I think because Cuban has kinda made the Mavs the unofficial Euro allstar franchise, it hurts free agency with most players. You gotta think, these American players have known each other since they were young now With all these camps, aau, and social media. Big time players team up with their friends.

We only traded 2 of our own picks for Murray and we got another teams pick for Huerter. We could still trade the nets our 2023, 2024, and 2029 pick with pick swaps in 2026 and 2028. And we kept all our players that weren’t getting waived. I don’t see how the Murray trade made anything a “practical impossibility”

If KD goes to Miami or Toronto I wonder what Ayton’s price tag will be. He could be gettable at a price the hawks are comfortable with this late in FA

I really hope two minimum guys won’t be the end of our offseason. I assumed giving 3 firsts for Murray was going all in but following it up with nothing else is a half measure I’m not a fan of.

It's clear teams see Simmons at a much higher tier than a JC package.
Seems like a JC package isn’t very valuable to anyone. So what avenue do the hawks have to get better now other than cleaning out the whole roster besides the two allstars?

They are getting close on a Kyrie trade. They want an unprotected 1st and they don't want to take on future money but the Lakers don't either but likely will.
KD deal I am told isn't far either.
But Simmons is off the table. Atlanta was leading for Simmons. I was told they want a stronger package then what was offered. I bet Atlanta makes another run for him in January.
Seems like if you try to trade for someone for over a year while he’s on multiple teams you should probably just give what it takes

Reports are that the Nets aren't willing to trade Simmons so if that happens, we are likely looking at the Hawks with the idea that they make no major moves. Maybe signing Kaba and Martin

Where is the notion that Trae wants to play with Simmons coming from

Makes no sense to change a guy to a position he has never played just because there is no other way he fits with the team and even un that position he does not fit. We make trades to be better not to play players out of position.
He has played center some though. That triple double he got when he eliminated the wizards before they played us he was their center. He had also played center against the nets for 10 minutes and has 17 points in that stretch. I’m sure there’s more examples but that’s what I found with a quick google search

Ben Simmons just deleted his Instagram and last night there was a report that the Nets could move him so facilitate a 3 way trade sending Donovan Mitchell to Brooklyn. Something is up

I'm one of the biggest Simmons fans here and hope we trade for him, but he isn't a center. He can play small ball center, but he doesn't have the wingspan, length, and strength to be a regular rim protecting 5 full time. And he can't really technically be what is considered a small ball 5 either since he has no outside shot to draw the opposing center to the 3 pt line.
But he can defend 1-4 exceptionally well; perhaps better than anyone else in the NBA. His best position is as a point-forward.
I do think he could play center in the same way Draymond does. In fact I think of just accepted that type of role he’d be the ideal player for us to get so I’m hoping we are able to get him cheap if he needs to dumped to facilitate a KD trade.
I hate the fit with him and Capela starting, but if we could get a guy like Myles Turner instead that’d be ideal. Even if we couldn’t I want Ben. Just thinking about every possession being run through either Trae, Murray, or Simmons has me salivating. And I think your closing lineup could be Trae, Murray, Bogi, Hunter, Simmons. That’s some killer Warriors dynasty stuff right there

Haliburton by a sizable margin

Just the NBA champs 2016, wasn’t sure if it was Warriors or Cavs or hoping Hawks way back when.
Lol yeah. Idk why I thought it was hawks 2016 champs. I honestly thought this website shut down years ago and just came back

Send some good vibes wretch. We need everyone on board.
Are you a Warriors fan?
Of course not. But Hunter doesn’t really have much of an offensive or defensive game rn. I think he can get there on defense but he hasn’t shown he can do anything besides take open shots. I know he didn’t get to put the ball on the court much in college but he said he was excited to get the opportunity in the NBA, but all he does effectively is shoot open jumpers.
Kevin Huerter is a bad defender, an okay enough secondary ball handler, and a pretty decent shooter. He isn’t elite like people act. He was 61st in the league in 3 point percentage. I think a lot of that is he’s timid as hell. But as of now he hasn’t shown me enough to think he’s part of the future other than a trade piece

I’ve seen way too much talk about Anthony Edward’s fit and that we already have guys there. Y’all are crazy. Huerter is absolutely not the answer at the 2, and Hunter was bad bad bad as a rookie. The hawks weren’t bad as an accident. Trae, Cam, and John should be the only 3 players taken into account at all when making roster decisions. And really when it comes down to it Trae is the only guy that’s untouchable. Period.

Let's say Hawks are picking 5th and Edwards, Ball, Wiseman and Toppin are off the board. Who do you take?
Haliburton. He can do pretty much everything skill wise at an above average level. He’s just way too skinny. If he gains weight you could have a 2 way combo guard that fits perfectly next to trae and can run the offense when he’s on the bench.
I am also warming up to Okoro too. He’s a project but everyone who has interacted with him say he’s the hardest worker they know. He could be a nice ++ defender and secondary creator with the starting unit. If he learns how to shoot you could have a real star on your hands

Who do we think is the next disgruntled guy? Anybody getting low-ball'd like Harden did by OKC? Anybody side-eye'n their co-worker 'cause he's getting more shine? A little teammate-on-teammate friction. (No, not that kind of friction, @Spud2nique.)
What I'm getting at is .. who's the next guy that might shake loose that the Hawks can nab?
I know pre-bubble, we pretty much surmised there wasn't really anyone out there. Now, I can see Embiid or Simmons being semi-available. I can see SAC letting Hield or Bog go. I can see ThIngram being open to look elsewhere. I can see LOladipo moving. If Davis had a spine (which he doesn't), I could see him leaving LAL.
Your thoughts?
Donovam Mitchell seems unhappy and is good friends with Trae.
There’s definitely smoke with the sixers trading Simmons or Emiid and I’m definitely throwing an offer to Philly for Ben. If the cavs think they can get him, we definitely could. I think I’d offer Huerter, John, and a first as long as it isn’t top 2.
Beal is as good as gone but they will want to see him play with John Wall again first I’m sure.
Derozan could be had and he’d definitely make the hawks a lot more respectable.

I read that the Clippers want him. If they get him they would have managed to have gotten the worst logo/uniform in the league and sign my three lest favorite players: Lance, Paul Pierce, and Josh Smith. They should just go ahead and get Delly too make them as hatable as can be.

Well I'm sure the majority of Hawks fans can see we improved. We swapped Demarre, Pero, and our first for Paul, Tiago, and THJ. I mean to me that's a solid improvement. Allstar power forward for a solid 3 and D effort guy that isn't worth the money he got at all. A real center who is younger than Pero for a guy who was being phased out for Moose anyway. And a high ceiling guy who should contribute solid scoring for a draft pick that is basically a wildcard who would almost certainly not see much time in the next few years. Yep sounds better to me. Teague, Korver, Millsap, Al, and Dennis keep the same roles while Thabo steps up to starting role while Bazemore and THJ provide good wing depth. Tiago takes Peros minutes and, at least to me, we look much better on paper than we did last year
-
It's really Demarre, Pero, and Jenkins for Paul, Tiago, and THJ. If we kept Demarre there would be no chance at keeping Paul. I don't see how this could possibly be looked at as a worse team from last year. The rest of the east might be better and make it tougher to do what we did last year, but we still improved

The offer was before the Gobert trade. It was reported that they turned down an offer from Brooklyn first immediately after they did the Gobert deal
