Did you try to slip that in.  I guess we did technically draft Luka but not sure that qualifies as a 'tie'.

Haha! I’m using “ties” as “something (such as an idea, interest, experience, or feeling) that is shared by people or groups and that forms a connection between them  usually plural”. Regardless of if Luka never played for us, he does have a connection to us since we drafted him. His history includes the Hawks and is something others could use as fact. Same way Carmelo has ties with us when we traded for him, then bought him out. Was he productive as a Hawk… absolutely not. Was he a Hawk… absolutely.  :mmyes:

Team USA looks like a bunch of ISO players … peeps got to buy in and sacrifice their games. Brandon Ingram is complaining about his minutes and not getting enough shots.

Agreed! What’s so funny about this is that the commentators before the New Zealand game mentioned Steve Kerr said USA needs to “run the basketball, share the basketball, and rebound the basketball” to succeed internationally. Not sure if they got the best players on the roster for that style of play.

I'm cool if they just don't like his game, his face, whatever.  But they're supposed to be unbiased.  Elevating guys who's games are similar, but that they just happen to like, is unprofessional.  That's fine too.  I guess they're no longer in the business of 'telling the story', so the old journalistic standards are out the window.

We, as consumers, should stop putting their opinions on pedestals.  The reality is they've dumbed themselves down to the level of common fans, thus they should be treated as such.  We need to start acknowledging the fallacy that what they write is based on some level of understanding that exceeds our own.

    100% THIS! 👆

It wouldn’t surprise me if some players believe their job is done after 82 games and the rest is seen as overtime. I don’t want any players on my team that play just for the paycheck or can’t perform when it matters most. Give me passionate players that meet their childhood heroes on the court and have wet dreams of basketball. That’s where you find hearts of champions.

Didn’t even know these statements existed, but they help prove my point here and make me wonder if DeAndre Hunter is on the other side of this coin (prove me wrong). We NEED to take value in this (not just talent/skill) if we want to win! If you’re bag focused, could care less what happens on the court, and aren’t winning… GTFO! :gtfo:

Posted this in a different Hunter thread (tweets from Pat Bev, Demar Derozan, PG13, and Jeff Teague regarding if players are about basketball), but applies here as well! We NEED to take heart and passion into consideration (not just talent/skill) if we want to win! Sadly (like my quotes post says), it looks like Hunter falls on the other side of the coin and the silent summers aren’t helping his case. 😢

    LOL Goat PG.

    First of all, just no.

Second of all, he's not a PG.   I have this crazy prerequisite where I require the GOAT PG to at the very least lead his own team in APG.

Third, my GOAT PG doesn't struggle to average 7 APG.

    Just cause he's small doesn't mean he's a PG.

Wasn’t this tweet referring to Trae as the GOAT PG since that other franchise player Trae was working out with obviously doesn’t fit that mold 😉? In all seriousness, who’s to say this can’t be true when it’s all said and done if he continues to improve his shooting efficiency (working out with the best) and defense (Quin looks to be unlocking something here) with his already superstar level of play! 🐐

Dr J was in Hawks training camp and played preseason games, but he was drafted by the Bucks.  Interesting story here:

https://www.si.com/nba/bucks/old-school/the-time-julius-erving-almost-joined-the-milwaukee-bucks#:~:text=to the NBA.-,Dr.,Hawks organization from the commissioner.

Yeah, that’s crazy! Although he technically played games for the Hawks, it was preseason and should at least be considered as an honorable mention (unreal). Wow, if you include players that played less than 5 games with the team, I don’t think anyone could build a roster as stacked as this! :whoamg:

PG: Bob Cousy / Luka Doncic / Ty Ty Washington
SG: David Thompson / Kelly Oubre Jr. / Devonte’ Graham
SF: Dr. J / Carmelo Anthony / Rudy Gay
PF: Pau Gasol / Rasheed Wallace / Derrick Favors
C Bill Russell / Wayne Embry / Arvydas Sabonis

    🥇🏆

  8. Seeing this tweet below got me thinking of this thread and the history of the Hawks. Do we have the greatest Atlanta Hawks team of players that never played for us? WARNING, may invoke feelings!!! 🥲

Lemme see… am I missing anybody (looked at both players we drafted and traded for)?

PG: Bob Cousy / Luka Doncic / Ty Ty Washington
SG: David Thompson / Kelly Oubre Jr. / Devonte’ Graham
SF: Carmelo Anthony / Billy Thompson / Rudy Gay
PF: Pau Gasol / Derrick Favors / Usman Garuba
C : Bill Russell / Wayne Embry / Arvydas Sabonis

Honorable Mention: Rasheed Wallace (1 game)

Which team could make a better roster? I think none. 🏆

    1. Kyle Korver - I have to say that his three point shooting more than anything else was the catalyst for our team winning 60 games .

HOT SAUCE!!! So critical for us that year! Wasn’t he flirting with a 50/50/90 season that year (he couldn’t miss)! Threezus!

  10. Most underrated careers that come to mind in no particular order:

    • Nique. Period. (the most underrated and overlooked career in sports history).
    • Manu Ginobili. His craftiness, competitiveness, and versatility was the heart and glue to that dynasty. Tim was the quiet superstar, Pop was the brains, and Tony was the drive. Every dynasty needs a Manu and their success is questioned without him.
    • Andrei Kirilenko (AK-47). Ahead of his time. One of the greatest defensive impacts to ever play the game. His offense would’ve excelled in today’s game.
    • Grant Hill. Health hindered, but even afterwards, he was an impactful versatile player with a high BBIQ. Was underappreciated when he didn’t live up to being the next MJ (the new face of the league).
    • Trae Young. Yes his career is still young, but seeing inferior players propped up over him by the league, media, and fans is a disservice to the game (P.E.R.I.O.D). Trae should be receiving least the same if not more recognition than Luka for what he’s doing. If he adds his defensive pestiness to his game (like he started with Quin last season) and continues his current trajectory, he should be considered as the GOAT PG under 6’9” (top 10 player)!

  11. These aren’t in any order, but these 5 first come to mind when thinking of who’s overrated:

    • Russell Westbrook: All those triple double seasons of teammates jumping out of the way so he could pad his stats. He’s since been found out, but at the time he was touted as better than Oscar Robinson (who could also potentially be considered overrated if he padded his stats as well, but can’t say since I didn’t watch him play). Yuck!
    • James Harden: More made free throws than field goals. Give me a break!
    • Yao Ming: Could never stay on the court in the NBA (sad), but had LARGER THAN LIFE  hype and still retained his HUGE fanbase.
    • Kobe Bryant: Way too inefficient as a #1 option. Padded stats in his final years as his teammates watched him chuck up shots. Amazing in his prime (with Shaq), but his growing ego was his downfall. One of the greats, but not too 10 all time worthy.
    • Kawhi Leonard: Spurs gem that most touted as a future superstar once it was his turn. Although all the tools are there, health is the issue. Hasn’t played more than 60 games in a season since 2016.

Too early to call their careers overrated, but are currently:

    • Ja Morant (amazing team that plays better with him off the court)
    • Zion Williamson (health issues)
    • Jalen Brunson (Knicks’ lack of PG talent over the years have him looking like a GOAT haha)
