Since it's probably a non-starter to have both Dennis and Young on the roster (at least for very long), what are the realistic options for where Dennis might go?
For that matter ... can anyone explain to me how serious the assault charges are? I've not seen recent news on it, only stuff from a few months ago. If it's career-ending stuff, drafting a future PG will end up looking pretty good.

On the plus side, Trae Young looked so dapper in those shorts. He is all dressed up for his Easter picnic so nice and making Mom so proud!

Actually, you currently have $20 million in cap room (without holds) and this is your current depth chart.
Dennis/Young/Dorsey
Baze/Bembry/Huerter
Prince
Collins/Muscala/Spellman
Dedmon/Plumlee
You also have Taylor/Morris on non-guaranteeds.
I hope Cap Room has good perimeter defense.

Remember that Young was the target all along and trading down to 5 saved over $1 million / year off the cap. Looking at The $40 ish million Dallas has available in free agency, I could see them being late lottery next year.
Hey, we could get lucky and get the 6th pick from DAL next year, which, to us, can be traded for the 8th pick, to be used on a guy who would be available at 15 or so.

Just now, Dragitoff said:
I'm pretty sure his prediction about Doncic was just a recap of when the Hawks drafted Gasol and traded him to the Grizz.
Well, whoever the Hawks take at 3 sort of exists in a paradox: he'll be a star if the Hawks trade him, and a journeyman if the Hawks keep him. It's one of the few immutable laws of the universe.

My official Hawks draft predictions:
1) I will eat one corn dog per day until the draft. I live real close to a Cookout, so there's really no excuse.
2) The Hawks will draft Doncic with the third pick, and Doncic will become the star that Chad Ford dreamed Darko would be.
3) Somewhere around pick 5, we'll hear Adam Silver say "There has been a trade," and we'll end up with Trae Young, who will be a fun player to watch in the Jamal Crawford vein, and will eventually help take his team to a title as the league's best sixth man. We'll also pick up a 2nd rounder for our trouble.
4) The title-winning team Trae plays a key role on will be the one he leaves the Hawks for, taking potshots at our fans on the way out.
5) Our additional second-rounder will be an international player for whom there exists only grainy, Zapruder-like game footage, and we'll all grow way too emotionally invested in him. He'll have a few surgeries, will get traded for absolutely nothing of consequence, and will never wear a Hawks uniform.

Jumped the gun on thinking how much we would miss Danny Ferry & thinking Bud & company may not be as capable. Great job of addressing needs & keeping the main core intact. We were able to keep all 4 of our all stars and although DeMarre was our heart & hustle on most occassions he's going to get exposed in Toronto on offense if they don't pass the ball like we were. He was great in our system but looks horrible on most occasions when he tries to take the offense in his own hands. Tim Hardaway Jr. will be a major surprise and allows us to excel in a run and gun offense or half court. Our need (bigs) make us more potent with the half court grind it out game as well as rebounds & our other young bigs Mike & Mike can continue to stretch the floor & will be more improved with something to prove. The slight by DeMarre should give the other 4 starters an extra chip on our shoulders and Bazemore now has a true chance to come into his own similar to what DeMarre did after a year in our system. You don't mess with greatness only tweak it and we got rid of all our dead weight (Pero, Brand)!! All of our players are now highly capable of giving us good production on the floor.
I'm actually not convinced that Wes Wilcox isn't just Danny Ferry wearing a fake mustache or something. Has anyone seen them in the same place?
Our moves are those of a team that's been successful and values continuity, grows players, and doesn't give out panic contracts. Loving it.

I see Splitter = Antić. Better inside play.
Um, no.
That's kind of a ridiculous comparison. Antić was pretty much just passable as a deep bench big. Splitter is efficient and has produced as a starter.

He doesn't have range, he is a big body that fits in a system. He doesn't block at alot of shots. He is just simply in the way.
As far as defense goes, I'd glad take 'being in the way' any day :)

Splitter is really good, and for me the only scary thing is injuries. He's an absolute steal at 8M, and will be doubly so next year when the cap explodes.
What I like most about this is that it shows me the Hawks are looking at guys who the advanced metrics favor: those who don't make a lot of mistakes, are efficient, and who are worth more than their contracts. No "YAY POINTS" signings, please.

Dellavedova is history's greatest monster, and those who defend that hobbit should be imprisoned.

And if you're curious, here's Corn Dog #1 for this season, which came during that awful blowout loss to the Lebrons: http://hawksquawk.net/community/topic/400501-official-game-thread-hawks-cavaliers/?p=732304

As usual, these write-ups have me hooked until PER is mentioned, and I think about that bald dingus who made it up.

Those of you who've been around Hawksquawk a while are aware of the karmic powers of these batter-ensconced holy relics. I've been taking one (well, dozens) for the team for a while now, and have reincorporated these into my superstitious sports fan diet.
And the Hawks continue to win.
My blood pressure is up, my gout has been flaring, but it's worth it, so I will soldier on -- without reply, without reasoning why, but to do and die.
You're welcome.

This game is bad, yes, but have no fear.
I just cooked and ate a corndog.

I don't know if we failed on either Deng or Ariza. We don't even know what they were asking from us, if anything, or if we made any offers.
-
To all those folks who think the lack of support among fans is due to something intrinsic to the fans, as opposed to what's being offered: what is that thing? What caused it? Is it something in the water? Is it genetic?
This is the most tedious discussion, and I expect the national media to engage in it. That's what hacks do: pander to the existing huge markets, fail to cover small markets meaningfully. What I don't get is why we -- the supposedly discerning fans of the Atlanta Hawks -- take part in the myopic "Atlanta has bad fans, hurr blurr de durr" meme-warbling. We're better than that. (Right?)
In my estimation, it's much harder to be a fan of a team that doesn't have a huge, passionate fan base. It's tough to sit in a quiet arena, listen to bandwagoners cheer for Kobe while asking each other who so-and-so on the Lakers roster is, and then go read adolescent invective about how bad we are as supporters. In that regard, we are the best fans. There may be only a couple dozen of us, but come to praise us, not to bury us.

I still don't get how in sports, when the product's not selling, you blame the consumer.
Give the crowds a reason to be there, and they will be there.

He's great for 1.25M, arguably a steal. He was an NBA rookie, forced into a starting role, and held his own (til the playoffs.) He missed like crazy, but Hibbert's quasi-legendary 0/0 game didn't exist in a vacuum. Plus, you can't put a price on Eastern Euro intimidation.

Is pre-injury Kaman somehow available? Do we have a TARDIS?

Weren't the Jojo and Marvin banishments, er, trades surprises, too?

Maybe he just means that he's coming to ATL to visit the World of Coke, the Georgia Aquarium, or one of our other fine tourist attractions.
Billy Knight trying to re-create the 2004 Pistons
in Homecourt

Billy Knight was always such an idiot, merely copying other teams and refusing to try something out of the box. He'd never have been creative enough to, say, do what the Mavs did and move up to the third spot in the draft to take a Euro player out of a Spanish basketball league in the hopes that he'd be a star.
