting bounced easily in round 1 or 2.
I'm not a fan of Dwight, but either he turns into the Dwight of old and we are a really good team or he sucks, Millsap leaves, and we rebuild.
We weren't winning anything by building around Al, so might as well try something new.
