  1. Man y'all trippin.

I'm tryin to make a point here and y'all cats talkin bout... practice.

    ...Practice...

We trying to get to the next level and some of our stiffest competition is gonna be in... practice.

That's what we talkin' bout... practice!

Not the game... Not the game...

    We talking bout... practice

You think I wanna see the hawks play some fools called the Knicks?

You think I wanna pay to see the hawks play some clowns called the Timberwolves?

    ...Sacremento?

...I wanna see these cats practice.

I wanna see Teague, JC, Mo (Stack), Joe Smith, ZaZa/Jason Collins make a run at the starting line up. I think they can raise the ante on them.

That's what I'm talkin' about... practice.

25% of our stiffess competition is gone be in... practice.

    Not the game... practice.

How in the hell they gone stop us, when we can't beat ourselves... in practice!

  2. I believe someone posted why we don't play Claxton already, but I forget who.

We would be paying most of his contract if we play him... while on the other hand, if we don't play him, the insurance pays for most of that hefty contract.

I don't know the details of the insurance contract, but I doubt they will pay after they hear he is now able to play.

Pretty timely article for this discussion:

    AJC article

  3. "He'd start snorting like a bull," the trainer said. "That's when he was ready to pitch."

    Thanks, AHF. Priceless.

Maybe if he's convicted of perjury his punishment could be frying his nads in an iron skillet for a couple minutes. He'd like that though. AND he'd come back out of retirement and take the mound immediately.

In the first inning of that game, it would be a BIG MISTAKE to shower any bat fragments near the mound.

  4. Lilli isn't bad. He's not a world beater but he's not bad. If you expect the Braves to compete next year or even the next is having high expectations. They have so many holes on the team that I wouldn't want to be Frank Wren. Thank Scheurholtz for screwing us with Texeira.

And Wainwright. He was mortgaging the future hoping to add one more trophy to his mantel, knowing he would quit soon.

  5. I'm expecting a loss.

The second night of a back-to-back on the road vs. the defending champs...

Very tough - back to back, in Boston where we haven't played too well in the past. No Josh.

On the other hand, adrenaline has got to be at an alltime high. We have a score to settle with the green guys. I will definitely be watching.

  6. I remember we were trying to trade up, but I didn't know the specifics.

I would have done the trade for JT and the picks in a heartbeat. I have never been a JT fan. He was good as a role player in a disciplined system in Dallas a couple of years ago, but I didn't like him in ATL where he had to be "the man." He just wasn't consistent enough to do that.

In hindsight, the only thing that gives me a millisecond's pause is parting with Josh, who could be a true stud. I would have no problem trading Chill, Deng or AI Jr. for Howard. However, the pause was only for a millisecond - I pull the trigger. Howard is fantastic. Best 5 in the league.

  7. As you can tell by my username, I am a Buckeye fan...along with a Die had Hawks fan. I can pretty much tell you what you're going to get from Othello Hunter. It's all about intensity with him, half of the games he would "show up" and give the Bucks solid pts, rebounds, and a couple of blocks...other games you wouldn't realize he's on the floor. Terrific athlete for his size...a player from the old BK regime I suppose...6'9ish that can run and jump out of the gym. Needs to get stronger physically, but who doesn't? He has a decent 15 and in game jumper...better than Horf's. Othello stepped out and even made a couple threes for the Bucks last year. Real smooth jumper. Similar to Solomon a few years ago, he's just raw with overused cliche' - potential. I'm glad he made the team. Whether or not he'll be here remains to be seen, but I'm happy for him because at times last year during some of his performances, I actually had thoughts of him possibly playing in the NBA. Other games, I thought he just an average PF on an average team.

Thanks, Buck. the Hawks exec that did the summer league blog (I can almost remember his name) was impressed by him, so I want to see him.

I really want to see R. Morris. Last game would have been a great opportunity - on the same floor with Josh and Dwight. Josh is going to make Morris get up and down the court, play defense, dive on the floor, I'm thinking.

Morris supposedly has good offensive skills down low - something no one else is strong with on this team. Seems like his problem has always been effort, at Ky and in NY. But Josh would let him hear it if he didn't bust it on the court for us.

We know what Speedy can do. For those in the other thread that said a healthy Speedy no longer exists, I'm not so sure. Hamp seemed like the Braves' most effective starter the last month of the season, which is a heck of a lot more surprising than if Speedy has returned to form.

  8. I think killing Oden is way premature here.

I would put together any package including Marvin, Zaza, Bibby, Speedy, Solomon, the rights to Josh Childress (who might sign with Portland for less money than Olymp since Portland is avant gard, and left coast, even though he didn't like us) future firsts, the hockey team, the arena, the wives, and ANYONE not named Joe, Josh, Al or Acie (I would really hate to part with him since we have GOT to have a PG now and in future. Of course, if they had to have him, bye Acie).

  9. Unlike past years, we have some players on the bottom of the pole who seem like they can play. I don't want any injuries to anyone ahead of them, but I would like to see what Randolph Morris, Speedy, Othello Hunter and Mario can do out there, even during meaningful minutes.

It's hard to think of tinkering with what looked good last game. Woody is not known for his substitution skills. There are limited minutes in a game, and lots of talent, finally, on the first and second teams.

But get these guys some minutes, Wood.

(ps: what a great problem to have)

  10. QUOTE (gsuteke @ Oct 30 2008, 05:39 PM)

but damn the Hawks just opened the season with a Win on the road against Dwight Howard.

Jeez Louise people just enjoy it!

    QUOTE (Walter) @Oct 31 2008, 07:37 AM)

Gotta agree. Also, if JS STARTS a season hot other teams are in trouble. He always starts off slow. We'll see if it all sticks.

    W

:no-no: !!!!!!!!!!!!! Walt just turned positive!!

Im putting all my money in stocks.

  11. It is a pretty safe bet we won't get a center to start in front of Horford. But you are right we need someone with legit center size to back him up. I am not expecting much from Randolph Morris.

I'm still feeling giddy. I think there is a good chance Randolph will be embarrassed to be a lazy a** in front of his old rival Josh Smith. I think he may finally start trying.

He has the size. He has a few post moves. He's just been lazy, including at Ky.

  12. We should wait and see how he does on the court before doing anything else. I'm excited to see what Marvin's got to show us after his attempts to get get in the offseason. Sounds like he's working hard, but I'd rather we wait and see how he does before really extending him.

I would try to extend him now.

Those who take no risk have no success. It's a risk to extend him before he blows up.

But his ego hasn't matured yet either. An extension would be relatively cheap.

And if we wait til he lives up to the hype, he will NOT come cheap.

We still have Al and Joe coming up to re-sign. If we can extend MW while he is not a hot commodity, we ought to do it.

He has the form, the smooth shot, the clutch free throw. If he now has strength but has kept his quickness, and can hit from 3, we may be glad we locked him down.

  13. LOL Once ASG saw that fax from Memphis they called Elsons peeps and said nevermind.

Ya never really know. Sund sweetened the pot and talked Evans into backing out of the Clippers deal.

With the Memphis offer sheet, Rick now knows exactly how much he has to invest. So, we'll see.

  14. Look I'm pissed his a** sign the offer sheet and we couldn't get any comp, what he can do is sign him and during the season trade him to Memp for picks. I just don't like coming out empty handed. This hurt us a lot. If we sign him to this contract, kiss championships hopes good bye. If we don't, kiss playoff hopes for next season good bye. We have a lot of money to sign a big time FA next season but who. Rudy Gay hasn't signed yet and can play the 2 and we can trade JJ for a Center and picks. I don't not agree to signing Smith to JJ type money. I was ok at first because I only seen the 58 mil and assumed 6 years but 5 is franchise player and Smith is not that. Sorry, we going to have to let him go and build for the 2009 FA season. Sign Marvin right now ASAP for 42 mil 6 years before this s#@! happen again. I am livid right now.

Easy, Steve, you better save some of your energy for getting ready for the trial in february
