My biggest concern at this point for this team is physicality. I feel like we’re missing the presence and toughness that Miami and Boston showed. Is that just because of how Miami manhandled us in the playoffs? Or is it something this team needs to address in terms of personnel. I just wish Hunter was a better rebounder and had some dog in him.

A good defender at the 2 can offset the need for elite defense at the 4/5.
For instance, Trae, Delon, Dre, JC, Ayton is 4 good to great defenders next to Trae. OO is the first big off the bench. Whichever wing we keep between Kev and Bogi goes in for Trae and Delon moves to PG. That is a solid defensive unit
Heck, we had Clint and still struggled defensively. It wasn't because the Center was weak, it was because the guards were. Were we not a better defense when Kev was locked in last season?
Upgrade perimeter defense and the entire profile of the team rises.
I would be just fine if we added Ayton for Capela and assets and added a bucket getter off the bench.
I'm fine with losing Bogi, Kev, Gallo, or #16.
I definitely agree here. If you get an offensive center like Ayton, you attempt to use your best trade piece in JC to upgrade perimeter defense and shooting. Is that player out there? Will JC be the asset coveted? JJ, OO, and Ayton would be a nice front court if you can upgrade another weakness.

It needed to be a joint decision one way or the other and it wasn't a joint decision. So as far as I know the status quo remains the same.
I’m glad! I’ve been on this forum in some form/username since 2005 and have under 100 posts total lol

Trae not shooting well doesn't bother me at all. He can shoot. That will come around. He's getting to good spots and getting open. He's distributing well.
I'm more concerned with his complete lack of athleticism and length once he gets into the lane. No burst or separation and inability to score near the rim. He got swatted and deflected so many times, even on fast breaks. This lack of length and athleticism will likely prevent him from being the complete player he needs to be once defenses gameplan to take away his strengths.

I wanted Divincenzo and Walker ahead of Huerter

It doesn't work that way when you're looking for 'the guy'. If Doncic is the alpha we need, it don't matter how many betas we draft at 5, 6, 10 or wherever we end up.
This. I hope our GM understands that.

Yeah, saving info for some kind of podcast that no one listens to is lame.

It's really scary that Bamba is being mentioned as a top 3 pick. His measurables area great, but just watching him play I'm not seeing being that kind of impact player down the road. In today's NBA, using a top 5 pick for a potential rim protector with very limited offense is questionable.
Bagley or Doncic has gotta be the pick. Offensive upside is the way to go and these guys look like difference makers. Porter or Young would also be better picks than JJJ or Bamba as well, imo.

His defense is what bugged me the most. He killed us on pick n rolls.
-
Yeah, no thanks on THjr as a starter. His defense stinks and he was exposed against Washington. Too streaky on offense. He's a backup.

Let Sap walk, draft Bam Adebayo to eventually replace D8, Ersan at the stretch 4, desperately hope that a 3 and D shooting guard can be coaxed into coming to ATL. That's about the best we can do for the upcoming season in my mind.
-
There is a lot of talent in the draft this year. Bam Adebayo, Harry Giles, and Semi Ojeleye should give us some good options at 19 and 31.
-
Yes, he grabbed plenty of rebounds when he was basically alone under the goal. However, I saw him get out worked and lose out on too many contested rebounds. It cost the Hawks' defense, giving the Wizard too many 2nd chance opportunities. He needs go be physical and an enforcer for this team. I was wondering if he was injured because he looked so out of it. D8 was a non factor.

I'm with you but i'll take the challenge. We have a very good PG and an exceptional front court. Those are usually the harder spots. If we just had wings that could shoot the 3 then we'd be much improved. If we actually had a true scorer then we could make some noise.
But the total offensive black hole that is our 2/3 is killing us.
We're forcing Paul into being a lead man and he hasn't had the luxury of letting the game come to him. The ball seems to stick in his hands lately too as he has to try to create something out of nothing. Just don't know where the fluidity of offense has gone. The ball doesn't move like it should. And the perimeter defense.....geeeeeeez!

I'm pretty down on the Hawks right now. And the worst things is, I don't know a remedy for change anytime soon. It's just not a team that's fun to watch and they are not a team on the upswing as far as talent. We could blow up this entire roster...all 15 spots.....and I wouldn't blink. I don't feel any glowing optimism about anyone we currently have.

Definitely Shaqtin a fool in this game. How many times did he drive 100 mph into the lane, with no where to go, and leap with no clear objective? Baze......dude.....you are a spot up shooter. Nothing more. Stop dribbling.

Stats aside, It is quite obvious that D8 isn't providing the same energy defensively and rebounding that he was at times early in the season.
Offensively, it still comes down to not having enough shooters. We have wings who are bench players at best being pressed into doing more than they should be asked to do.

When Porter and Morris play like they have this season, they are a handful. Porter is hitting the 3 at over 45% on the season.
Wall averaging 25/10 over past 5 games.
I'm not completely sold that they can keep it up either, but Friday night's game will give us a good idea of how much of a challenger they could be down the stretch.
-
Watch out for those Wizards. They are starting to hit their stride and looking pretty dangerous. Not much of a bench but their starting 5 is solid.

For next season, upgrading Moose, Baze, Bu PG , and the maturation of Bembry/Prince would fit nicely if we are able to resign Sap reasonably.

Whu?
Miles Linnid (as Nique calls him) is an awful basketball player. Awful. Don't tell your wife I said that, but it's true. Crabbe is only slightly better than Skip and he's on a worse deal.
Crabbe is a legit shooter. Baze < 30% from 3....Crabbe > 43% from 3
As a matter of fact, Crabbe has been shooting at over 50% clip from 3 since December began.

I've always liked Myers Leonard. My wife is a University of Illinois grad so we watch a lot of their games. He has range and size. He used to have a good post up in college as well. I'd def consider Crabbe and Leonard and a first from them. Crabbe is a good wing player, the Nets tried to RFA this past offseason.
But he would be a backup C? Leonard would not be on the court the same time as D8. We need a serviceable stretch 4 to play with Howard.
-
I really like Allen Crabbe (44% from 3) but what else would Portland have to offer that would interest the Hawks? Aminu? His offense is putrid. How does a PF shoot 35%??

My question is what is Sap's cap hold this year and what will it be next year considering the different amounts he could sign for. That, is the correct question.
Ayton, Capela, or Gobert

I’m sure he’s a great addition. But really, just he and Capela in the starting unit are defensive minded. And who other than Capela has a physical presence?
