  1. I see Kamisnsky fitting perfectly in Bud's system. He is not the athlete that Payne is but he is bigger, more polished in the post, can shoot the perimeter jumper just as well, but has much higher basketball IQ and is a gifted passer.

I agree Kaminsky eerily fits us so well. Below are a couple selections from a great read on him.

"...NBA scouts love Kaminsky’s versatility. Along with his arsenal of moves in the paint, he has a soft shooting touch that makes him a threat from the outside. Rare is the 7-footer that can swish a three-pointer as easily as he can a free throw. But that describes Kaminsky to a T...

...On the season he’s shooting 52.7 percent from the field, 76.5 percent from the foul stripe and 37.8 percent from three-point range. He averages 14.1 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game...

...Indeed, Kaminsky’s basketball IQ is another one of his biggest strengths. His knowledge and feel for the game was developed largely because of the time he spent as a child around his father, who played professionally overseas before coaching at the high school and small college level...

...Another reason for Wisconsin’s success is its chemistry. Kaminsky said most of the Badgers live near one another and often gather to play pingpong or video games. The camaraderie off the court clearly translates to success on it, where Wisconsin prides itself in selflessness and taking quality shots...

...While some post players get rattled and sped up, he often lets three-to-four seconds pass before making a move toward the basket. In other words, he lets things develop around him, sees how the defense reacts and then either takes the shot himself or uses a head fake to draw a second defender, freeing up an open teammate."

  2. This is the only game this season I had to cut off in the 3rd quarter. Super sloppy basketball on both sides in the 3rd. Neither team got it barely over half court before a turnover.

Pero continuing to justify me thinking he needs to sit. At the end of the bench.

Seriously. We need to start warming up Brand 10-15 games going into the playoff. Brand has always been efficient at least.

  3. Loved the article. I really enjoyed the analysis around the reasons for overlooking him at the NBA draft combine.

In fact I seem to enjoy more stat driven articles written by fans more than anything from the major media outlets (aside from a couple articles from our boy Zach Lowe down at Grantland).

  4. Looks like Magic could be willing to part with Mo Harkless for the cheap. Is it worth giving up a second rounder for him? Not much offensively but could he be worth a gamble to potentially develop for the defense (since Payne's out and Jenkins is likely too). minutes he has played the production

    Anyone know much about him?

Interesting write up on him below:

  5. Havent heard much about this lately...

Ok im about to go into conspiracy theory mode...

    After reading this:

"The Commissioner's total compensation in 2013 is a fair reflection of his leadership and contributions during the year," said Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank, who is chairman of the compensation committee, in a statement. "Compensation packages for Roger and other senior executives are reviewed annually; accordingly, the compensation committee will conduct a thoughtful review and make a determination of 2014 compensation in March."

I wonder if ol' Artie gave Goodell a nice compensation package to mitigate our punishment. If we loose a draft pick in rounds 1-3 it would be a major blow.

  6. Stephen A. like many of the "major" talking heads really irk me.

When criticism comes from a great who has played the game and actually accomplished something (Ex: Magic Johnson), I respect their opinion way more, because they have done it, they have gone through being an athlete and can see things media personalities don't see.

Stephen A. knows he's a character. I don't even remember him breaking down NBA footage in his life, but then again Im sure thats a product of sports media in general dumbing it down for everyone.

While we are on the topic. I love how even athletes are responding to the garbage he is spreading. Not that I am a fan of Josh Gordon or what he does but I did find his statement very amusing. Stephen A. counters with more garbage that the masses eat up as per usual.

  7.

"But if you do know what you're looking for, then you'd see Paul Millsap has been playing at the level he is this season basically since 2008. Atlanta saw that, and because they did and no one else didn't, they were able to sign him without competition for half the market price."

This reminds me of an amazing quote:

"Talent hits a target no one else can hit; Genius hits a target no one else can see."

                                                                          - Arthur Schopenhauer

  8. Interesting video by Forbes on the shopping of the Nets. What I found most interesting was how Balmer didn't even look at the financials of the Clippers before he bought them (what a baller). I hope the potential sale of the Nets at the same time doesn't stymie our chances of getting a decent ownership especially with Brooklyn being a prime market. Or if Mikhail wants an instant winner with no added work he can look our way. spiteful.gif

  9. Ferry and Bud have truly outdone themselves with the success of the team. I would go as far as to say if teams in smaller markets want to build a team without having a superstar they sure as hell are going to take particular note of how this team was built.

To me there are two brands of basketball being played right now:

    1. Me Ball

    2. Team Ball

The former is way more marketable and profitable and I think that is why you saw this shift in the way consumers were attracted to the NBA for a majority of Stern's tenure. There was a rush to 1.) Aquire/draft superstar(s) who monopolizes a majority of the teams stats 2.) Build around with players that complement him. In my opinion 90% of the league thinks this way. If you think about it what is the primary purpose of the All Star Game: to showcase the individual stars, further promoting the individual rather than the team.

I think the latter is something real special: Basketball based on the fundamentals. For many that played basketball when they were younger probably enjoy watching the Hawks today because they frankly do not care who is scoring as long as the team wins, something I personally was taught growing up playing ball. This type of ball play is really played in Europe but in the NBA highlighted first by the 2003 Spurs (feat our very own Danny Ferry) and continued by the 2004 Pistons to an extent.

I truly think that if the Hawks make it deep into the playoffs that we could start a potential shift in the way organizations approach team building. Can you imagine an NBA where the group is more important than the individual? What are your thoughts?

    GO HAWKS!

  10. Could Thaddeus Young be had for Salmons? Seems like they tried to trade him on draft day. We could maybe even get a second rounder out of it?

"On Draft night, the Sixers offered a package of Elfrid Payton and Young to the Orlando Magic in hopes of securing Orlando's 2015 first round pick, but ultimately settled on simply receiving Dario Saric, their re-gifted 2017 first round pick and a 2015 second round pick."

  11. Long time lurker here. I don’t post much on here but I figure I break the ice and start a discussion for the first time.

I have long wondered about a our GM’s ability to get the most assets from a deal. Similar to many people here, after the recent trade I was a bit irked by how little Ferry was able to get in return for Lou and Bebe.

I look at a GM like Hinkie who owned 20% of the second round picks this year by flipping scrubs like Evan Turner and Lavoy Allen and wonder how we aren't able to get maximum value. On top of that her was able to swipe Saric while netting a second AND a future first for letting the Magic move up 2 spots for Payton! Other GM’s like Morey and Ainge are seemingly also able to attain maximum value in trades.

Meanwhile in Atlanta, we can’t get anything for Josh Smith, can’t seem to trade Teague ever for anything good and had to add a first round sweetener for the Raptors to take a reasonable player and contract in Lou. Even in the Joe Johnson deal we weren’t able to get Marshon Brooks and had to settle for swiping firsts (which by the way hope works out for us next year).

Now before you say “why is this dude crying over a couple second round picks ?” Can you imagine what Ferry and Bud could have done with the second rounders the 76ers had? We could probably build a whole overseas farm system with those picks haha. In actuality its not just about the second rounders but our inability as a whole to get better deals.

I don’t want to come off as too negative here because I’m very optimistic about the hawks in general and love what Ferry is doing. All I’m saying is it would be nice to see him get more valuable assets in his trades. For once, I want to see the Hawks get the longer end of the stick in a trade, especially for a team that repeatedly gets touted as being the most "flexible" during every Free Agency period.

What are your thoughts? What do you think is dictating our inability to get better deals? Is Ferry just not a great negotiator?
