I sure hope not.
I'm guessing "Poppy Seed" is Pape Sy. If so, he's not going to be on the team this year. It's been reported that he's staying with Le Havre.
Anyway, snagging Tmac or Stackhouse would be fine with me. They might fill in that "Zo" role that Michael Cunningham was talking about.

Sorry Hawks fans.....I don't want to be the one to deliver the news.
Sherrod Blakely who covers the Celtics said on his Twitter:

:temperature:Temperatures will be high for Hawks fans now. Better start moving faster Mr. Sund.

Josh Childress was also there. Must have been a big big wedding.

Eh, I don't see Dwight Howard going here. Orlando has shown that they are willing to spend money, make trades, sign players, etc. and surround Dwight with the right players. They have been a contending team for two years now(about to be three), and unless they stop doing so....I don't see him leaving there. I would love for Dwight to play here in his hometown, but right now....I'm not getting my hopes up.

I disagree strongly.
Jamal is more than a 6th man. I think we actually wasted him allowing him to win the award. Did it really help our team play to start the games off weak? I hope that when we start play this year, we see Joe at the 3 and Jamal at the 2. I feel that that gives us the best chance to win. I don't care about the confidence of others who don't impact the game, I think it's disrespectful for us to bring him off the bench in his contract year. He's a starter.
I don't think it's disrespectful. I think Jamal Crawford doesn't mind not being a starter and being the first man off the bench. He already implied that he wants to finish his career here in Atlanta. I doubt a player who says that feels disrespected about his role on the team. He has the talent of a starter, don't get me wrong, but I think it's best for the team if he came off the bench.

I had to lay down after I read your post. Tell me you are pulling my leg about Sund's comment about Shaq. Was he really quoted as saying "They will far surpass anything we could've gotten from Shaquille O'Neal. Now . . . let's stop being so negative, and look forward to a 3rd place finish in the Southeast division."?
I think northcyde is trying to say what he thinks Sund's excuse will be when they announce the signing of Jason Collins and not Shaquille O'neal.
-
Right now, I'm in between with this signing. I'm still optimistic about signing Shaq though. I wouldn't mind this re-signing if we sign Shaq and trade Zaza. It would suck for Zaza though, he's becoming a restaurant entrepreneur in Atlanta.

I'll buy the same number of tix anyway, I'm no good at holding Hawks seats hostage. I suspect the real net gain for A$G is the casual fan who doesn't know Hawksquawk exists.
Now how closely I sit to the floor (read: $/game) has more to do with my confidence level in their NBA contention, and signing Shaq (and one more cheapo SF or PG player) makes the need to buy binoculars much less important.

+1 Totally agree. I'll still be buying the same number of tixs, but the higher the talent level of the Hawks....the lower the seats I get. If we get Shaq, I'll definitely buy a lower level ticket than what I usually get for the first home game.
I also think the number of season tickets will increase when we get Shaq. I think casual fans would be more inclined to see a personality like him for 41 games.

I haven't heard any bad stuff about Lorenzen, and I just want to wish his family well.

A body was found in Southeast Memphis, no confirmation if it's Lorenzen's body....

Lang Whitaker's Twitter:
Hawks just announced addition of Kenny Gattison as assistant coach to Larry Drew's staff.
follow him at twitter.com/langwhitaker
Kenny Gattison's coaching career (Wikipedia):
After retiring, Gattison served as an assistant coach on John Calipari's staff with the NBA New Jersey Nets from 1996–98. He then returned to his alma mater, Old Dominion in 2001 as an assistant coach until 2003 when he was named assistant coach with his former team, the New Orleans (former Charlotte) Hornets. He remained with New Orleans until June 2009.
Slow Hawks day huh?

Al has been overrated by Hawks fans. Al is not better than Josh. I don't care if he went to the All Star Game before Josh did. What most people don't know is Josh Smith is darn near unstoppable with the the pick n roll (Ranked 5th in the league thanks to Synergy). Woody was just dumb to to the fact of using him much that way. And I disagree with Horf being elite and Smoove just being a "star" with CP3.
Horf with Chris Paul IMO is: 18 points, 11 rebounds, and a block at MAX
Josh Smith with Chris Paul is: 20 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 blocks, and 2 steals at MAX. How is that not "Elite"?
How does Josh Smith's assist numbers go up when you add one of the top assists player in the league?
I agree with you though. I see Josh Smith improving more with Chris Paul than I see Al improving with Chris Paul. I think the leadership ability of Chris Paul can make Josh Smith a more mature and efficient player.

I think that we are looking at this only from a FAN'S stand point and not a gm with a lot on the line. I think that if Al was on any other team in the NBA (especially a team in the west) he would be playing at his natural position of PF. So while we formulate trade scenerios with an Al for Okafor trade, I doubt the Hornets brass would be enthusiastic about playing another undersized center in the WC. So the real problem with any trade scenerio that has been mentioned on this board envolving CP3 over the past few weeks is not weither to give up Al or Josh... but the fact that the Hornets have David West on their roster occupying the PF spot in which Josh/Al are most effective playing at.
Ive said the same thing before . The Hornets have a ALL STAR PF on there roster in West and we keep talking about packages in which the key piece is a POWER FORWARD. We just dont have the pieces .
I've said the same thing before....they're not limited to one move. They take the best talent offered and make other moves accordingly. They don't have to keep Horford/Smith/or David West, they can package them to another team for a player that would fit on their team. You shouldn't take a less talented player just because they fit a positional need when you're being offered better players...especially when you're trading a superstar player.

Do you have a white authentic Horford jersey? Also, I saw the Jamal Crawford Authentic red jersey on sale, but the only available size I could select was 56. Do you have a size 52?

To answer the poll, I'm unsure about Teague starting. He looked solid for the most part in Summer League, but I still question if he can go from a player who saw very limited minutes last season to a player that receives starter minutes. That's a big jump. I would actually like to see Bibby (if he's still w/ us when the season begins..) start at the beginning of the season and gradually increase Teague's minutes and eventually make him a starter if he proves worthy.
I've said this before, I would rather keep Jamal Crawford at the bench and keep Joe Johnson at his natural position at the 2. Joe's size and strength compared to other shooting guards is a big reason why he's so effective. Move Joe to the SF position and he loses that advantage he had.

I accidentally negged your post while browsing on my phone. My bad....
LOL dang dude. I +'ed it so it's back to neutral. :)

So was Powell a bluff to get Shaq to sign?
I wouldn't think so. We still needed a backup Power Forward, and I think Powell will be that. If we get Shaq...Smoove, Horford, and Powell will be sharing minutes at that position.
-
I would rather not see the Hawks waste another roster spot with one of them, in my opinion.
-
As I've said before, Shaq is the difference between a horrible off-season to a good one. As for Shaq drawing no interest, I'm fine with it. I'm pretty sure he would draw a lot more interest if he wanted to play for a lottery team, but he doesn't. He wants to play for a winning team...and all those winning teams either have no cap space or have no space for him.
-
Our hopes rest on a new coach and the hope that he can get more out of the same guys than 'woody
I'm pretty sure that he will get more. How much more is the question....but I seriously doubt it's three rounds more. I'm not even sure if it's two playoff rounds more.
-
It was clear Al was better at the PF position and was more effective. He was a better player when Zaza was at the Center spot and Al was in the PF spot. Switch Zaza with Shaq, Horford becomes even better at the PF position. Shaq is the difference between the most horrible off-season in years to one of the best off-season in years for the Hawks.

goodness this thread has been up for like 2 weeks it seems and still no word?
we cant even sign josh powell? ridiculous.
What world do you live in?
It's only been 4 days, and he's supposed to be signing Monday(tomorrow).

Marvin I think can be a Corey Maggette type of player who can get to the Free throw line at will. Like nbasuperstar said, it's a mental thing for Marvin. Whenever you see Marvin aggressive during the whole course of the game, he's a pretty good player. He just needs to do it in a daily and consistent basis.
Sund should be pushing for T-Mac right about now

Where did you hear about his attitude being a problem in the workouts? The only thing I read on why Bulls passed on him is b/c they're looking for more shooters. Also, he seems a lot more mature than Allen Iverson by the quotes I've read of him this off-season. I read somewhere that he has no problem coming off the bench.
I'm with Gametime on this one, I would love it if T-Mac signs for the vet min. to play for us. I think it will definitely develop competition on who starts between T-Mac and Marvin. Imagine a Bibby (or Crawford), Joe Johnson, McGrady, Smith, and Horford lineup.....that's one good passing team especially in an offense that supposedly going to revolved around sharing the ball.
