  1. Propoosal: NY Trades: Anfernee Hardaway Quentin Richardson NY Receives: Al Harrington Jalen Rose ATL Trades: Al Harrington Josh Childress Josh Smith ATL Receives: Chris Bosh Quentin Richardson Toronto Trades: Jalen Rose Chris Bosh Toronto Receives: Anfernee Hardaway Josh Childress Josh Smith Why Atlanta does trade? First, Atlanta's fate is having cap-space and not being able to convince free agents to sign with a losing organization; therefore, they have to make trades for players with reasonable salaries to acquire talent until they become a winning team that attracts other players. It is likely that Al could leave the ATL for a big dollar contract and leave the Hawks without anything to show for him. Further, Chris Bosh went to school at GT, has 2 more years on his contract, and would love to be in his hometown. With Bosh and Q instead of Smith, Childress, and Harrington, financially only increase payroll by about 2 mil and these players are locked for the next two years. Essentially, trading Al for Q (with Al being more talented, but Q being signed for 'reasonable' over the next 4 years plus plays defense with better outside shot and played well with JJ) and Childress/Smith for Bosh (which I can't imagine anybody wouldn't want to do as he is a stud and they are only potentially studs). A front court of Zaza, Bosh, Q with JJ and whoever at PG would be tall, athletic, good shoters with inside game and slashing ability. Why Toronto: Two fold - Childress and Smith have an extra year on Bosh on rookie contract so possibly they develop and then are trade bait to acquire already signed players to play in Toronto (honestly, who wants to sign and play in Toronto). Also, gets them out from under Jalen's contract by acquiring Penny's ending contract. Why NY: Isiah has yearned for Al, and to acquire him he must swallow Jalen's contract for 1 year, which he has contemplated in the past and would add obvious pop to his currently disappointing lineup. Thoughts? Financially this trade goes through. Another thought, ATL trades Tony Delk (expiring contract) to DET for Carlos Arroyo. DET needs some salary cap space to sign Ben Wallace at the end of the year and Arroyo gets few min esp with Lindsay Hunter still present. Plus, Delk adds pop to the lineup. For ATL, Arroyo has 3 more years at 4 mil each and would be a decent PG for a team without one.
  2. Billy Knight needs to save this debacle with ownership and put Belkin's mouth where his money is! Atlanta Trades: Boris Diaw Donta Smith Laker's 1st Round Pick (Top 15 Protected) for 2006 2nd Round Pick for 2006 Trade Exception Atlanta Receives: Joe Johnson Why? Gets Atlanta their dude, saves their 1st round pick that Belkin doesn't want to give up. Phoenix Trades: Joe Johnson Phoenix Receives: Shareef Abdul Raheem at mid level exception Atlanta's 2006 2nd Round Pick Boris Diaw Why? They want to get something for JJ and Shareef is a good big man that provides great depth and strength to their lineup. Portland Trades: Shareef Abdul Raheem Portland Receives: Trade Exemption Lakers 2006 1st Round Pick (Top 15 Protected) Donta Smith Why? This is exactly what they would have gotten from NJ, slightly better. Thoughts?

    New Plan

Hawks Proposed Offseason Plan: Goal - Acquire Talent for Deep Roster Trade 1: Atlanta Trades: Al Harrington, Boris Diaw, 2nd Round Pick (31) Atlanta Receives: Carlos Arroyo, Michael Olowokandi, Derrick Coleman's Contract, Ndudu Ebi, Detroits 1st Round Pick (26) Why? Arroyo is a solid point guard with decent size and a pass first attitude, plus he is signed for the next 3yr at 4mil per; if he is no good for us, he is cheap and tradeable asset as great backup. Olowokandi is a waste, but he is a big man on a reasonable contract with next year being his contract year- so on a bad team, he may put up good numbers and have trade value at the deadline with his expiring contract, plus Atlanta will not use all of its cap room. Ebi is young with upside with little contract. We upgrade 2nd pick. Detroit Trades: Carlos Arroyo, 1st Round Pick (26), Coleman's Contract Detroit Receives: Al Harrington, Atlanta's 2nd Round Pick (31) Why? No brainer, they need depth on their bench and get it now with Harrington; they have a backup at PG with Hunter and Harrington has only 1 year on his contract and they will then need capspace for resigning Prince and Wallace. Trading 1st round pick frees up capspace b/c 2nd round contract is non-guaranteed money, while 1st round is guaranteed. Minnesota Trades: Michael Olowokandi, Ndudu Ebi Minnesota Receives: Boris Diaw Why? Minnesota would love to get rid of Olowokandi to get his money off the books and have more capspace to keep Garnett happy. Biaw is cheap with some upside. Draft - #1 Andrew Bogut - never pass on size; with Olowokandi, will learn to bang against big body in practice and has 1 year to develop before taking on starting role #26 (from Detroit) Jarrett Jack - him and Arroyo will allow for great plattoon at PG Free Agency Kwame Brown - comes home, starts on a terrible team and gets more time, will be huge player in 1 year - 5 year at 45mil - 8,8.5,9,9.5,10 PG - Carlos Arroyo, Jarrett Jack SG - Josh Childress, Tony Delk SF - Josh Smith, Ndudu Ebi, Donta Smith PF - Kwame Brown, Pedrag Drobjnak C - Michael Olowokandi, Andrew Bogut This 2005-06 team should be bad enough, but exciting to win the lottery again, have another good draft with getting Lakers #1 pick also and will have plenty of capspace for more free agency signings and will now be deep and young and exciting. Further, should get good talent from trade of Olowokandi at deadline. Thoughts of this realistic plan?
  4. Hawks need to play the draft right - New Orleans has stated that SF is the position they need and want, but Charlotte has also expressed interest in that position as well as a UNC player. So, trade 1 is as follows: (if lottery goes according to rankings) Atlanta Trades: #1 pick, the 1st pick of 2nd Round, and Diaw Charlotte Trades: #3 pick and #13 pick Why: Charlotte really wants Marvin Williams, and if they stay at #3, New Orleans will take him. For Atlanta, they will still get Bogut at #3 as New Orleans will take Chris Paul if Williams is gone - so Atlanta picks up an early 1st round pick by accomodating Charlotte with Williams, a player that doesn't fit into Atlanta's lineup with Smooze and Childress; plus, this trade saves Charlotte money as the 2nd round pick is non-guaranteeed, as #13 is 1.5 and guaranteed (Charlotte team building around Okafor and Williams is solid) Draft: #3 Bogut, #13 D. Williams Free Agency - go after a big man and a shooter; Dalembert or Chandler; Ray Allen or Michael Redd - have enough money to give 2 max contracts Lineup Pg - Deron Williams/Royal Ivey SG - Ray Allen/Josh Childress/Tony Delk SF - Al Harrington/Josh Smith/Donta Smith PF - Sam Dalembert/Josh Smith/Pedrag Drobjnak C - Andrew Bogut/Sam Dalembert/Jason Collier This team will have height, length, athleticism, shooting, leadership, youth and veterans. Thoughts? Only requires 1 definitely reasonable trade and convincing 2 free agents to sign in atlanta (great city for athletes) to max contracts that their respective team does not want to pay that much.
  5. Need some bold moves to be competitive next year - San Antonio model! Conditions of Trade: Hawks with worst record in NBA plus Lakers don't make playoffs Atlanta Trades: 2005 2nd Round Pick, 1st Round Pick from Boston/LA, Tony Delk, Predrag Drobnjak, Donta Smith Portland Trades: Theo Ratliff, 2005 1st Round Pick (top 5 protected) Why? Theo recently signed a contract extension that has 3 years remaining after this year with approx 35 million. I agree that is way too much for Theo, but it is only 5 mil more next year once lose Tony and Predrag's contracts. Further, he is a defensive minded, long, athletic 7 footer with a fair offensive game. Lastly, Portland gets out of his huge contract (saves 25 million) since they are starting Joel Pryzbilla and Theo is coming of the bench. Would I prefer Chandler, Curry, or Brown - sure, but they will be more money and require 6 years, and who is to say they will ever mature if you give them that many years at so a huge dollar figure. Portland would have cap space coming available if they trade Theo, somebody who is obviously not in their future with Pryzbilla's performance, but Atlanta would not take Theo's contract without enticement of their pick this year. Draft: 1st Pick of Draft - Andrew Bogut Portlands Projected Pick Today #6 - trade down or best PG available vs best athlete available Free Agency: Throw 4-5 year contract after Joe Johnson - give max dollars, but not max years - 4 years and 50 mil - he is great 3 point shooter and aggressive defensively; consider resigning Tyrone Lue to nice size 1 year contract -1 yr 6 mil (way too much, but must overpay to not give multi-year contract) 2005-2005 PG Tyronne Lue/Boris Diaw/PG from Spurs #6 pick SG Joe Johnson/Josh Childress SF Al Harrington/Josh Smith PF Andrew Bogut C Theo Ratlif Reminds of Spurs - two 7 footers, with C defensively minded; draft good PG to develop for 1 year behind Lue and Diaw; deep at 2/3 spot with athleticism; Harrington contact expire next year and Smith will be able to step in and then plenty of money in free agency - keeps team under tax threshold, with youth and experience, no unmoveable long term contracts, keeps all picks; mix of youth I know Bogut is not Duncan, but with his size, athletic strong body and outside shot, he would fit in with Harrington's slashing, post-up ability with Theo's offensive rebound game and Johnson's outside game with athleticism - this team would be sick next year and be set for years to come - all are reasonable moves and would be very accomplishable Thoughts?
  6. Major Trade: http://www3.realgm.com/src_tc_path.php with Trade ID number 2258630 Draft: Andrew Bogut with 1st pick and best available PG with 2nd round pick Off-Season: Re-sign Michael Redd to Max Contract under Larry Bird Terms; Lose Devean George Lineup: PG: Tyronne Lue SG: Michael Redd SF: Keith Van Horn PF: Carlos Boozer C: Andrew Bogut 6th Man: Josh Smith and Josh Childress Why: The trade gives us value for our pending free agents, as no players will sign with us due to our poor performance. With the trade, we will acquire Van Horn and Redd, but to keep Redd, will have to go over the salary cap for one year, b/c having Van Horn will allow us to have a big time contract to trade next year for a PG as well as not rush Josh Smith. Redd will resign for max with us, especially if draft Bogut and have Boozer as bright future. Will lose Devean George to free agency. Thoughts?
  7. Hawks Trade - Boris Diaw and Chris Crawford Hawks Receive - Donyell Marshall Toronto Trades - Donyell Marshall Toronto Receives - Boris Diaw and Chris Crawford Why? Atlanta gets more cap room in free agency, but more important shows players they are committed to winning; continually trading to rebuild leaves an impression of not wanting to win in organization; Donyell is experienced big body who bangs and would be great body off bench; Diaw is not really in future plans with Smith, Harrington, Childress, Smith at SG and SF Toronto loses Marshall's 5.3mil contract, but gains Crawfords (3.25 this year, then FA) and Diaws (1.1 this year and next) ~ essentially a negative transaction in cash, but gives them a "free year" of Diaw to develop. Marshall is not playing a huge role on the team anyways and allows team to get younger for a player they will lose in FA.
  8. Atlanta Trades Boris Diaw Antoine Walker 2nd Round Draft Pick Atlanta Receives Ron Artest Anthony Johnson NJ's 5mil Trade Exception Why: Gives them a true All-Star that has a long term contract that is very reasonable (4yr/30mil remaining). This trade makes the team worse for this year giving rookies more playing time and collecting lotto balls. Plus, it still leaves us with room to sign a max contract player this offseason if desired. Anthony Johnson provides a solid back-up with a reasonable contract that may be trade bait to a true contender next year. A lineup with Artest, Harrington, and Smooze is tall, athletic, and thick. Finally, the trade exception becomes huge once the team gets maxed out or becomes competitive and needs to make a trade at the deadline. New Jersey Trades 5 Mil Trade Exception New Jersey Receives Scott Pollard Why? First, the team is maxed out, so the only way to make moves in the offseason is using their mid-level extension. This trade allows them to use their mid level on a more athletic C/PF and add to the team. Imagine next year, Kidd, Carter, Jefferson, Swift, Pollard. Plus, Pollard brings experience and a "banger" for this year to make a push to get that last seed in the east. Indiana Trades Ron Artest Anthony Johnson Scott Pollard Indiana Receives ATLs 2nd Round Pick Boris Diaw Anthony Walker Why? Needs another scorer after losing their number 1 scorer in Artest this season. Guarantees they get some talent from Artest, plus the Hawks 2nd Round Pick should be the first pick in the 2nd round, so essentially get 1st Round Talent without guarantee contract. Finally, they like Harrison at C, so gives him more playing time without Pollard. Also, Bird has always admired Walker's game, and if he can put up numbers like he did vs the Heat last night, he would be a great addition to this team. Thoughts?
  9. Sorry the trade format got messed up- Atlanta Trades- Walker Diaw Atlanta Receives- 10 mil Nets Trade Exemption Carlos Arroyo Utah Trades - Carlos Arroyo Utah Receives- 5 mil Nets Trade Exemption 1st Round pick from LAC via NJ NJ Trades - Brian Scalabrine 10 and 5 mil Trade Exemptions 1st round Pick from LAC NJ Receives- Jim Jackson Antoine Walker New Orleans Trades- Jim Jackson New Orleans Receives- Brian Scalabrine Boris Diaw
  10. Billy Knight needs to pull the trigger on a Walker trade sooner than later, as he will get more value farther away from the trading deadline. Propose 4-Way Deal: Atlanta Trades: Atlanta Receives: Antoine Walker Carlos Arroyo Boris Diaw Nets 10mil Trade Exemption New Jersey Trades: New Jersey Receives: 10mil Trade Exemption Antoine Walker 5mil Trade Exemption Jim Jackson 1st Round Pick from LA Clippers (2005 top 14 protected, 2006 unprotected) Brian Scalabrine New Orleans Trades: New Orleans Receives: Jim Jackson Boris Diaw Brian Scalabrine Utah Trades: Utah Receives: Carlos Arroyo 5 mil Nets trade exemption 1st Round Pick from NJ via LAC Why the trade goes down? Atlanta will not want to resign AW as he will eat up all their capspace this year and years in the future; this trade gets them a quality, cheap PG with some height (6' 2), as well as keeps their capspace this summer. NJ goes after the trade as they will not have capspace for a free agent signing for a while; this trade allows them to go over cap limit and resign Walker this summer, and shows Kidd they are serious about winning. Next years starting lineup could be potent with Kidd, Carter, Jefferson, Walker, and Collins, and will be competitive with Jackson instead of Jefferson this year. Hornets do the trade b/c they are getting nothing from Jackson now, and they would be getting two young, cheap players. Utah does the trade b/c Arroyo is their 4th string PG being paid 4 mil for 4 years; this trade prevents them from taking up capspace and they pick up a 1st round draft pick, as well as a useful trade exemption that could possibly be used with Harpring to bring them a All-Star via trade. Everyone wins. Atlanta will then be set at PG for the next 4 years at 4 mil per, as it is very difficult to get a PG with some height in the draft (most recent good PG drafted? - PG needs multiple years to develop). This summer, Billy should aggressively go after Michael Redd and offer a max contract if necessary (11-13 mil per year) and draft a big man. Nbadraft.net suggests the Hawks will draft 7' 3 M. Andriuskevicius at #2 (but could also draft other big men). Imagine this 2005-2006 Lineup PG Carlos Arroyo (6'2) - pushes the ball up the court SG Michael Redd (6'4) - opens paint for Smith and Harrington w/ great outside shot SF Josh Smith (6'10) - aggressive attacking the basket PF Al Harrington (6'9) - great in the paint C Draft Pick/Rest of Capspace for Dalembert/Swift This team could be like the Phoenix Suns of the East - up tempo with great outside shooter and players attacking the basket. Plus, will have an exciting bench with Lue at PG, Childress at SG, Donta Smith at SF, a free agent veteran signing at PF, and Radmonavich at C. Wow! Thoughts?
  11. Atlanta Trades: Antoine Walker Chris Crawford Boris Diaw 2005 2nd Round Draft Pick Atlanta Receives: Salmuel Dalembert Nene Hilario Vashon Leonard Glenn Robinson Why: Gives them a great, young frontcourt with toughness that excels in the paint. Will eat up some of the cap-room for this summer, but who wants to come to a team with only Harrington, as Walker will walk. So, Harrington, Nene, and Dalembert, maybe convince free-agent to be Redd to come to Atl and play SG for a young team who needs a sharp shooter to open up the paint for the young frontcourt. And draft a star PG with top 1-3 pick this year. Philly Trades: Glenn Robinson Samuel Dalembert Philly Receives: Antoine Walker Why: Walker worked under O'brien in Boston and he was great. He has been solid this year. They are trying to get rid of Robinson anyways. Denver Trades: Nene Hilario Vashon Leonard Denver Receives: Chris Crawford Boris Diaw 2005 2nd Round Draft Pick Why: Nene is not happy with his playing time. Leonard is hurt and not coming back this year, but has an extra year on his contract. They need a SG like Diaw plus will get capspace with Crawford coming off the books this year.
  12. Memphis Trades: Stromile Swift (S & T) and Earl Watson Memphis Receives: Chris Crawford, Boris Diaw, Tony Delk, 2nd Round Draft Pick Atlanta Trades: Chris Crawford, Boris Diaw, Tony Delk, 2nd Round Pick Atlanta Receives: Stromile Swift (6yr 48 mil) & Earl Watson Why? Atlanta gets more athleticism and height. Memphis cuts payroll, but gets a quality replacement for Swift in Crawford with potential in Diaw and a better backup PG/SG in Delk than Watson. Next BK Signs Keon Clark at 2 yr 6 mil (3.5, 2.5 player option), Jon Barry at 2 yr 5 mil (3.0, 2.0 player option), Kenny Anderson at 2 yr 2.25 mil (veteren minimum). These signings and that trade would max us out in salary cap for this year, but leave us with plenty of flexibility for next year. Why? Signing Swift and Clark allows BK to trade Walker if he deems necessary at trade deadline. Also, gives us the most athletic frontline in basketball. 2004-2005 Team PG - Kenny Anderson, Earl Watson, Royal Ivey SG - Jon Barry, Josh Childress, Donta Smith SF - Al Harrington, Josh Smith PF - Antoine Walker, Stromile Swift C - Pedrag Drobnjak, Keon Clark, Jason Collier To improve for 2005-2006 team, Antoine Walker will be traded at deadline for All-Star SG (possibly Ray Allen) or All-Star PG with us drafting whichever position we do not trade for via such a Walker trade. Then, move Swift into starting lineup. 2005-2006 Team PG - Draft/trade/FA, Royal Ivey SG - Ray Allen, Josh Childress SF - Al Harrington, Josh Smith PF - Stromile Swift, Keon Clark C - Pedrag Drobnjak, Jason Collier This is a deep team like the Pistons that won.
  13. Denver trades: SF Nikoloz Tskitishvili SG Voshon Lenard Denver receives:SG Boris Diaw-Riffiod SG Travis Hansen Why? With Nene, Melo, Camby, and Martin, they no longer need Nikoloz. Plus, with Andre Miller in the backcourt, they could use Diaw's size and tenacious defense. Atlanta trades: SG Boris Diaw-Riffiod SG Travis Hansen SG Donta Smith ~ the rights to him PG Jason Terry PF Alan Henderson PF Chris Crawford 1st Round Philly Pick Atlanta receives: SF Nikoloz Tskitishvili PG Jason Kidd PF Aaron Williams Why? Atlanta takes a huge gamble on Kidd's knees, especially with his large contract. But, would be instant contenders in the new division, especially since Dampier would probably sign on after this trade. Imagine: PG - Jason Kidd -- good penetrator, leader SG - Josh Childress - young, but long and good outside SF - Al Harrington - tough defender, long, inside & out PF - Nikioloz Tskitishvii - great outside shot, long C - Erick Dampier - tough inside, big body With bench - Aaron Williams, Josh Smith, maybe Jon Barry Plus, still not over the salary cap. New Jersey Trades: PG Jason Kidd PF Aaron Williams New Jersey receives: SG Donta Smith PG Jason Terry PF Alan Henderson PF Chris Crawford SG Voshon Lenard Philly's 1st Round Pick via ATL Why? First, Kidd is unhappy and not 100%. Plus, if Mourning doens't play this year, his contract will be up b/c it has an option in place. So, rejoining Arizona buds Terry and Jefferson (signing a huge contract extension ~below the max), they will be huge players in free agency next year. Plus, with 4 additional 1st round picks (from Denver's Martin trade and now from ATL) Imagine if they draft well and are able to land 1 or 2 big names in offseason (great free agency next year). JT, Ray Allen?, Richard Jefferson, Shareef Abdur-Rahim?, and a C ~ they could easily land those guys in free agency and stay under salary cap ~ plus draft well (their picks and their additional 4 1st round picks) ~ could be overly talented in 1 year time like Detroit

    Trade 6!

Indy is trying to trade up to get Luke Jackson (at 7 from Chicago). So, we should say we are planning on taking Jackson and trade #6, #34 and Alan Henderson for Al Harrington, Fred Jones, Scott Pollard and #29. This will cost us 5 million more than keeping #6 and Alan. Then, we go aggressively after Kenyon Martin in free agency and draft a big at 17 (Al Jefferson, David Harrison, Pavel Podkolzine, Robert Swift, etc). Plus, still talent at 29. and our 2 second round picks. This gives Billy Knight a team that will go up and down the court, defend, will be long and athletic and at least exciting next year. Plus, this trade will not damage our caproom for next offseason b/c Pollard, Harrington, and Jones will be going all have 2 years left on contract and will make them good trading assests next offseason to teams trying to get under the cap for the following season. PG - JT (6' 1) SG - Fred Jones (6' 4) / Boris Diaw SF - Al Harrington (6' 9) PF - Kenyon Martin (6' 9) / Chris Crawford C - David Harrison (6' 11) / Scott Pollard Team Salary 42million Thoughts?
  15. Trade 1: (3 Way Deal) Atlanta Trades: JT, Chris Crawford, #17, and #42- Atlanta Receives: #2, Jahidi White , Marko Jiric, Melvin Ely Why: Draft Howard or Okafur, Smith at 6. Then sign Kenyon at almost max. Allows new ownership to fill Philips with 2 Atlanta High-Schoolers, but then surround them with vetern, vocal leadership with Martin but also let kids play and get 1 year experience hoping to be competitive in 1 year. Jiric (6' 7), Diaw (6' 8), Smith (6' 8), Martin (6' 10), Howard (6' 11) - tall team with athletcism but also leaves them with tons of cap room in 2005 offseason to go after Ray Allen, etc (approximately 25mil). LAC Receives: #7, JT LAC Trades: #2, Marko Jiric, Predrag Drobnjak (take on 1 mil addi) Why: LAC get the PG with definite scoring power and saves about 500K if Melvin Ely gets taken by the Bobcats compared to holing onto the 2nd pick, Marko, Predrag, and Melvin. So have plenty of money to go after Kobe or just save the money and still improves team: JT, Kobe?, Corey Magette, Elton Brand, Kaman Phoenix Trades: #7, Jahidi White Phoenix Receives: #17, Chris Crawford, #42 Why? Saves 3.5 million dollars compared to keeping the #7 and White, so gives money to go for Kobe but also keeps a first round pick. At 17, takes Jameer Nelson. JN, Kobe?, Marion, Stoudamire, ?? with Johnson off the bench. Thoughts? Definitely think all 3 teams would go with this.
  16. Here is my suggested plan (all steps necessary): 1. Trade JT, Travis Hensen, the 35th and 43rd pick to Seattle for Jerome James and (4.5 million left on contract this year), 36th pick and their 1st Round pick next year. 2. Trade Alan Henderson and the 38th pick to Phoenix for Jahidi White (5.9 mil this year), Howard Eisley (13.4 mil over 2 years) and their 1st Round pick next year. 2 1/2. Hire Michael Cooper -- former Laker with 3 rings with emphasis on defense and uptempo offense. 3. Sign Kobe Bryant to max contract: 04-05 $14,175,000 05-06 $15,592,500 06-07 $17,010,750 07-08 $18,427,500 08-09 $19,845,000 09-10 $21,262,500 Avg each year is 17.5 4. Sign Kenyon Martin to semi-max contract (more than NJ would give him): start him at 12.5 and give the annual 10% increase of 6 years (about 98 over 6 years: 14 mil in 05-06, etc) 5. Leave Chris Crawford for Expansion Draft - he will be taken - 1 year contract and scrappy player. 6. Draft Josh Smith from Atlanta (will be crowd favorite) at #7 AND Jameer Nelson at #17. 7. Sign Kenny Anderson to 1 year deal worth 1 mil (like he did for Indy this year). 2004/2005 PG - Kenny Anderson/Jameer Nelson/Howard Eisley SG - Kobe Bryant/Boris Diaw SF - Josh Smith/36th Pick this year PF - Kenyon Martin/Jahidi White C - Jerome James/Jason Collier/David Anderson Why would Kenyon and Kobe want to do this? First, this would be a very competitive team in the east (definitely playoffs next year) and they get paid. Secondly, with Smith and Nelson (young studs) with 4 1st round picks (3 of mediocre teams - Seattle, Philly, Phoenix) in 2005/06 and the ending contracts of James and White (trade bait at trade deadline this year to teams out of it), this is a team posed for dominance. Thoughts!
  17. hawks1

    Here we go!

Proposing a 2 year plan for the future: 1. Trade our 1st round Milwaukee pick (18) to Phoenix for their 1st round pick this year and Jahidi White. Phoenix will free up 6 million dollars to throw Kobe's way; imagine Phoenix with Kobe, Marion and Stoudamire (plus Joe Johnson as trade bait for a PG or C). 2. Leave Chris Crawford unprotected for the expansion draft. Alan Henderson will not be picked, while Crawford has only 1 year left on his contract at a pretty reasonable 3.5million for a PF, who has produced lately. 3. Sign Jay Williams. He is a free agent and will not be back next year, but in 2005. Give him a guaranteed 2 year contract with a team option of 2 years, say at 2 million for first 2 years (1 mil each), and then the final two years at 1.5 each. In addition to possibly having a stud in a year, it allows us to use him as PG and trade Jason Terry after next year whose contract is reasonable (front loaded) and will only have 1 year remaining - this is when JT will have his highest trade value. 4. With our pick and Phoenix's now in the first round, pick the two local kids - Dwight Howard and Josh Smith as the SF and PF of our future. These kids will fill Philips next year and won't be that good. We should have a lottery pick next year along with Philadelphia's pick. 5. Make no true moves in this free agency, but in 2005 with Jahidi White's and Alan Henderson's contracts coming off the book, we will have plenty of money to go after T-Mac. Imagine in 2005: PG - Jay Williams SG - TMac SF - Dwight Howard PF - Josh Smith C - trade our picks from the 2005 lottery with JT for a stud This is a very reasonable plan with only this years lottery going our way. We can use our 3 2nd round picks this year to get quality bench players. I think in 2005 we could be competing for a title, especially in the weak division we will be in. Plus, we will not have tons of money invested (just TMac and our C - the others will be reasonable or under rookie contracts). Also, Smith and Howard should be ready to truly perform after 1 year of experience. To think TMac would not want to fill out this team in free agency next year is crazy, b/c it is a young bright future in Atlanta (one of the 3 greatest citys for athletes, plus the best facility).
  18. My proposed plan- 1. Keep falling apart this year. At the rate we are going, if we get the pick in the lottery that corresponds to our record, I believe we will have #2 - take either Okafur (next Duncan possible - noone thought he would be as good as he his - fundamental, smart, cool head, built, determined) or Howard (big upside, hometown boy). 2. Trade Alan Henderson, our #1 pick from Philly in 2005, and our 2nd Round Pick 2005 to Miami for Brian Grant (huge contract, good aggressive, defensive PF - his problem is that he has been asked to play C) and their 2004 2nd round pick in 2004. Miami does this to get more picks and allows them to get rid of big contract and be active in free agency. 3. Trade Jason Terry, Milwaukee's 2004 1st round pick (around 18) and our 2004 2nd round pick to Boston for Paul Pierce. 4. Go after Erik Dampier in free agency - sign to 4 year deal worth 40 million, but frontload it so we can be active in free agency in 2005. So, do 1st year at 12 mil, 2nd year at 8 mil, and 3rd and 4th at 9 and 11. So, right now, have: Starting Lineup: PG - open SG - Boris Diaw (2.5 mil) SF - Paul Pierce (12mil) PF - Brian Grant (12mil) C - Erik Dampier (12mil) Bench: Chris Crawford - PF (3.5mil) Omekafur or Howard - give time to develop (2.5mil) Travis Hansen (1mil) Miami's 2nd round Pick Then, in free agency, go after good role players with 1 year contracts. Allows us to probably get in playoffs in 2005, but still have a 17-19 pick in draft. Furthermore, with Pierce, Grant, Dampier, Diaw (35mil), leaves enough money in 2005 free agency (b/c noone else under contract) to go after Ray Allen at 40 mil over 4 years (back load - 8, 10, 12, 10). Imagine in 2005 season with: PG - Diaw SG - Allen SF - Pierce PF - Grant - with Howard or Omakufur developing C - Dampier -This lineup gives us a defensive, power inside threat with Dampier and Grant, a slasher and scorer at Pierce, and outside lethal shooter with Allen, and an unselfish leader at point with Diaw and youth off bench. Thoughts?
  19. I think Billy Knight has put the Hawks in a very favorable spot. Here are the moves I would make: 1. Trade Boris Diaw, Jason Terry and our 1st round pick this year to Orlando for Tracy McGrady. Orlando makes this trade because get good, cheap talent plus the number 1. They will then have 2 top 5 picks in the draft. Obviously, Atlanta does this for the star the city needs, but also makes them a player in the free agent market b/c makes McGrady gives the city a winning attitude. 2. Trade our 2nd round pick this year to Charlotte for them taking Alan Henderson in the expansion draft. This gives us more cap room. 3. With McGrady, now time to approach Kobe with a max contract. Rumors abound that Kobe and McGrady wouldn't mind playing together. With Kobe and McGrady at max contracts of 14 mil per year, our team can still make more moves. With their 28 mil, we only have Chris Crawford (3 mil) and Travis Hansen (1mil) under contract. 4. Now, with McGrady and Bryant, Hawks need the necessary role players. So, they resign Joel Pryzbilla, Rebraca, and Sura (total of 6 mil) 5. With Milwaukee's pick, go with a point guard. Hawks start whatever PG they draft b/c with McGrady and Bryant, gives the PG time to grow and those guys can help bring the ball up. Further, we still have 2 picks in 05 to further better the team. I know we don't want to trade our #1 and Diaw, but for McGrady and Bryant, you have to make the deals. These deals only work if they are done in this order!

    Hawks Plan

This year we should have a top 3 pick as well as Milwaukee's first round pick. Currently, Milwaukee's pick is 17 and hopefully New York will catch them so that they have 16th pick and we get it (top 15 protected). So, looking at draftcity.com and using the rankings of players entering the NBA next year, with #1 we draft Dwight Howard (can't pass up a hometown youngster - he will put fans in the seats more than anyone else) and with #16 Jameer Nelson (big point guards cause trouble - plus he will provide senior leadership). Furthermore, the Wallace trade was important b/c we should have the top pick of the second round b/c our record should be the worst (with him, maybe we win 7-9 games, without him 2 at most). Now, in free agency, we are aggressive to show that we are a winning franchise, but we are real careful to sign only the cheap - unless Kobe, nobody is worth big bucks and our goal is 2005. During next season, we will have expiring contracts (Henderson and Crawford -- do not give up to Charlotte b/c their expiring contracts are worth more than cap space this year unless Kobe) to pair with Kobe for talent. Furthermore, if Iverson leaves the 76'ers (possible) this offseason, our pick from them will dramatically be better. So, midseason, maybe we package Terry, Henderson, Crawford, and Phillys 1st to Boston for Pierce or to whomever for talent. By that point in the season, without signing any major free agents, we will be poor enough next year to still have a high first round pick and a high second. So, we draft well (a center in both 1st and 2nd round to increase likelihood one is good) and come 2005 look solid. Have Dwight Howard and Nelson with a year under their belt, a stud in Pierce, and then good draft picks. With only Pierce's large contract and young rookies, we are still players in 2005 free agency -- hello McGrady and Allen. Imagine drafting a stud center (or even decent), then having Nelson at PG, Allen at SG, Pierce at SF, Howard at PF, and the center. Watch out. This is the plan. Thoughts?
  21. Atlanta Trades: Rasheed Wallace Atlanta Receives: Corliss Williamson (bad contract - 3 yrs) Darko Milicic Lindsey Hunter Erik Dampier Popeye Jones Golden State Trades: Erik Dampier Popeye Jones Golden State Receives: Bobby Sura Detroit 2nd Round Pick Detroit Trades: Corliss Williamson Darko Milicic Bobby Sura 2nd Round Pick Lindsey Hunter Detriot Receives: Rasheed Thoughts? Hawks get great center and Darko, but have to take on the terrible contract of Corliss Williamson. Maybe Charlotte takes on the contract. Detroit does the deal to get Rasheed and get rid of Williamson. This will allow them to still have plenty of room to resign Okur and then Rasheed. Golden State gets draft pick and cap space.
  22. The next trade that must go down, and it works with the CBA. Boston Gets: Jason Terry Chris Crawford Atlanta's 2004 2nd Round Pick Utah Gets: Stephen Jackson Nazr Mohammed Alan Henderson Dallas 2004 1st Round Pick (via Boston) Atlanta Gets: Greg Ostertag Keon Clark Mike James Chris Mills Why Boston: They give up nothing to get JT (a PG and somebody to score with Pierce). Why Utah: They get cheap Jackson, Nazr is good C, and Henderson probably will get picked by Bobcats. So, essentially get a decent C (no great ones in FA this year) and another 1st round pick. Plus, they will still have plenty of cap space next year (but who wants to go to Utah anyways). Why Atlanta: Well, lets owners, GM, and coach start completely over. They will be in an even better position than Charlotte b/c they are Atlanta, have Diaw, and the full 44 million (hello Kobe, Makur, 1st Round Pick, K. Martin, filler). Plus, get a new coach -- completely start over. Thoughts?
  23. I believe the Shareef/Wallace trade will be great for the Hawks if Knight follows it up with the following trade: Atlanta Trades: Nazr Mohammed Stephen Jackson Chris Crawford Boston Trades: Chris Mills Mike James Atlanta does this to ensure they fall in the standings. I am not convinced we are worse off with the Wallace trade, and remaining in the 8-10 draft range is terrible. With this trade, we will only have contracts of Henderson, Terry, and Diaw in the offseason. Henderson will be great trade bait next year as it is his last year and will provide a team with cap space. In the offseason, Atlanta makes a run at Kobe and offers 12.5 million and the necessary increase of the max contract. With Kobe and a high pick, our roster will be at 27 million. Maybe do a sign and trade for Kenyon Martin with Rasheed at 9 million per year. Draft phenom Howard. Now our roster is 36 million. Then, use the remaining money to take a run at a center. Starting lineup next year: Jason Terry Kobe Bryant Dwight Howard Kenyon Martin Whoever at center, does it really matter with that starting 4 (Kurt Thomas or Marcus Camby at 6mil). To insure Bryant, maybe get Byron Scott as coach. But Rivers works. Thoughts?
  24. Atlanta Trades: Theo Ratliff Shareff Abdur-Rahim Stephen Jackson Chris Crawford Atlanta's 2004 2nd Round Pick Atlanta 1st Round Pick from Philly Atlanta Receives: Darko Millic Drew Gooden Gordon Giricek Elden Campbell Bob Sura (cut) Darvin Ham (cut) Andrew DeClerq (cut) Steven Hunter Keith Boggins Orlando's 2004 1st Round Pick Unprotected Why? Well, we will have plenty of cap room to go after Kobe. Then, wil have 2 of 3 top picks to get Dwight Howard and Omeka Okefor. Those two with Darko, Terry, and Kobe will be potent in the future. Plus, for next year, still ok with Terry, Kobe, Diaw, Gooden, and Campbell not bad. Orlando Trades: Gordon Giricek Dwight Gooden Steven Hunter Juwan Howard Pat Garrity Andrew DeClerq Keith Bogans Steven Hunter Orlando Receives: Shareef Abdur Rahim Lindsey Hunter Mo Williams Atlanta 2nd Round Pick 2004 Atlanta 1st Round Pick from Philly Why? Get Shareef for a star duo of McGrady and Shareef. Then, Lindsey Hunter gives them more capspace in the offseason to get a big guy and some role players. Shareef is better than any player they can get in the draft this year, plus get rid of players who have many years left on contracts and some picks. Detroit Trades: Darko Millic Lindsey Hunter Elden Cambell Bobby Sura Darvin Ham Detroits 1st Round Pick 2004 Detroit Receives: Theo Ratliff Stephen Jackson Chris Crawford Pat Garrity Utah's 2nd Round Pick 2004 Why? Well, they are set. C- Theo Ratliff, Mehmet Okur PF-Ben Wallace, Pat Garrity, Corliss Williamson SF- Stephen Jackson, Tayshaun Prince, Chris Crawford SG-Richard Hamilton PG-Chauncy Billups, Chucky Atkins -Great bench with more scoring and more defensive Utah Receives: Juwan Howard Detroits 2004 1st Round Pick Utah Trades: Mo Williams Utah's 2nd Round Pick 2004 Why? Well, they take on a long contract of Howards, but how many players really want Salt Lake, and it is not huge contract. Plus, they get a 1st round pick this year. I think all teams go for this.
  25. Atlanta Trades: Theo Ratliff, Nazr Mohammed, Terrell Brandon, Stephen Jackson, Alan Henderson, Chris Crawford, Atlanta's 1st Round Pick 2004, Atlanta's 2nd Round Pick Atlanta Receives: Tracy McGrady, Grant Hill, Wesley Person, Jeff McInnis Why Atlanta does this trade? Well, quite obvious, they get Tracy McGrady. However, they take on Grant Hill's contract (which is paid by insurance by 80%, and team takes care of 20%) and give up their first round pick this year. However, could the Hawks get a better player with this years #1 pick. With Wesley Person, have a shooter and also cap relief after this year. (Hawks should later trade Boris Diaw to the Bobcats + 3 million dollars this year for taking Grant Hill's contract. Bobcats only will have to pay the 20% not covered by insurance and then can waive him. He has 42 million over three years left, so 20% is 8 million - 3 million = 5 million -- that is why Diaw is added.) With Terry, Shareef, and McGrady -- watch out. This trade is the big splash the new owners would want to make. Portland Trades: Rasheed Wallace, Damon Stoudamire, Wesley Person, and Jeff McInnis Portland Receives: Theo Ratliff, Terrell Brandon, Juwan Howard, Gordon Giricek, Nazr Mohammed, Tyronn Lue, and Alan Henderson Why Portland does the trade? A front line of Theo, Randolph, and Howard is pretty tough, even for the west. Plus, they get more capspace with Terrell than with Wallace b/c he comes off the books this year (so save further luxury tax this year). Finally, they get Damon's terrible contract out of there also. Moreover, they fans get their wishes by the team ridding themselves of terrible ego Wallace and Stoudamire without giving up picks and young talent like Woods. Orlando Trades: Tracy McGrady, Grant Hill, Juwan Howard, Gordon Giricek, Tyronn Lue Orlando Receives: Rasheed Wallace, Stephen Jackson, Damon Stoudamire, and Chris Crawford, Atlanta's 2nd Round Pick, Atlanta's 1st Round Pick Why Orlando does the trade? Hardest pill to swallow is trading McGrady. But with potential of him leaving at the end of next year, get Wallace for him. Furthermore, ridding themselves of Hill's contract and then Wallace's major cap room and plus get great draft picks from Atlanta this year will make it more palatable. Combine Atlanta's pick with their own, capspace, they could start over and form a great team.
