Landry says 10 days before the draft, they want to keep the pick. Isn't that a strategic thing to say? Like they want teams to think we value the pick, right? GMs use the media strategically, not to show you the cards they are playing.
Even if they plan on trading the pick, you always public face by saying you are going to keep it and use it. You have to play the game with the media. they know this. They have a plethora of draft boards and options lined up depending on what happens with trade offers or just flat out using the #1 pick and that's that.

This guy is a fantastic defender! This is different than when Hunter was at UVA. Hunter was a good positional defender, but he never racked up blocks and steals like Dunn. Dunn is a defensive playmaker. He's the type of guy you want hounding perimeter players and giving you secondary rim protection. You get Clingan and Dunn, and teams are going to struggle to score against this team.
Dunn is the best POA defender in the draft. He also has elite athletic measurements as well. The only problem is he can't shoot at all. If we got him and could surround him with shooters for the spacing and just had him attack the basket with cuts it would make sense.
Clingan and Dunn would frankly change our entire team's identity. That's the two best defenders in this draft at our two weakest defensive positions.

Tbf I said star not necessarily Lauri. Utah is in a tough spot. They should blow everything up and just tank but they want to be competitive and try and rebuild. It is hard to do that. Trading Lauri with Danny running that franchise would be costly. I like Lauri as a player but he's the same position as Jalen. I don't think he's worth the cost to acquire.

I cannot speak about workouts. Complete ban on sharing that.
Sarr very much wants to go to the Wizards. He wants to go a place where there is no pressure on him finding a position to fit into the NBA with and allowing him to grow and make mistakes along the way.
The Hawks are not that place. So yes, he is being steered to the Wizards or another situation like that.
Thankfully the Hawks hold all the cards. We can absolutely threaten any team with the #1 pick to simply take whoever they want and hold them hostage for a package. Or simply take a guy that has value/interest and make a separate trade to get into the lottery to get who we want ie Clingan.

Any truth to these Zach langley tweets @Sothron?
Yes. All I can say. I full expect either a trade down to get Clingan, trade for star or taking Clingan #1.

Any chance at a starter and a high pick for #1?
More likely two picks in this draft. Spurs and Portland.
I also expect the following players to be ex-Hawks before next season:
Murray
Hunter
Capela
AJ

Clingan is more than a defensive player. His offensive metrics are actually really good. You guys that are so fixated on Sarr need to give Clingan a fair appraisal. He even was shooting almost 70% from the FT stripe his last 16 games in college so his shooting is getting better.
I think we are more likely to trade down than to stay at #1. There are several teams now calling us about the #1 pick with real trade interest. This is exactly what the FO wanted: real interest in #1 which they could use to get good deals.

you guys honestly have no idea how much our sources are putting the squeeze on us. They check these boards. If I say something that I've been told to keep quiet I lose that access. I wish I could tell you guys and lady all the juicy bits but I can't.
There's a lot and I mean A LOT of different directions this franchise can go and all of those options are very, very much on the table.

I've went from being shocked if Trae got traded this summer to surprised if he got traded this summer. I can't say more than that.

If we trade down for 4 and 8, and I stress if, there would be another trade lined up with Houston to get up to #3 so we could take Clingan. #4 and AJ for #3 is fair value.

I would be shocked if they trade #11.

I cannot speak for the other insiders but the Hawks are extremely tight lipped on work outs and how the workouts turn out. If I were to say anything about them I would lose my sources. It is that secret. The Hawks are in full blown lockdown mode when it comes to the draft. What I am being told in private is what I am keeping private.
What I can say though is we have some smart basketball people in the FO, the scouting area and our HC. Whatever they do with the pick or who we walk away with after the draft is going to be heavily researched and debated about among all the voices that matter.

I wasn't supposed to say this but since Mikey has...we've already had one workout with Sarr and another is going to happen. I'm still hearing it is Risacher and Clingan/Sarr after.

If we keep the pick I want Sarr. I think the FO is guilty of overthinking this. I'm not letting current roster guys keep me from taking who I think the best player will be if he hits and that's Sarr.

Sarr is more Evan Mobley than anyone else. Mobley would be the no brainer #1 pick in this draft if he was in it.

I have to add that if you doubt our FO at least give some credence to what Quin wants on his roster. He's a genius, literally, and he has developed players into superstars if they had the chops. If he is really high on any player it is enough for me, frankly, as a die hard fan that he knows what the hell he is doing.

FWIW I'd rather take Sarr and use him like Mobley and Chet.

Also, if they trade down with the intent to take Clingan and end up not getting him because they moved down too far, it’s even worse.
Assuming this is the plan which I also think it is...they will simply take Clingan first if they can't get other trades lined up.

The idea that Sarr is telling teams are top that he wants to go to Washington sounds like a convenient excuse for the Hawks to justify taking Clingan over him.
This is accurate from what I have heard. Hawks have Risacher higher. But I'm starting to really think Clingan is the real target.

To comment on what @thecampster posted earlier: I am just passing along what I'm hearing. More accurately, I'm passing along what I've been cleared to say in public. I'm sure the other two guys have things told them to keep it to themselves.

I'm so relieved Luka lost so we don't have to hear, forever, how he got a title before Trae did.
