Let's put it this way - other teams aren't blind - Smoove will be maxed...let's just hope it's by the Hawks (and that JS isn't into dog fighting

    Ew, cheap shot...

Well, ASG took a GIGANTIC risk not giving Smoove his money in the offseason, and if Smoove continues to play like he has recently, he indeed will probably command max money. It's possible. Question is, how much will he command, and how much is the ASG committed to building a winner?

He has to be able to hit the outside shot though if they play off of him. If he is knocking down his outside shot he would be absolutely devastating but when he isn't and teams realize that they will sag off and collapse the paint and then we have real trouble scoring. That's why Lue made an impact tonight and allowed us to move the ball effectively in the half court.

I know. That is why I started to say that if Acie came in and routinely knocked down open shots and layups when opportunities presented themselves, we likely wouldnt be having this discussion; and thus, there would be no need for this thread.

But, the fact of the matter is, Acie's shots have not been falling yet (they will soon enough) and he still doesnt really take a whole lot of shots. So when he DOES come in, there really is no offensive upgrade (yet).

Thus, Lue gets the burn tonight.

You guys really must not realize what a liability he is on the Defensive end. And how can you justify not giving our future, Acie, more than 5 minutes after a 9 assist effort LAST GAME???

Lue almost helped us give this one away in the fourth.

Oh, I am one of the BIGGEST critics of Lue here, especially when it comes to his nonexistent Defense. Lue played well tonight given what he can do (and what he can't), but Acie STILL should have played more than the 5 mins.

Pretty soon, Acie is just going to have to be trusted to take the reigns when he gets good minutes. Let's hope Acie gets more than 15 mins against the Lakers...

Yup thats exactly how I feel as well. I usually cringe when I see him not in street clothes but he made a difference tonight.

I'm with you on this one. I usually trash T Lue for his incessant pounding and quick-to-chuck ability, but he was one of the main reasons we pulled away with a win tonight...

However, I hope this does NOT give Woodson great incentive to play T Lue 20 mins every game for the next several games at Acie's expense...

  5. I sure hope J Smoove is our future. We will rue the day if he leaves the Hawks after this season. Plain and simple. If one of our forwards needs to go, it needs to be Marvin, not J Smoove. If Smoove continues to take his game to the next level, play within himself, stay away from the 3 pt line, and play better man defense, he will be an All Star in the next year or two.

Remember, we complained and complained that he took too many perimeter shots and wasn't playing near the basket enough...it looks like he is playing more to the basket recently. And boy has it paid dividends.

J Smoove is a Georgia native, our main attraction, and an up-and-coming star. After all, he is our "Highlight Factory."

Man what a comeback by our team. It sure looked like Philly was going to have 100 rebounds in a blowout win.

Yeah, no kidding. One thing about these cats is that they dont quit...

Big props to the team and Woody in the game so far. (I'm a little behind you guys on the feed).

  7. Yeah, thanks. Although I thought it was something else.

Man, can these guys have ONE game where they close it out instead of making things interesting in the end? Just curious.

Joe looked awful on the bench...he is clearly hurting bad. Now he has to come back in because we let them back in the game. Although, I attribute the Sixers' recent surge to our nonexistent interior defense.

  8. I am posing a simple query:

Is it worth it if the Hawks limp into the playoffs as the 7th or 8th seed only to be blown out in the playoffs AND Woody gets a contract extension?

The tone of this question is not nearly as inflammatory as you will likely make it out to be. I am posing a serious question so give me a serious answer. I would love for the Hawks to make the playoffs, and with so many calling for Woody's head, would those of you calling for it rather have them miss the playoffs and either Woody or Woody AND BK get fired?

Remember, it is either or. Let's assume that the ASG will NOT fire Woody IF they make the playoffs for the sake of the question. So let's hear it!

He will be the guest on Jim Rome is Burning tomorrow (Tuesday) at 4:30 pm on ESPN. I didn't know if you guys knew this already, but I just thought I would post it.

    Cheers.

You think that, just maybe, Rome will mention the 2005 draft?

That could be a rough interview.

Yeah, I bet he does. Knowing him, it will probably be the first thing out of his mouth. Hopefully Jim won't act like a prick for once and conduct a decent interview.

With that said, I look forward to hearing what Marvin has to say. Unfortunately, I will be in my Negotiations class, so can you guys summarize what he says? I would very much appreciate it.

We're in position to make the playoffs. We're holding on, not because of what Atlanta is doing, but what the other

teams in the east are not doing. We keep losing, but

    so do they.

This is the REAL crux of the issue. Had the East been even halfway decent this year, the Hawks would have no hope of even sniffing the playoffs. To be playing terribly inconsistent and poor basketball for the vast majority of the year and still have a shot at the playoffs is a dubious conundrum in itself.

Woodson is not the answer for this team--the Hawks, with all the talent they have, will never make it to the next level with him at the helm. Yeah, they may LIMP into the playoffs this year, but what good is that if it means grabbing the 7th or 8th seed only to be straight owned and killed in the first round with Woodson getting an extension? We have not sniffed the playoffs in 8 years--the longest drought in the NBA. If we do barely make them (hell we would now if it started today even though we are 4 games under .500), Woodson would have done something no other previous Hawk coach has done in 8 years.

Making the playoffs is nice, but NOT if it means Woody gets an extension. He needs to be fired before the All Star break concludes...but it will probably never happen.

  11. Agreed. Funny thing is, the Hawks WERE double teaming Roy quite a bit during the first half which allowed us to contain him during that time. However, we got away from that as well and didnt play suffocating defense like we did in the first half. Hmm, I wonder who makes those defensive calls...
