    future Hawks 1st round pick

    Warriors lose
    Klay Thompson
    David Lee
    Harrison Barnes

Why would each team do this trade you might ask???

For the Warriors they get to pair two of the NBA's top 15 players together; Love and Stephen Curry.
They stunted Harrison Barnes growth on the team when they traded for Andre Iguodala last offseason, and in the playoffs Draymond Green was more impactful than Barnes.  With Ben McLemore, the Warriors get a young shooter, who will only be asked to make open threes (Iguodala guards the
best wing player every game).  The future first round pick from the Hawks adds flexibility to build
    around Love and Curry.

The Timberwolves do this mainly because they want to remain competitive without tying up future
cap space.  A trade directly with Golden State is not happening because the Warriors refuse to
take back Kevin Martin.  In Milsap the Wolves get an all-star 4 to replace Kevin Love (How else would they get an all-star 4 that spreads the floor and fits well with Nikola Peković??).  With Barnes they get a talented young 3 with a ton of upside at a major position of need.  Note how both players received are both on very cap friendly deals.

As for the Pistons they get rid of Josh Smith (Detroit throws a parade), and get back shooters to space the floor around Andre Drummond.  What Stan Van Gundy is looking to do, is build a team similar to what he had with the Orlando Magic.  Van Gundy would be absolutely thrilled to have Kyle Korver and his deadly 3 point range to space the floor.  With David Lee's offensive skill set and ability to rebound he’s a much better fit besides Drummond than Smith.

The Kings instantly become a must see NBA league pass team with the addition of Josh Smith.  Even though Smith and DeMarcus Cousins may choke each other out some day, the two could fit rather well together.  Both are good passers and Cousins has the ability to play inside and consistently knock down 15 footers on a nightly basis.  With the addition of Nik Stauskas in the draft Ben McLemore has become expendable on the Kings roster.  This would be the most excitable Kings team since the days of Vlade Divac and Chris Webber.  Just imagine the smile on Vivek Ranadivé's face seeing the King's home games packed every night.

With the addition of Klay Thompson and Greg Monroe, the Hawks would become a legit contender in the east.  Even with the addition of both, it still could leave enough cap room for the Hawks to sign a player like Luol Deng.  The Hawks could sign Deng to a 3 year front loaded deal that pays 13 million this year but worth 10 million annually.  By front loading the deal it leaves room for the eventual contract extension of Klay Thompson.  The Hawks starting lineup would have 4 all-star caliber players and would instantly become one of the league's best offensive teams with coach Mike Budenholzer's system.

  2. Any of you who've checked out his Twitter page will already know this, but for those who haven't, he's an interesting fellow that's for sure. I like him though and can't wait to see how much he's improved between year 1 and year 2.

He was just quoting something from the new Jay-Z album. Its quite funny if you've heard the song.

  3. I agree with the PT time, but I think teague and craw don't play well together. So I would prefer them to not be on the court at the same time.

That was part of my reasoning for saying that Teague should continue to start, because he doesn't play well with Crawford. He always is looking to differ to Crawford and has no impact when both are on the floor.

  4. That whole Royal Ivey thing never made sense to me

Teague can't shoot at all. He really needs to work on that jump shot if he wants to get bigger minutes

No duh, that Teague can't shoot and neither could Tony Parker his first couple of years in the league. The major thing that Teague lacks is confidence and the only way that improves (and everything else improving) is by giving him consistent playing time. As for Royal Ivey, he didn't have near the possible upside as Teague does (I wasn't comparing the two). Hinrich would still play the vast majority of the minutes and finish games at point guard even if Teague starts.

  5. L.D. should continue to start Teague, but give him Royal Ivey type of minutes. That way the Hawks get more from Teague (he plays much better with the starters) and get more from the bench. With Hinrich coming off of the bench, even when Crawford is off (which usually means no bench scoring) the Hawks would still have an impact player off the bench.

It's so refreshing to see Kirk Hinrich guard without help, I've seen a couple of hawks players look in amazement to see a point guard defend without their help. Also I'm soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo glad to see Mo Evans gone, Damien Wilkins gives the Hawks so much more.

  6. How do you know the Cavs would have accepted that trade ?

Of course the Hawks would of had to give up more then Jeff Teague to get Sessions (that why I said "a deal to get Sessions"). Hawks could of given up Mo Evans, Teague, and 1st round pick for Sessions. Such a deal had been mentioned but the Hawks were only offering a 2nd round pick yet the Cavs wanted a first round pick. Instead the Hawks front office decided to keep Teague and trade Bibby and Jordan Crawford.

  7. Decent trade, didn't like giving up Jordan Crawford and 1st round pick tho. The trade definitely improves the team, no more everyone covering for Bibby's horrible defense. Now the Hawks can have Hinrich guard either the 1 or the 2, which can take a ton of pressure off of Joe Johnson (Joe has nooooooooooooooo more excuses with Bibby's no d being gone). This leaves the Hawks with really only one poor defensive player in the main rotation (Jamal Crawford), and it opens up the door to possibly resign Crawford.

One thing this trade tells me is that the Hawks did not want to give up Teague for some reason. They chose this trade instead of giving up Teague in a deal to get Ramon Sessions.

  8. That's what it should really come down to for the Hawks. If the pick is more valuable than trading Jeff Teague shouldn't be a problem. As for the first round pick, the Hawks have gotten absolutely nothing from the last 3 first round picks. No reason for the Hawks to let a 1st round pick (in a weak draft) hold up acquiring a player, such as Devin Harris.

  9. Earlier this year he was at/near top of league in 3pt% but now it's "ridiculous" that he plays bc he is slumping?

Bibby is strictly a one trick pony at this point in his career; if his shot is not hitting then he is good for nothing else. In other words if he's not making open jumpers than he shouldn't be on the court over guys that can make shots (i.e. Jordan Crawford). Its 4 on 5 basketball on both sides of the court when Bibby's shot is off this bad.

  10. Its getting ridiculous to see Bibby trot out there and start when he is giving the Hawks absolutely nothing! Over the last 5 games Bibby is averaging 4 points per game; just ridiculous. You can't tell me that Jordan Crawford couldn't average 4 points with his eyes closed on offense. I don't care if JCraw2 isn't really a point guard, because Bibby isn't one himself. Bibby can barely bring the ball up court, the Hawks have to keep a big in the backcourt just to screen a defender off of Bibby because Bibby is too slow to get around ball pressure by himself. I also know that JCraw2 (or either JCraw) defense is bad, but it can't be worst than Bibby's ole defense.

  11. JJ is a train wreck tonight. He just needs to hit the bench. Ugh

Smith getting clowned by Hickson. so much for that nice first quarter.

It was good to see Larry Drew make the adjustment and finally put Horford on Hickson late in the 4th quarter. That's something Woody would have never done.

We seem to always revert back to one on one in the 4th. Need to stop that

You mean the 3rd quarter, cause that's when Joe went into me, me, me (um iso) time.

  12. There is nothing wrong with the debate of JS vs Al individually and there are many other deals where I would trade JS over Horford, but in a deal that brings Okafor and Paul, losing Horford is the lesser evil.

    W

Josh is far more limited in the post than Al. At the 4, Horford demands a double team (versus many defenders), while no one double teams Josh; plus Al is a superior shooter. During the post season to become a true contender the Hawks must have a legitimate post player, and that's something that Josh is not. Remember the Bucks had Carlos Delfino guarding Josh during the playoffs. Do you think Scott Skiles would of had Delfino guarding Al? Me thinks not.

Comparing Okafor to Horford is laughable, and quite dis-respectful to Al's game. Al has constantly improved year after year while Okafor has regressed year after year. Makes no sense to compare an offensively limited player (Okafor) to an improving all-star (Horford).

The bottom line is, if the Hawks are trying to be a true contender they must keep Horford. Josh's positive with CP3 vs. Horford with CP3, is a more excitable team; however that team is not a contender..

  13. Hornets

    Chris Paul (2 years)

    Emeka Okafor (4 years)

    for

    Hawks

Al Horford (Restricted FA next year)

    Mike Bibby (1 year)

    Jamal Crawford (expirer)

That is the best the Hornets can get IMO. I don't think Jameer would take the backup PG role, Bibby would and his contract is shorter. Horford gives you a young All-Star center and Jamal Crawford gives them one of the best scoring guards (and an expirer) in the league that won 6th man of the year.

    Hornets

    PG Collision/Bibby

    SG Thornton/Crawford

    SF Peja/Posey

    PF West/Songaila

    C Horford/Gray

    Hawks

    PG Paul/Teague

    SG Johnson/Jordan Craw

    SF Williams/Evans

    PF Smith/Powell

    C Okafor/Zaza

Good trade for both teams IMO.

P.S. Hornets are not gonna trade for Smoove when they have an All-Star in David West.

Your trade doesn't work salary cap wise. Hawks would be taking back over 26 million in salary while the Hornets only take back around 21 million. If Okafor is included then Smoove would have to be included also. It's not like David West or Josh Smith can't be moved to a third team.

  14. When we gave this huge contract to Joe Johnson, people on this board said we would still be able to pay the neccesary $$$ to resign Horford next year.

Can someone please explain to me where we will come up with the money to keep Horford around. He is pretty much the most important player for the

Hawks future right now and if he goes we are in big trouble. You know if he goes to free agency there will be many other teams with money to spend trying

to lure him over and if they also tell him he can play PF, Horf is gone......and so am I.

It's really quite simple; Jamal Crawford's 10 million, and Mo Evans 2.5 million comes off the books after the 10-11 season. Even if Horford is offered the max the Hawks will have the money to match.

  15. I'm not one to start a thread about another thread but this has less to do with the marvin/shaq trade and more to do with sund.

Sund chose to resign marvin. We all thought he got marvin at a good price but we're not an nba general manager. I saw that the hawks mau be putting marvin out there to rid themselves of his contract.

Well why do the hawks need to get rid of marvin's contract? Its not as if they just got carmelo anthony which would render marvin excess.

Is it his contract? If its his contract then who is to blame?

Sund had a happy honeymoon with the hawks cleaning up bk's obvious no brainer "duhs.".

If that contract has to go why aren't we holding sund's feet to the fire?

Yeah, its not like Marvin went out and signed an offer sheet from another team. The Hawks straight up gave Marvin an extension unlike Josh Smith and Childress.

  16. THANK YOU

Why cant people seem to get this through their heads. No one else is willing to give Shaq that money but he wants more just to play in ATL??? I personally would cut off all contact with him and see if he changes his mind. Sign another free to send a message.

I agree. It's like some people on here rather pay Shaq 8 million to get rid of Marvin; when the best Shaq can get from another team is the MLE. Then on top of that lets trade Marvin, then overpay for some journeyman SF.

  17. OK, I have read through the whole thread now.

    Here's my take.

    Are you guys crazy!!!!

We get our *ss handed to us by teams that have Centers. When Cleveland had Shaq, they handed us our *ss. We get the opportunity to get a big man to take the strain off of Horf and Smoove and you guys are looking at this from a feelings perspective?? I could care less what Shaq said about the city. If he's down with the trade (and he won't retire this season) I say bring him.

2nd. Marvin's contract is a problem... in 2 years. He's too unproductive to command 8+ Million dollars when we can find a 3 Million dollar replacement easily. We get Marvin off our books and send him to Cleveland to "be the man".

3rd. Like him or not, you do know that getting Shaq will make our team more watched and our games more attended. ASG has to be drolling thinking about the gate.

4th. Some of you say, Shaq is a lockerroom cancer. I have heard differently all his career. He actually bring guys together and help them to be loose. He makes his guys more of a team. How many times have we heard Shaq talk about "my guys".... from team to team. That's because he falls into line and establishes a lockerroom family. I think that in itself will help heal a lot of our wounds.

What will teams do when they see the three headed monster of Shaq, Horf, and Smoove at the 4-5? After Shaq finishing pounding them on the inside and establishes the inside outside game with Joe... Here comes Horf to pound them some more but faster.

All this for the cost of Marvin?

    Overpaid.

    Nonimpactful.

    Mistake.

Seriously, how many centers does the Hawks have trouble with? Dwight Howard that's it, with LBJ in Miami a wing defender is just as important if not more important. I don't care how much you dislike Marvin, trading Marvin to pay Shaq more money to sit on the bench in a suit half the year, makes no sense. Making such a deal doesn't move the Hawks any closer to being a contender.

  18. He said something about "good sources" - I wish I had started listening earlier...then they started talking about home refinancing and i only live like 5 minutes from work

I'm beginning to think that it was just him saying he "has good sources" - he does do the espn weekend stuff regionally tho.

Ooops - by "good sources" he was basically saying "done deal"....take that for what it's worth I guess.

You can't believe everything some clown on the radio says. What happened with that LeBron is going to NY rumor. No doubt the Cavs are trying to throw fools gold at the Hawks, yet even the ASG/Sund are not dumb enough to take it.
