My guess out of the three options I listed before:

We choose option #2. We keep Trae, we draft Sarr #1 and we move Murray to NO for BI.

    Team outlook:

    Trae/Kobe

    Bogi/Kobe

    BI/Hunter

Jalen/Sarr/Gueye (sorry if I spelled it wrong)

    OO/Sarr

In that scenario I can see the coaches at least trying a frontcourt of:

    Sarr

    Jalen

    OO

And based on matchups is where one player is listed at a position. Coaches usually consider your position what you guard so Jalen and Sarr would rotate on the wing while OO mans the center. It would gives us crazy length and switch ability on defense. Offense...it would be a problem but if Sarr can continue to develop his jumper like I think he can that could be a killer frontcourt combination...regardless of Ingram or Hunter.

If that front court worked could see them trying to put BI at the 2 and the length would be bonkers.

I agree and think we could compete with that lineup. I wonder if Trae would view a move to get BI as a sign that we’re serious about competing.

I’d be so sad to see Jalen leave. But if we can win a championship in the next 2-3 years it could be worth it.

but we’d still need to fill out the roster with shooters. I wish there was a way we could get Marcus smart somehow.

Interesting, this is the confirmation I've been looking for.  The smoke was too much.  And that package for who I can only assume is Giannis, is way too rich imo.  I'd rather do a soft re-tooling and trade Trae to the Spurs than go all-in on Trae/Giannis, giving up our most promising young player in the mix, and mortgaging our future.

I tend to agree. I have mixed feelings about all of this.

also, I’d be curious to know how Trae is defining “contender”. We’d definitely be competitive if we keep #1 pick and trade Murray for another star or to round out the roster. But I don’t know if he would agree.

secondly,  if Trae is asking to be traded (because we can’t get said superstar) then  he needs to go to the team offering the best deal. I appreciate everything Trae has done but there’s no way I’d send him to the spurs just because that’s his preference. Absolutely not.

if the spurs have the most compelling offer - then sure. But ideally we should get a star in return for Trae and we should do our due diligence if we’re going to let him go.

  4. The only person that trade makes sense for is Giannis and that is a lot even for him.

They would need a strong plan to fill out the rest of roster. IF the star is Giannis and Trae is asking for him then I have to think that he’s  already had conversations with Giannis about this.

Sounds like the dust could settle on this shortly before the draft 😬

For what it's worth, I will be wholly disappointed if we trade Trae to the Spurs for picks back.  That signals we don't intend to win, and might even tactically tank next season.  I would be less disappointed, depending on the haul, if we trade him elsewhere for talent+picks.  I don't want our picks back, because I want us to be trying our hardest to win the next 3 seasons, which drives positive development.  So the only scenario I'll be content with trading Trae, would be to a team like New Orleans (Herb/Murphy) or somewhere like Brooklyn (Bridges/Claxton), where we get back a lot of player talent instead of a picks focused trade.  The idea wouldn't be for DJ to be better than Trae, just that the sum of the parts is better than today's sum of the parts, with more upside in the future.

Yeah. Trading Trae is one thing.. but trading him to the spurs would be a monumental failure. They have no one I’d want.. We should only trade Trae if he asks out. And if that happens, the spurs would be the team Landry should talk to. We have to do what’s best for the team at that point.  If he is traded (and I hope he is not) it better be for a star to pair with Murray otherwise Landry needs to be fired.

I think based on readings is to trade Trae maybe and keep Murray.    Will see.    We’d be dumb to trade both.    Murray is about on as good of a deal as there is.     Plus, Quinn ain’t here to rebuild.

I agree. Can’t trade both. This is all really interesting. I don’t think we should trade Trae but at this point, I do think there is a real chance it happens. If that proves true, I hope we at least keep Murray and get another star back for pair with Murray and keep #1 pick.

This is the Hawks problem.  We're betting on guys who aren't either rapidly developing, or can't stay on the floor.  And he still hasn't taken Capela's spot.

There is NO WAY IN HELL that Oneyka Okongwu should stop any sort of deal that could possibly improve this roster.

Let me repeat that with bigger font, and in red.

There is NO WAY IN HELL that Oneyka Okongwu should stop any sort of deal that could possibly improve this roster.

If he can't even take Capela's spot, it means that he may not be as good as people think he is.  The coach obviously doesn't think he's good enough to start.  So what is the Hawks organization coveting?

I mean, what are we doing as an organization, if we're coveting marginal players to the point where we're afraid to "lose a deal", so we don't get an established player?

What will be easier?  Finding an all-star/borderline All-Star on the front line?   Or replacing a backup center?

100 percent agree. Sounds like we’re coveting some low spades which gives us nothing in the grand scheme of things. And they certainly don’t keep our star player happy.

I like big O but we have to move him and anyone else if it means giving Trae a true star who can help us make a run.

1000%.  Swapping Murray for Ingram doesn't improve this team at all.  And IMO there is no way NO includes Herb Jones in the deal.  I hope I'm wrong but the whole world is watching what Minnesota is doing and will want long, defensive wings.

I think it's just our FO having conversations simply because he is available and he is long.  But he doesn't play defense.  That won't work beside Trae.  I get it, we can't stand pat but I just don't like Ingram as the sole prize.

Murray is an excellent asset with his production + contract situation.  We don't need to rush it.  I would still be open to trading Trae and keeping Murray too depending on the offer.  I know that will create issues too but we need to feel out the market.  This offseason and after playoff exits, teams will be looking to make moves.

I agree with this. And I believe Trae is the best player on the team but I do think we should see what’s out there. Murray isn’t a superstar but could we get one by trading Trae for someone who could pair well with Murray? I’m not saying it’s out there but we’d have to at least look into it.

  9. I agree. I still want Trae to be our superstar. But i am very concerned if we can make changes fast enough before he asks out of Atlanta. It’s the sad but unfortunately reality imo. Who could we actually get that would make us serious contenders given the pieces we have now? We’d have to give up DJ + more to bring in a front court player who can actually move the needle. And we’d still need more than just one player.

It would also have to be convincing enough for Trae to want to recommit to Atlanta. Otherwise, we risk losing him in FA in the near future.

we should have built around Trae the right way years ago but we didn’t and now we’re stuck and desperate to make it work this off-season and all the teams will know it and won’t do us any favors in the trade market.

I wouldn’t be shocked if they considered trading Trae in the off-season and seeing what they can do with DJ and Kobe. We’d get more for Trae than anyone else at this point. This all makes me sad.

  10. Is there any other big we could reasonably this off-season? I just don’t see minny letting go of KAT. They are doing and playing great right now.

the more I think on this.. logic tells me we may be losing Trae next off-season or at the deadline. I’d hate it but can’t plane the guy to be honest.

if this happened, what would that mean for Murray? Would we keep him or would he even want to stay? I know I’m going far down a rabbit hole at this point lol

  11. What do we really lose by holding on to DJ and waiting until the off season? It doesn’t sound like we would bring in a difference maker significant enough to make a strong playoff push. Unless the person we bring in can help us get to too 6 seed - I’m leaning towards waiting until the off-season to see who else becomes available.

Great win, also love DJ, but we still need to move him if we can get good value back.  He's not bought in at all -- sold out a ton of possessions that game... might need to wait until the offseason though.

I agree as long as we get a true superstar back. If we can’t do that, we should keep him. I saw DJ give up on a few plays tonight but I still don’t believe we win this game without him tonight.

    Referendum time?

Perhaps 😂. All that said, I think I’d still prefer him to start over Capela. I wouldn’t be shocked if his performance is reflective of a feeling he has of not starting. Has he given up on that prospect? Not saying it should be this way but how are players suppose to be motivated when bad play is constantly rewarded? That would be tough for anyone (again not making excuses)

Capela should be benched at this point - imo at least.

Bey should be benched. But Quinn says tells him to keep shooting 🙃

we haven’t seen AJ at all for whatever reason. Forrest is OK but Kobe is balling out in the g league but he’s no where to be found. If we really wanted to complete you’d think we’d be putting our best talent on the floor and coaching them up. Instead it’s just… predictable and rewarding the same minimal effort play and bad performance. Oh and to top it off, we’re trading DJ who has been our most consistent player. so how do we reward great play? We trade them for peanuts.

it’s insane. I think I need to take a break from watching the next couple of games. Each time I talk myself through what I see - it gets even more ridiculous.
