  1. Source on this is good. Not much more I can say for someone who doesn't post much on here, but figured y'all would be interested.

    Draft:

The Hawks had Payne ranked #12 on their board. They like him but really wanted Saric. They thought about trading up for him but decided against it. They are very excited for Tavares. They had him ranked 19.

    FA:

As has been reported, the Hawks are going to push as hard as they can for Melo or LeBron. Not much expectation anything will happen but they're going to try.

    Current team:

Budenholzer and Ferry are incredibly encouraged about the chemistry with the team. Apparently everyone except Lou Williams has been doing voluntary team workouts every day. They have never seen a team this close before.

    Trades:

The biggest idea being kicked around is Horford for Klay Thompson. Not sure if I'd want that and neither are they.

  2. Hey guys, sorry if this topic has been discussed a lot already...I haven't been on here in a while, just wanted to know if our names are popping up in any potential trades?

I haven't seen the Hawks mentioned once in a trade scenario on ESPN or any other place...Maybe I just haven't been following it closely enough!

  3. Aug 08, 2008 10:17 PM EST

Atlanta Hawks General Manager Rick Sund announced tonight that the club has retained forward Josh Smith and matched the offer sheet of the Memphis Grizzlies.

“Tonight, the Hawks organization received an offer sheet from the Memphis Grizzlies for Josh Smith,” said Sund. “We are happy to announce that we will match their offer sheet. Ownership, management and the team are happy to have Josh return as a member of the Hawks. We look forward to training camp in October and we will continue to look at additional opportunities to improve our roster.”

Smith, whom the Hawks drafted with the 17th pick overall in the first round of the 2004 NBA Draft, has finished second in the NBA in blocks per game in each of the past two years and averaged team-highs in blocks per game (2.80) and steals per game (1.57), while also ranking second on the Hawks in points per game (17.2), rebounds per game (8.2) and assists per game (3.4) in 81 appearances last season

    So, obvious, stupid question....

Now we have Josh Smith for the next 5 years under contract at $58M?

  4. Who are the big free agents that year?

Seems to me that with Bibby coming off the books (15M), we will have a whole lot of money to play around with.

I know Marvin will be an RFA...Unless he improves a lot, I'm fine SNT'ing him for draft picks or whatever if we could get a really good FA in here in his place.

  5. He can cover many SF's adequately on defense, but I don't think his offense will ever be refined enough to be a SF on that end of the floor.

He does not have a good enough shot or ball handling skills to be put at SF full time.

PF is where he will make a name for himself. He is quicker than just about any other PF in the league.

I agree about Horford, I wish there was some way to keep them both...Horford at C just doesn't sound great to me. He had a great rookie year there, but he would be better at PF.

I think we'll eventually have to trade one for a Center, and as much as I love Josh Smith, I think it needs to be him that goes.

Horford will be a better man to man defender and much more consistent. I believe Horford will end up being the better player, even though Smoove's potential is still through the roof.

Get someone like Kaman in here for Smoove and I am a very happy man.
