The source cleared me to reveal the name of the superstar.

    It is Giannis.

I am not saying it is going to happen but it is being discussed and it depends on if Giannis wants to come to Atlanta. This is from my source and from @NBASupes source.

It also leaves the option to trade for BI and the team would look roughly something like:

    Trae

    Bogi/Kobe

    Ingram/Hunter

    Giannis

    OO

The longer  version of what I've heard can come down to three options for our roster:

The above option, the "Push All The Chips In" is what I call it. We will be a  good team, no question, but with a scary future with no firsts for a long time.

    2nd Option:

We trade Murray and AJ  to NO for BI and the Lakers 2025 unprotected first

We keep Trae. We do NOT trade for Giannis. We use the #1 pick on Sarr.

    Team would be:

    Trae

    Bogi/Kobe

    Ingram/Hunter

    Sarr/either Capela or OO

    3rd option:

We blow it all up. SAS have offered 4, 8 and all our picks back for Trae. We move him. We keep the #1 pick. We move Murray not to the Pelicans but to the Pistons or another team I've been told not to mention that has picks/young guys.

    Roster would be:

(this is my postulating at possible draft results)

    Reed Sheppard

    Bogi/Kobe

    Hunter/#8 pick in this draft

    Sarr/OO

We have all our picks back as well as picks and young guys from moving Murray to either the Pistons or mystery team.

Which option do you guys and gal prefer? I think the 3rd option is the best one but the 2nd option is more safe. The first option MIGHT win us a title...but then we'll be in purgatory for years with no draft picks.

If someone can make a poll with these three options, please do so, you have my blessing. These are the three big scenarios the Hawks FO is discussing now and in the upcoming time to the draft.

Thanks, Sothron. This is great insight.

What causes us to choose one scenario over the other? Is the biggest swing factor Trae's desire to be here? Or Tony's desire to play the LT? Or maybe Landry's risk tolerance for a massive swing? All are obviously necessities for scenario 1, but I am curious as to what the biggest internal sticking point right now.

Appreciate your intel as always. Makes being a Hawks fan a lot more fun when they continue to underperform on the court.

  2. I think it is fair to get a bit of a callout on the thread title - that’s on me. If it was simply that fact alone, it would be a nothing-burger.

To me, this is the first time where I think it very well might make sense to trade him, and I might actually prefer it simply because we have an increased risk of holding the bag (opt out or demanding a trade) alongside an accelerated rebuild plan now we are armed with #1 pick. I really like Trae and think he is elite.

I don’t view it as rampant alarm-ism… the calculus has changed, and combine that with his unusual silence, more direct feedback from him on not accepting where we are and more seemingly credible reporting on trades, it is noteworthy. Not saying I know anything conclusively, but these data points altogether mean something to me.

My best case scenario is he stays, FWIW. But we cannot ignore the risks of him pulling out the rug from under us.

  3. I have never bought into the notion of Trae being on the move… he has seemed loyal to ATL, and the decision to ship him off somewhere has never made sense. However, now it actually does with two years left before his player option, and he could leave for nothing.

Trae’s silence in the midst of one of the luckiest moments in Hawks history alongside true NBA folks saying he might be on the move have me thinking he actually may not be on the roster next season. Hard to believe, but I think we are here.

  4. Sothron, I very much understand the chain of events if you are Trae... but if Ressler gets the sense that Trae might walk, I think he might look to sell the team before that happens if it is something he is eyeing to do in general. It would be a good exit point relative to a huge rebuild and Trae puts butts in the seats.

And hopefully, with Ressler selling the team, it could be enough to keep Trae on and blame the team building issues on Ressler (which isn't too far fetched from a LT perspective).

Been around long enough. I don’t get too high or too low. You should know this about me by now. I just try to get as much info as possible from the insiders to put two and two together.

What do you mean not JTB?….ive never shared an upset post about a big trade not happening. I’ve shared post on idiotic trades such as the JC and Huerter give away.

as I stated above I just want to get as much info as possible from the insiders.

Ive been following the hawks for decades and been on this board longer than what my actual join date shows. Any true hawks fan knows that this franchise never pulls off big trades but that doesn’t meant there’s no conversations taking place in the background.

for me sometimes just reading some positivity that the FO is even trying to get better provides a little peace. Like hearing about the high interest and serious talks about KAT is great!…we know it ain’t happening but I believe the insiders sources that the FO tried it lol

Total misunderstanding!! I just meant it like “I am not JTB, but…” because the original post was directed to you, not me.

I know you have been here a long time and are very level headed and knowledgeable. Hopefully that clears it up!

You are aware these things are extremely fluid right?

Not JTB, but there is an overall acknowledgment that things are fluid… just trying to understand how to gauge expectations based on the chatter.

While I am not a big poster, I’ve been here since 2006 (I had to look to check!) and have seen enough to know both that our insiders have unique insight and also that nothing is done until it’s done.

This seems really early for a big trade.  Usually teams wait until the deadline to try to do better.  Not saying you haven’t heard this is close or that the Hawks hope to close on a deal ASAP or whatever - just that I’m skeptical whether something happens this early.  If we do, hope we knock it out.

All things being equal, I agree.

But the DJM experiment isn’t working and it is palpable. There is collective pressure to come to a resolution sooner rather than later as both parties aren’t happy. This isn’t simply an exercise (like usual) where the team’s sole aim is to extract as much value as possible which traditionally necessitates waiting until the 11th hour.

Thankfully, DJM is a valuable player on a good contract, so the timing shouldn’t suppress the overall return to the Hawks.

I think it would need to be Capela, Gay, Bey, Sac 1st, 2029 1st.

Sorry, I meant to include Gay as I know that's required to make it work.

I'd try to get away with not sending out the 2029 1st or at the very least make it a future 2nd... I imagine his contract will be very difficult for any team that acquires him.

  9. I might be in the minority, but I don’t think DJM fits in well enough with Trae over the long-term. I love that he is a legit #2 scorer, but he has been disappointing on the defensive end, and we need shooting wherever we can get it.

If Jaylen Brown wants out of BOS, any shot of a Brown-for-DJM trade? I don’t see how adding Brown alongside Trae and DJM helps our club - you can’t create  enough touches for either of them to reach their potential.
