Quote:we don't have a shooter, a rebounder, a shotblocker, or a low power scorer off the bench
Salim could have been that shooter, Solomon can be that shotblocker, Zaza can sometimes be a rebounder and low post (not so much power) scorer. I think enough potential was on the bench to fill those roles. But the problem was if they failed on their alotted chance, they got banished back to the bench.

Quote:The reality of the situation is, Joe's lack of leadership, Josh Smith's ill advised jumpers, Marvin's timid ways, Bibby's lack of production, Woody's bad coaching, Billy's bad picks, Claxton's creeky knees and bad contract, and/or the Hawks' lack of an inside presence isn't the reason why this team is in bad shape.
Wow, that pretty much sums it other. Woodson's failure to develop the bench falls squarely under "bad coaching".

Woodson is coaching on borrowed time now that the person that hired him is gone. The playoff run (and I use the word run loosely) bought him another year most likely. So Solo and Richardson, get ready for several more dnp's!

I agree with other posters, if Philly offers max do a sign and trade. Dalembert, Williams, and their draft pick would be fair I believe. Then with Williams and Law we could trade Bibby for whatever the hell we wanted.

Quote:Image what a team we would have if we draft both CP3 and Roy. Our Starting 5 would be:Chris PaulBrandon RoyJoe JohnsonJosh SMithHortfordWOW..best starting 5 in the league!-makes me wanna cry a lil bit lol o well..we still have a bright future
If we had drafted Chris Paul we would have had a slim chance at Roy and probably still would have taken Shelden because no one would have taken him at 5 and BK had a mancrush on him.
If we had taken Chris Paul, there's no way we would have ended up with the third pick two years later. Horford would have never joined the Hawks.

Quote:Forgetting the Shelden Williams over Brandon Roy/Rudy Gay from 06?
That debacle stands out more to me then Chris Paul/Marvin Williams. At least Marvin is a servicable player. The Slumlord was a complete whiff.

Copied from another thread...
This is what I would do.
1. Trade Bibby. He cant stick the quick pg's which is what the nba is moving to. He is a streaky shooter that's more off then on. He isnt part of our future. Move him while he has value.
2. Fire Woodson. No excuse for getting blown out four straight road games. Losing four straight road games is one thing, but as badly as we did, he needs to go.
3. Decide what kind of team we want to be. If its a running team, then...
3a. Lets trade Bibby for a running pg.
If its a halfcourt team...
3b. Trade Marvin or Smooth for a legit center, then move Horford to power forward.
4. Do NOT give Smooth max money. He isnt nearly consistent enough with his jumper and turnovers. Giving max to a player that isnt at least an all-star is dumb.
5. If Woodson is kept, tell Woodson the only way he keeps his job is by playing and developing the bench. We cant go another season only playing 7 deep.
6. Get Law and Solomon to work their tails off. There are minutes available for them, but they both have to improve their offensive games to stay on the court. Law has to get his jumper back from college, and Solomon needs to bulk up more and get some kind of post-up game.
7. We must learn to win on the road. It killed us all season. If we had won half our games on the road (is that TOO much to ask for?) we wouldnt have been stuck playing the best team in the league for the first round.
Go Hawks.

His last three games should cancel all that max-contract talk.

Try to stay rational people. We pushed the best team in the nba to the brink. Lets not blow it up.

I think I can sum up Woodson's performance today in one word: EXPOSED

Quote:Quote:Jeremy Richardson then Salim.
Jeremy is a 6'6 sharpshooter with the ability to attack the basket, but I would to see for him to get three or four open looks if JJ is double teamed--and see how he does..
Boston would likely dare him to shoot and if he makes it a few times it can give the Hawks a real boost for Game 7 and put doubt in Boston.
I'll be stunned if he sees the court for meaningful minutes. Then again I was surprised when I saw Solomon Jones.

I am a Marvin hater. He played awesome tonight, but the thing that sucks is that this is the same thing that happened in the regular season. We'd write him off, he'd play one good (but not great) game and everyone starts saying "see hes got all the talent in the world, just give him time" then they are content with his suckiness.
-
I would be thrilled with that trade. We'd be an awesome shot blocking/rebound team. Chills also would be resigned if this trade went down.
The problem is Marvin isnt worth Okafor, especially after this series.
-
I will support any trade that involves Marvin Williams after what we've seen from him this playoffs. He's been completely exposed.
-
I dont know, I was driving to work Tuesday morning and all 680 could talk about was the freaking Falcons draft. Seriously guys? After one of the biggest wins in 10 years we're talking about players that havent played one minute of one game over and over?

Quote:I had to listen on the radio ... Garnett backed down? Please! Post a link when it's up!

Zaza,
I am sorry for dogging you this year and wanting you to be traded. Tonight you forever earned my respect. You punked my new most-hated player, Kevin Girlnett. You stepped to his face and he backed down, just like he's done his entire career. Thank you for showing heart and strength and being that enforcer we so desperately needed (even though Woodson buried you on the bench in the 2nd half). No matter what happens, you are the man.
p.s. Prepare to be immortalized on Youtube.

Its pissing me off hearing all the Celtics fans cry about the Hawks talking smack. The Celtics have been running their mouths the entire series.
Last night I sat about 20 rows behind the Celtics bench. I saw Garnett say something to Josh Smith, then hold up a "2" right in Josh Smith's face. But thats ok, because Garnett is intense and a veteran and he just wants to win. Josh Smith, Horford? They're young, they gotta earn respect before they can talk, they're out of line.
Im sick of the free pass Garnett gets. When he runs his mouth, starts crying and pouting, its so wonderful and Boston fans applaud him, but when we talk back we're young thugs.
-
I would do it but no way the Clips do it, and highly unlikely the Bobcats do it. We'll be able to grab Thebeet.

Look, Marvin is a joke. The only reason he scores points is because he gets to the foul line. Once scouts learn to back off Marvina and let him shoot, its over. He is out of trouble, not confident, and just awkward. He cant shoot a 3. He cant beat anyone off the dribble. He disappears in games. Plus dont forget he's scoring 15 points in what, 36 minutes? Thats not terribly difficult when you get all the open jumpers that Marvin does because JJ gets doubled and tripled.
Josh Smith is our only shot blocker, gets a good amount of steals, has range to hit 3s, can rebound well. Yeah he cant shoot but lots of players learned how to shoot. Look at Kobe, Magic. Obviously those were some of the best but the skill is the same.
Anoter reason to trade Marvin...he really cant play another position. Smoove can play either forward.
How much longer are we going to Marvin a free pass because he's young and supposedly has potential and talent? And do we REALLY want to give him an extension next year, outside of the fact that if we dont it looks like we failed in the '05 draft?

What I meant to say was here was their combined stats.
Player 1 is Chris Paul, Player 2 is Marvin
