  1. Draft Express:

-Sergio Rodríguez’s season is officially over after his 8th seeded Estudiantes team was swept by #1 seed Unicaja Malaga 3-0 in the first round of the Spanish ACB league playoffs. It was not because of a lack of effort on Rodríguez’s part, though, finishing the playoffs averaging 18.7 points and 5.3 assists in 28 minutes per game on 55% shooting from the field and 42.5% shooting from behind the arc (with a solid 4 attempts per game). Those are absolutely unheard of numbers for a 19 year old player in the best domestic competition in Europe. According to his agent Herb Rudoy, Rodríguez will be on his way to the States shortly where he will work out only for the NBA teams that are showing the most interest in him in the first round.

i think he'd be a great fit here... but he still has a lot of developement to do. If we can trade down, i'd love to have him.

Diaw looks fantastic for Phoenix but that wouldn't have happened here for other reasons. Oh well... can't dwell on it. This tells me that BK kind of knows what he is talking about.

BK obviously know how to obtain talent, but we don't have that great of a coaching staff to do much.

He's a defensive minded legit 4. He will come in and produce but yet he's improved so much that you can see him continuing to improve. Played in the ACC and domiated. He reminds me a lot Carlos Boozer (pre injuries). Plus he's not a SF. Yep...I'm hoping we get Landlord (or Marcus Williams b/c next years pg draft may be even worse than this one).

LOL, next yr's draft is gonna be sick, tooo bad we won't have any picks.

Al still didn't take minutes away from Marvin.

Since you believe that Smoove is a PF.. Why not have him come off the bench behind Al and Marvin could have started ALL year??

what you don't want to admit is that Smoove took time from Marvin Not Al. Smoove was the only one playing both positions.

did u not see me say that AL's game resemble a SF game much more than Smith??

Comment: Al never took one minute from Marvin because Marvin doesn't play PF.

um idiot, even though AL's listed position is "PF" he played a much of his game shooting jumpshots. He has no interior D and plays better defense on the perimeter. Whenever AL left the game, smith would take over as PF and Marv would play SF. So yes i think he did take quite a bit of minutes away.

It's got you confused as to what interior defense is "good" and what isn't.

...on this we may just have to disagree. There aren't any Pfs 6'9" or shorter AND 225 lbs or lighter listed in the top 10 Pfs for a reason and I wouldn't guess it's because they usually play such good defense on their taller, bigger, in this case more interior skilled counterparts.

    i think smith's a bit more than 225.

I hear what you're saying and it's a shame. After Jason Terry the Free Agent PG's take a severe drop off the cliff. There's certainly not an upgrade from Lue available in free agency (again, other than Terry). Who will trade us a PG? Marcus is as ready as Paul. Knight may not be the best judge in talent when it comes to PGs anyway. Watch him be a dumbass and select Morrison so we have another SF/SG to stockpile.

no, He is definitely NOT as ready as Paul.

"based on that scouting report, he seems to have plenty stamina for a big guy."

^I'm just looking at his body. He looks thin and a little soft to me right now in terms of making an immediate impact. I think he'll be a good pick for someone who can invest some time in letting him develop and get stronger. I think he could become stronger and more explosive with some real NBA training and a little more time.

hmm, i just read something about the CBA, that they don't release their players until they are 22. He's set for the 2009 draft.

Thanks, that was pretty interesting. If he's around in the second round I'd definitely take him (but I wouldn't count on it). He still looks like he's a little ways away to me in terms of strength and conditioning, but he's agile and can jump for a 7-footer.

base on that scouting report, he seems to have plenty stamina for a big guy.

  10. according to NBAdraft.net he's still growing and projecting to be like 7-2

WOW CAN U IMAGINE A CHINESE DIRK????

sry, i can't help it, im from hk

Strengths: Unlike other Chinese big men like Yao Ming or Wang Zhizhi, Yi is extremely athletic ... very good body type, long arms and big hands ... hasn't stopped growing yet, is projected to reach 7-2 ... great stamina ... nice ball handler and passer, some say he's able to play all 5 positions ... he has great speed at running the floor, jumps really quick and can dunk 360s ... amazing rebounder, anticipates well ... great defender, excellent shot blocker ... left hander with decent range ... develops more and more low post skills, like a jump hook ... intelligent player, knows how to use his physics ... battled fellow Draft prospect Ha Seung-Jin to a standstill, although Ha has almost three years, three inches and 70 pounds on Yi ... at the age of 15 he literally dominates 18-19 years old players, as he did at the Junior World Championships in Greece ... if you think of how good he'll be by the time he enters the NBA Draft (likely 2006 or later), it's hard to image he'd be something other than the first pick overall

Weaknesses: Still raw, because he didn't play organized basketball till the age of 13 ... has to learn the fundamentals of the game ... unpolished yet, especially on the offensive end ... needs to refine his post moves ... too thin to hold a place in the paint, needs to develop muscles ... questions about his real age, some say he was born in 1985

so basically, he's just a little thin and raw.

Listen everyone is missing the point here.

    SMITH IS THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know he is improving he is going to be the best we won more games because of him. Yet, he has his flaws. If you watch the games you will see he passes up the open man sometimes for his own shot. If he hasn't shot the ball in awhile during the course of the game he jacks it up real quick. I know twice last night the Hawks crossed half court one pass to Smith and he jacked a three didn't make either one. Still 18 secs on the shot clock. I feel he needs to improve shot selection and look for the open guy a little bit more.

This is not a knock on him. Everyone seems to be taking this personally. Watch all of the games and dispute what I say. Yes, his assists went up. Yes, he hit big 3's. All this is great. However, he still makes mistakes and that is all I am pointing out. I would like to see him improve on these aspects of his game.

umm no buddy, u are pointing out a CHARACTER FLAW

I mean he dosen't get critized for anything bad he does here on hawksquawk like every other player on hawks.

    Why is that??

i think it's because of the progress he's made, it has surprised so many of us that it overcomes the mistakes he makes. Seeing how much he's grown as a player, we all hope that's just part of the growing pain.
