  1. If we had some young athletic dogs with size I think we would be Ok with our backcourt.  A backup point could be used if Bufkin isn't ready. As is i can't see us improving much from last year without another consistent scorer and a real big. How tall is OO really 6'8'', 6'9'' or 6'10''. I've seen all three.

  2. Hawks lack of size, post presence and rim protection shows up when they are dominated by an undersized center. To become more competitive in the east they must address the front court.    JJ and DH have to become consistent scorers. What would really help is if one can become a twenty pt scorer or if they can acquire a front court scorer.

Hawks are at their best when pushing pace and moving the ball. Less dribbling more passing. It's early Quin is working on it.

  3. Trae needs to learn that his dominating the ball isn't the only way for the team to get assist. The ball can get assist with energy and movement. I think that is what Q is trying to teach Trae but he continues to think that the team can't win without him dominating and shooting the ball. Winning at a high level will never happen playing like this. I just don't see it Nor do I see Trae changing. He is use to being the hero. Let the Hawks score 4 or 5 times down the court you can bet Trae is going to shoot soon as he gets the ball, even if it's at the logo. Come on !

Q has his work cut out for him.

Has there been a top 5 pick in the past 20 years who completely sucked or rarely played during their rookie scale contract and then came back to have a good career?  I can't think of one.  I think it's telling when a top 5 pick can't seem to get on the court... the drafting team has every incentive to help them be productive... in these situations, I'm willing to bet they either can't play, can't stay healthy, or don't have the drive to be the best that they can be.  Keep in mind that covid hit hard during Wiseman's class, so teams had precious little information to evaluate those players, which creates even more unpredictability with projecting those guys.  I sure as hell don't think a team that's trying to compete should shell out $12 million for the very slim chance that Wiseman is the exception to the rule.  Easy pass for me.

What are the Hawks competing for. A 500 record maybe the play in. Let's get realistic about this team. We have't did anything to improve the roster since last year. So why should I expect more.I hate to say it but we're average at best.

  5. No what we have is trash with little upside. We are not going to win with Capela, OO, and especially Bruno . If you can get him cheap why not. Where else can we get a big especially cheap. If the League knows something about him then move on, but we can't make it around the corner with our current bigs no less than a championship or division final. The only one who think the Hawks are good are homers who live in Atlanta. The league for sure doesn't !!!

  6. The Hawks  played themselves by over valuing their players. It is disappointing that they couldn't at least get a first round pick. Look at what happened with Bradley Beal.  The Hawks were never as good as they thought they were. They mismanaged this situation from the ECF, to struggling to get into the playoffs and now wondering how they will compete. Get creative Landry or we are rebuilding and Trae is gone

  7. The difference in wins btw Okc and the Hawks is one or two games. The Hawks are a five hundred team stuck in the middle with salary cap issues and an unstable core having traded draft picks, wondering where they you go from here. Okc has caught the Hawks basically in wins with loads of  draft picks and salary cap moving forward. We don't have the picks ,personel or cap space to drastically improve the team to compete for a champioship. Yes you have to manage the assets moving forward but I would take Okc's hand over the Hawks any day of the week.  Jumped the gun or over reacted to the ECF I see as one and the same and as far as depth  Okc has the assets to go out and build their depth  thru trade or free agency. With the new CBA small market teams will have a better chance to bring in top tier free agents or solid vets. This topic again is about the acquisition of players not the management of them.  Okc may miss on some picks but they have the picks to swing again again. The Hawks are  stuck with over valued assets which we will have to unload for next to nothing to get under the salary cap.

I've been a Hawk fan since 1982. I'm not going to defend  first round exits out of the playoffs anymore. How about competing for championships.  My expectations are higher.

Now we are stuck in the middle trying to get out. There is no worse place to be in the NBA than being stuck in the middle having traded first round picks and stuck with salary cap issues with a new CBA. Good luck Landry I hope you can pivot from here or else we will be back in rebuild. I'm just tired/ over consolation prizes.

  8. OKC had what one or two less wins than the Hawks . Looks like they have caught the Hawks. My main premise is the acquisition of ball players not the management of them for this topic. As far as management OKC is always going to have a hard time keeping high level talent. Point being they know how to acquire top level talent. I've been a Hawk fan a Iong time and I never remember the Hawks having a team with as much talent as Westbrook,Harden and Durant at one time . I would love to see the Hawks with a young roster like OKC's with draft capital and cap space and Quin Snyder as the coach. Give me the talent and hopefully we'll learn how to manage it.

  9. Hopefully the change in coaching will bring about a growth but my main concern is player acquisition. Rebuilds need to maximize their rosters thru the draft. Hopefully someone out of AJ,JJ OO, and KB can become a star but I would bet on OKC's roster shaking out a star over the Hawks.

The Hawks needed a couple more swings at the Lottery before trading draft picks and Huerter. They were close but by trading for DM they end up giving up their 3pt shooting and roster flexibility.

I pesonally like DM I just think they made the trade way to early, when they hadn't secured their core yet.

  10. The Hawks jumped the gun and lost sight of the rebuild by making it to the ECF. Now they are stuck with a ton of middle of the road players and a middle of the road record. To make it worse they are paying them as if they are top tier ballplayers. Now we have middle of the road draft picks and a salary cap working against us.

Check out OKC's roster. They have size, youth, guards, forwards, and centers all with upside/high ceilings. Top that off  with a slew of draft picks which gives them the chance to trade for the vets they need. This is a team poised to make a jump soon.

OKC is playing the rebuild game right . I hope the Hawks haven't mishandled this opportunity  but it doesn't look good.

  11. Don't forget , Dariq Whitehead !!!  One of the top freshmen entering college this year until injures occurred.  Could be the additional star  the Hawks  are missing.  Can he be an upgrade to DH?

Size  and physicality is something the Hawks absolutely  need. Lively has size not , I am not adversed to taking him I just wonder if he is physically ready for the NBA.

I wish Daniel Gafford was available  to address our size and physicality issues.
