    How about some positivity

    I'm a longtime lurker but I felt that I wanted to activate my account just to share some thoughts in light of the trade commotion. Here are some of my thoughts on the team as we stand.

    The Good

    Dennis: I noticed he occasionally gets some flack by some Hawks fans. I actually think Dennis is achieving as expected, if not a little over achieving. He has been a leader and voice of our team. I often see him leading our team in cheers from the bench and constantly in discussion with other players and coaches. He has been leading us in scoring in about half our games. Looking into the future, i think his ceiling is still high and I would love to have him long long term. Nothing but praise for Dennis. 

    Thabo: He has also been having a great year for his role. He is a solid vet that is one of our best defenders and is very consistent. If our goal is a championship, which it should be, Thabo is a great piece to keep. 

    Millsap -  I'm assuming he's going to be traded. But nothing but good words for this man (and Kyle). I wish them well.

    Dwight: Here's a big one. In my opinion, Dwight has been reaching expectations thus far. He has given us something we've never had before in his elite rebounding. I don't think we brought him in to be dominant on offense. In fact, I noticed that (especially when Millsap is also on the floor) the ball very rarely gets passed to him. I think this is by design as it's known that his offense is limited these days. Dwight is a solid overall center. Personality wise, I think he's doing exactly what he's been wanting to do: keep his head down and just play basketball. I'm actually very happy with Dwight and I think he should stay long term. 

    Malcolm Delaney: Another big one. I also noticed a lot of posters wanting to replace him as our back up PG. I see nothing but professionalism from Delaney. He is very reserved and knows his role very well. I don't see him making a lot of mistakes or trying to do anything that's out of his skill set. I think his a very Spurs-esqe player similar to Patty Mills. I think he's also a keeper.

    Moose: He's having a good season overall as a backup. Not much to say about him otherwise. 

    Tim Hardaway Jr: Finally he caught up to expectations. I'm liking him more and more. He goes hot and cold by game which is a little bit of a gamble. I'm not sure what to expect long term from him but as of now I'm happy with him too.

    The Bad:

    Kent Bazemore: The thread is titled positivity so I'll keep this brief. We know he hasn't been playing to his contract. One thing that I have been noticing is that he's the best at passing to dwight on the drive.

    Is that everyone? Wow that's a lot. Also, bonus questions:

     

    1.) Do you think Pero should have been in the Rising Stars game as a sophomore player? Do you see anyone on the International roster that he deserved to play over?

    Yeah... probably not.

     

    2.) This question is really interesting. Do you think the Hawks will sit next to each other during the non- All Star game festivities? Like imagine during Kyle's 3 pt contest seeing Horford, Teague, Millsap, and Dennis all sitting on the sideline rooting for Kyle. Or maybe they will take the opportunity to hang with their other non- Hawks friends?

     

     

  8. Wow! Fans came through! Hawks All-star chances increase

    The whole of Canada voted for Lowry.

     

    Honestly good for them. That's the way things should be. Fans of a city should pull through for their players. Even with our success we couldn't get any of our players even close to having a chance to get voted in, which is sad. Marcin Gortat was 4th place in east forward voting!

    As I was saying. It's a good year in that underrated players such as the Gasols and Lowry actually got the recognition they deserve over players like Irving, Wade, Dwight, and Love.

    The latest polling prior to today's announcement of the All-Star starters had wade well ahead of Kyle Lowry. But somehow, Lowry was voted in (an rightfully so). This makes Teague an almost lock and gives Kyle (and Horf and Millsap thanks to the 2 wild card spots) some hope! This will be remembered as the year in which all of the starters voted in were almost perfectly correct!

     

  12. 3-part question on Hawks All-stars

    I know a similar question was asked, but  it is a lot more interesting when asked like this:

     

    1.) Which Hawks do YOU WANT to make the all-star team?

     

    2.) Which Hawks DESERVE to make the all-star team?

     

    3.) Which Hawks WILL (based on history and expected votes from the coaches, likely not in our favor) make the all star team?

     

    My take:

     

    1.) Teague, Millsap, and Horford. I think Millsap and Horford have had equal contributions and its too difficult to not have one of them in. Teague is a no brainer. I would love all four guys with Korver but like most people say, we need to win a championship for something like that to happen.

     

    2.) All four for sure. Korver deserves it over Wade and Irving for sure. But of course that's not going to happen. Also Love will probably get in which might bump out Millsap or Horford.

     

    3.) Teague and Millsap. I got the feeling that this was the consensus. If it weren't for Horford's late start too, he would be here.

  13. Is it possible for the Hawks to have 4 All-Stars?

    The consensus is that Jeff and Paul will get in. In my opinion, I think it should Jeff and Al. I love Paul and he really is a do-it-all player, but lately his scoring load has been lessend by the emergence of Al. Personally, I would rather have Al get his 3rd all-star appearance.

     

    Could you imagine 4 all stars? Does that not yell Championship Pistons to you? Also imagine:

    Al, Paul. Jeff, Kyle as All-Stars

    Hawks coaching staff coaching the game

    Antić and/or Dennis at the Rookie/Soph game.

    Thanks for sharing! I am also up in SE Michigan. I've been to quite a few Hawks game the last couple years up here but I wasn't able to make it last night. I've been able to meet Bob and Nique after the game a couple times, Bob really is a nice guy. He seemed surprised that there were fans that wanted to talk to him. That is awesome about Horford, I haven't been able to meet any of the players except Korver. I'm guessing you caught him before the game?

    Went to the game tonight

    1. Al Horford signed my Horford jersey! It really made my night since I'm a lonely Hawks fan near Detroit.

     

    2. Pero has a huge following in Detroit. People were lining up to see him. Detroit seemed to have a large Macedoinian community. He was hugging and talking to them as if they were family (maybe they were?). It made me really appreciate how important Pero is to the Macedonian people.

     

    3. I stopped Bob Rathbun from walking into the tunnel. We shook hands and I told him I follow SportsSouth as much as I can. He seemed really appreciative of that! Overall he seems like a really nice guy.

     

    Basketball related:

     

    1. If Al Horford would've played like this from the start he would be a guaranteed all star.

     

    2. Dennis' fall looked pretty bad from my angle, but he kept playing thankfully.

     

    I'm just releasing my thoughts. It's really late but I thought I would share.

  17. Highly likely: Kyle Korver will make USA squad despite low playtime in exhibitions

    I was listening to NBA radio and if I recall correctly, Malik Rose said at a USA practice he clearly heard the coach yell out set plays along the lines of "Korver 4" or something like that. Regardless, I think it's pretty safe to assume they will be cutting the younger guys like Hayward, Lillard, and maybe even Drummond. Korver will be on the team for certain situation purposes only .

  18. Luol Deng vs Greg Monroe?

    This reminds me of the whole Monta Ellis/ Brandon Jennings ordeal we suffered from last summer. "Strong" rumors indicated that we would get one of those players and it peresisted for weeks, only to end up getting someone who wasn't even in our rumor mill. As much as I want both of them, Deng more than Monroe, I believe we're no longer getting either player. Expect a sigining of Rodney Stuckey or Kris Humphries or someone random like that.

  23. Merged: Knicks want Teague

    Hardaway Jr. is not leaving, as much as we want him too. There is absolutely no way they part with him. Shump and Felton have been on the block and that's probably what we'll get in return. If we could trade Teague and Lou Williams for Shump, Felton, and something else I would be more than happy.
