I agree with you guys, except for 2 minor details ...

1. We don't have the money to sign Lebron or Wade or any other teams max level FA. Our best option is to re-sign our best player or use him in a S&T to get something else of value. I suspect we'll be doing a S&T with him and through that means we'll hopefully improve our team by making it more balanced.

2. Being over the cap we could try and trade for Lebron or Wade or Bosh but those players would have to agree to play in Atlanta and their current team would have to agree to make a trade with us and since those are all eastern conference teams I see little to no chance of that happening.

The Hawks dont have a whole lot of leverage. The best chance they have is if JJ insist on the extra 20 mill or so he can get out of a sign and trade. If the Knicks were willling to part with picks would a 3 team trade involving the Knicks Hawks and a team willing to take the Knicks pick for a restricted or unrestricted free agent in a sign and trade be possible? Something like the Griz get picks from NY, the Knicks get JJ and the Hawks get Rudy Gay?

Of course we would have the $5.5 mill MLE but that cannot be combined with the $7 mill of cap space.

yes i agree but Rudy gay can also replace Marvin Williams to. But for some reason i want to trade Joe Johnson in a sign and trade for a big man because i really want to see our young ins start and do really good this year.But if Joe stayed i would hope he moves most of his minutes to the small forward position to let Jordan Crawford develop.

good post man!........i asked the same question about what does JJ offer that cant be replaced to myself and here are some things that cant be replaced if JJ leaves:

-the fact that JJ weighs 240 and plays SG gives the hawks an advantage! JJ is the biggest SG in the NBA as far as weight and his height is average at his position at 6'7 so he should be able to back any SG down to the paint and score when one on one...............thats a huge advantage!

-JJ demands the double team which crawford and the crawford probably wont get and that will play in our advantage as well

-My last one is JJ has shown good solid defense even on switches that woody ran when he had to face good solid faster and quicker PG's and thats a plus that he can defend man on man at the perimeter and is willing and has shown he can defend guys quicker than him.............this is also huge because both crawfords who could take over the scoring load for JJ if he leaves are not known to be solid defensively or average at that

So though the crawfords could probably take over the scoring if JJ were to leave there are many other probs we will end up having!

Jordan is definitely a scorer who shoots the ball a lot, but Dominque Jones is a more physical guard who gets to the line in the same fashion that a Dwayne Wade gets to the line.

Last season, Jones got to the FT line 10+ times (TWELVE TIMES) to Jordan's two.
