  1. As everyone else has said, we'd be a pretty good defensive team just by simply having DMC, Thabo, and Deng. If we can't get an elite scorer like LeBron or Melo or other then we could at least neutralize them to an extent with defense. Quality defense means that our offense isn't going to have to be explosive all of the time.

I like Dolf's idea about Noah lol. Highly doubt the Bulls have any interest whatsoever in moving him but man if we could pair him up with his buddy Al then woohoo! Lol.

  2. My wish list in no order:

Greg Monroe-Just turned 24 and is an offensive beast in the paint. Would be awesome to see what Bud could do with him.

Jordan Hill-Good consolation prize to be a rotational big man if we miss out on Monroe. Also cheaper than Monroe.

Lance Stephenson-Not even 24 yet and is an offensive machine.

Prob some others that I can't even think of right now cause it's late. We've got 3 point shooting and our wing defense is getting better with the addition of Sefolosha (plus we have Carroll). I think we need another big who can be a legit threat down low next to Horford (Monroe) or a skilled SG or SF player like Stephenson (SG) who can shoot, slash, and create his own shot to help Teague. Though I don't know that Ferry will go for another wing right now.

    We'll see.

  3. From a basketball standpoint, of course I want Lance! Heck of a talented player who can shoot, slash, create his own shot, and is also a good passer. He's still young (turns 24 in early September) and would instantly be our starting SG.

Would he be able to focus on just playing the game and not flirting with the opponent's best player though? Maybe, maybe not. He's still young though and if Ferry/Bud feel like they can get the best out of him then why not.

I'd take the gamble on Lance.

  4. I'm on the Monroe train. He may need some work on defense (like other players in the NBA) but his offensive game is scary. He absolutely dominates inside the paint. Has a great post-up game and spin move that he uses to attack the rim with intensity. Another thing I noticed when watching him is that whenever he receives the ball inside the paint there is pretty much always two guys drawing in on him and usually a third guy as well, yet he still scores. Having 2-3 defenders draw in on Monroe in the paint means some wide open Hawks shooters! The other thing is that Monroe also hasn't really played under the greatest of coaching staffs; imagine the type of player he could become under our staff. Play him next to Horford and BAM the Hawks can beat a team from behind the arc or from close range.

  5. It's expected, unfortunately. The chances of Melo or LeBron becoming Hawks is extremely unlikey, not impossible, but against the odds that we prefer. Would absolutely go nuts if we landed a superstar but realistically it's not happening. CP3 and Howard last year and now Melo/LeBron this year.

With that said; because we will most likely not land a superstar via free agency, I trust Bud and Ferry that they have a long term plan to build a contending team for not just a few years but for a long long long time.

  6. The problems.

Teague does what Bud wants done well. Dennis could be a throwback old school pure PG, but that's not what Bud wants. Don't be surprised if we trade Dennis for a higher pick and we pick up Patty Mills in FAcy. Teague and Mills represents what Bud wants. Speed that kills, shooting, and getting to the rim.

Dennis would fit better on a team like Sactown where he can run PNR with Cous all day.

True. Dennis was my original thought as to which of the two is more likely to be traded. You bring up good points.

  7. EXCITING!!! Would it be crazy if we got rid of both Teague and Schröder and picked up Smart, Ennis, Napier, Payton etc. Wow...or moved all the way up for Exum. This is my favorite week of the year. Sadly has been for a long time due to being a Hawks fan. :-( :-)

    Ya never know!

I've felt that one of Teague or Schröeder will be moved and I used to think it'd most likely be Schröeder. Now I'm starting to think that it could be Teague.

-Teague just turned 26 earlier this month and Schröeder turns 21 in September. Schröeder is more of the "in the long run" player because he is 5 years younger than Teague.

-Teague was almost not even re-signed by the Hawks last off-season and maybe that's because Bud/Ferry didn't think Teague was his PG "of the future" but didn't want to lose him in free agency.

-On the contrary to Teague almost not being re-signed, Schröeder was drafted by the Ferry/Bud Hawks.

-Teague is a leftover of the Woodson/Sund Hawks whereas Schröeder is a Bud/Ferry Hawks draft pick.

-No more Joe after the 2012 off-season, no more Smoove after the 2013 off-season, is Teague next?

Definitely wouldn't be surprised to see Teague moved anytime soon. Seems like Ferry/Bud do have a vision for the Hawks and are here for the long haul. Moving Teague for another pick(s) to get more Ferry/Bud Hawks seems ideal.

Who knows? Maybe we see another key player, not just Teague, moved for more draft ammunition. We'd be getting a lot younger and less experienced but the start of a 'dynasty' in Atlanta could be taking place before our eyes.

"Big things have small beginnings," so even if we do take a step back next year by getting younger then that's fine with me as long as it means we're building a team to compete for the next decade.

Just pure speculation at this point!

  8. I doubt that the Kings would take Dennis for the #8 pick straight up but then again I don't work in the Kings front office so I wouldn't know. However if the Kings would take Dennis straight up for the #8 pick then I think DF definitely has to consider. I like Schröeder and think he can be a great player in the NBA in a few years but if trading him meant getting another future star at a different position, since Teague is our PG, then I would be all for trading Schröder straight up for the #8. The question would then be who do we take at #8 and then at #15?

  9. Hey guys longtime Hawk fan, frequent reader, but rarely ever post dude right here!

That game tonight was absolute BS!!!!!!!!!! The refs were beyond ridiculous. Terrible calls on Sap. Ghost calls all over. DMC DID NOT touch Ray Allen! I rewinded DVR and watched it slowly and paused the game and could tell that not even a finger touched Allen.

I ranted about it on Facebook and a guy I know commented "Completely right. I watched that with a Heat fan and even he agreed."

Refs completely gift wrapped this for the Heat, absolute trash.

    Go Hawks!

  10. I'm pretty sure that Ferry has one great big master plan and this offseason is only part 1. As said, we really do need a big man. Whether its Dwight or not, we need a center and we need to be able to keep Horford and Josh.My dream plan would be to sign Dwight and CP3 next offseason. CP3-Jenkins-Smoove-Horford-DwightTeague, Lou, Korver, Zaza, Morrow coming off the bench. Maybe Harris if he's still here.

  11. Joe will forever be one of my 5 all-time favorite Hawks. He wanted to come to Atlanta whenever the Hawks were still a joke for the previous decade. He revived this franchise and city. I cannot thank him enough. In person, seeing him hit the 3 in the Hawks-Celtics Game 6 in 2008 as we won 103-100 was unbelievable. Its bittersweet but I'm happy because within a year Atlanta really may be one of the hottest teams in the league, Hotlanta.I wish Joe the very best in Brooklyn, my hat goes off to him!

  12. Hey ya'll long time Hawks and Atlanta sports fan here who's suffered through the horrendous years of Theo Ratliff, Jason Terry, Shareef, Alan Henderson, Dan Dickau, Dion Glover, Antoine Walker, freakin Bob Sura, Al Harrington, and the list goes on. I've been reading HawkSquawk for a while now and decided to make an account on draft day. Finally here's my first post...Re-sign Josh and just play the season. If we suck this year then that's alright, it won't before long. Get a decent draft pick and then sign CP3 and Dwight in next year's offseason. You're not giving up Al or Teague, just money.CP3JenkinsJoshAlD12Perhaps possibly also a good drafted prospect in the 2013 Draft.
