  1. If Joe was still in ATL, Harden wouldn't have had near 45pts tonight. That is the irony. Harden still has a lot to prove. Joe went toe to toe with Dwade in his prme during the 2009 playoffs and won the battle. When Harden does something of that sort then he gets all of the props in the world. Right now he is killing it in the reglar season. Props on that but I need to see more.

  2. Joe is a real good player, but is already going out of his way to hate on his time in Atlanta. Why are you so obsessed with defending someone that Hawk fans have every responsibility to dislike? And saying that Deron Williams is better than Nash in his prime isn't going to help your credibility.

What exactly has he gone out of his way to say hatefully about his time in Atlanta? You guys are funny. I haven't seen him say a single thing hateful about his time as a Hawk. Not one single quote. Please correct me since I'm obviously wrong and this kind of info is out there.
  3. We ALL know Joes contract is awful. His most loyal fans (I'm talking back to Arkansas) will admit his contract is awful. However, the idea that Joe is actually good angers me. Joe Johnson isn't a top 15 SG in the NBA. His numbers would say otherwise, but when you look at them closely, you will see most of the time Joe gets 5-7 useless points at the end of most games. In reality, most nights, Joe has a "tough night" every other night. Every time I look up he is 3-14 with 9 points or whatever.

A list of SGS I would rather have (In no order)

    Kobe

    Wade

    Harden

    Marshawn Brooks

    Kevin Martin

    Eric Gordon

    Manu

    Stephon Jackson

    Marcus Thornton

    Wesley Matthews

    Jason Terry

    Gerald Henderson

    Paul George

    Oj Mayo

    Landry Fields

    Demar Derozan

    Wes Johnson

Throw John Jenkins the guy we got in the draft the other night in there as well.

Bottom line is this. Joe Johnson is a scrub at this point in his career. If you shoot 30 times a night, SOMETHING will drop. If Danny Ferry pulls this off, I will NEVER question him again.

  4. Let me clearify, trading Joe would be good for the Hawks LONGTERM! If we trade Joe we have to trade Josh too. There's no point trading one guy while letting the other stay. You want to know why? It's because of this stupid offensive system that we've ran for the past 6 something years that Woodson and Drew have creamed over. Give them each a star player and they will run that player to death out on the court. We need to bring back team basketball, we can do that with Teague and Horford.

I agree but that is exactly what Hawk fans are clamoring for. Building "around" Teague and Horford. Horford has yet to prove he can consistently create offensive opportunities for himself and Teague has yet to prove he can consistenly create offensive opportunities for others besides himself. Not a good look in my opinion. I hope the trade does go through. I agree that we should trade Josh too. No point in winning a bunch of pointless games when the plan is to suck bad enough to get higher draft picks. I won't mention Free Agency because the hawks have never been an attractive spot for free agents.
  5. For this to be more than even wishful thinking, Dwight would have to actually have some interest in coming here. So far there has been zero evidence. If he doesn't want to be here and ORL trades him here anyhow for there sake, It will be a one year rental. Then we are back where we started. It is fun to talk about but it is what it is.

  6. Never seen so much fuss over a kid taken at pick 43. I also haven't seen one person build him u as an all-star. He is an older player that has an NBA body. He doesn't mind playing around the rim. He isn't an all-star caliber guy but he become a good role player. Hopefully he does.

  7. Having seen Jenkins play 20xs this past year, this kid will be a good pro. He isn't the flashy player everyone loves but he will be around in his league for awhile. Shooters like him don't just fall off of trees and the NBA needs shooters bad. All those wide open shots our guys missed this year? Jenkins is going to knock them down. I think he is already one of the best shooters in this league and he hasn't stepped foot on a court yet. Super quick shot release as well.

  8. Yeah Buzzard...the handwriting is on the wall as far as Josh goes - IMO. If we keep him he will just continue to be frustrated at being a big fish in a small pond - so we may as well get what we can for him.Once we trade him he will become the player we always wanted him to be - in order to stick it up our ___s and show that the Atlanta Hawks were holding him back.To be fair to Smoove - he may have a bit of a point though.

I'm just not buying that at all. The only thing holding Josh Smith back is Josh Smith.
  9. With all the trash talk of Josh in the forum, makes me wonder if I would have read the same junk back in the 70s about Pete Maravich and in the 80s about Dominque. You want to hand Josh to the Lakers for Gasol who will stay a year or two like Danny Manning and/or Isaiah Rider and when we have nothing to showf or Gasol or Josh 3 years from now, will be shaking your head saying how did we get so bad so fast. Not a path I want to go down. Keep Josh. The man had an outstanding season IMHO.

You make it sound so simple when its not. You can't just "Keep Josh." There is no guarantee he even wants to stay. We could "Keep Josh" and watch him walk away as a free agent next summer....
  10. The bottom line to me is that in the playoffs the game slows down tremendously. Teams are forced to play in the halfcourt more. We are not built well as a halfcourt team because we don't have a playmaker at the PG position. If Teague was a deadeye shooter that would help a ton but he isn't. There were a ton of times Joe passed out of a double team toa wiiiiiiide open Teague and Teague was scared to take the shot or hesitated and threw himself out of rhythm. Josh was the other option and he just isn't very efficient shooting from 16-23ft. If Joe was passing to say a wide open Chalmers are some PG who would consistently knock down that wide open 3. The doubles. Wouldn't come so quick. Either that or Smoove playing in the Hipost or Lowpost as opposed to spotting him.

  11. We just don't have the scouting department or upper management to do well in the draft it seems. I wish we had the scouting and management of a team like the Spurs, Nuggets etc. who almost always hit on draft picks and free agent acquisitions. I remember when the Spurs took Tony Parker with pick 28 and everyone was like who??? Same thing with guys like Kawhi Leonard, Ty Lawson and Kenneth Faried. Not taking Rondo when they had a chance to get him. Some teams just have a front office that gets it. It seems like everyone on the planet knows what the Hawks need but the front office can't make it happen. I giggle everytime I play NBA 2K and Steve Kerr starts mentioning how the Hawks need a true PG or true C to take the next step. The even question the decision to hire Mike Woodson's assisstant as his replacement and this is a videogame we are talking about.

  12. Pretending you are Larry Drew tonight, what do you say to the Hawks prior to tip-off?Me as LD: "Smart basketball tonight guys......only smart basketball. No silly turnovers. That is what has killed us in this series is turnovers. We can beat these guys convincingly if we take smart shots and don't turn the basketball over because we are better than them Period. Now lets go out and focus for 48 minutes on playing with extreme effort and avoiding costly turnovers. Move the basketball. Take good shots. We are averaging just 16.6assit to 15.8turnovers in this series fellas. That won't get it. Lets go out and win this game tonight."

  13. I smell 3-16 with a total of 12 points. And a blow out loss. This team doesn't have it folks. Last night showed us what we are really made of.

I'm not buying that. This team has fought hard all year despite a myriad of injuries to key players. If josh can give a solid contribution and Marvin shows up we have a shot. We lost to them without Rondo BUT we DID beat them with Rondo in game one. I am hoping for the best.
  14. Here some basic stats about what you claimSeason: 18,8 points, 3,7 rebounds, 3,9 assists, 45,4 %Against over 50% teams (30 games), He is averaging 18 points, 3,6 rebounds and 3,8 assists, 45,1% (6,9/15,3)Against over 50% teams (last two months, 13 games): 22,7 points, 4,4 rebounds, 3,5 assists, 52% (8,6/16,6)

Damn...he has been tearing it up against +.500 teams. He and Josh have held it down despite all of the injuries to the hawks this year. Kudos.
  15. Not a bad game but one I felt we should have won. It is close games like tonight against good teams that really makes me wonder just how much having Horford would have helped. Yes, Josh was All World tonight and Joe was ok on 15 points on 13 shots but we need more from JJ. He can't reasonably be expected to score in the mid twenties or more but we needed those extra free throws he should be getting by posting up and getting fouls.

Yep. Joe is arguably our best post-up player. He has to get more shots up and score more consistently. Josh played as well a you can ask. We are 20-1 when Joe scores 20+. We are 20-5 when Josh scores 20+. When we get them both going we are hell to beat. There needs to be a more conscious effort to do that. I understand Joe not wanting to force a ton of shots against set defense our double-teams. With that said, I would still rather se him go 7-20 in a loss than 7-13. At least find a way to get the shots up. Whether out be plays, true isos, post-ups etc.

  16. Joe said the same thing last year and mentioned how they have had"countless meetings" as players. I'm sure he and others have said such to Josh. Horford has also pretty much said the same. As long as Josh keeps playing well I'm cool. He still has no business taking so many long 2ptrs but what can you do at this point?
