  1. Came up with a trade that I think helps both teams. @Sothronhas said the Wolves will struggle with cap once Kat's new deal kicks in next year. With the way they are playing they are unlikely to move Kat. I'm of the mind to make this two guard lineup work you need a center that can shoot. Capella clogs the paint which keeps DJ and Trae from getting to the paint. See Lively vs Dallas. If the trade us Reid they get a win now player that still stretches the floor but with a contract that expires freeing up ~13m when Kat's new desk kicks in. Matthew's is an expiring that is a salary filler. I would even throw in second if we needed to, but I think this is fine as is. You can play him with Capela and Onyeka interchangeably. What's Reid's availability insiders? What do you think will Minny go for it?

  2. I was at the game tonight. Some of the worst defense I've ever seen on a NBA court. There were so many olay defensive plays in this game. Very embarrassing and shame on Quinn for not having a defensive gamelan for Luka. With Kyrie out he should have been doubled the entire game. I told my brother surely in the second half we will make a defensive adjustment, nope just let a man drop 73 on our dome. Crazy! This team has no marbles to borrow from major league. Where is the toughness and fight? Dejounte Murray talking about never let anyone punk you LMAO. Luka punked us, took our lunch money, gave us a wedgie then waved as he walked off the court. This team lacks toughness mentally and physically :(. Also get AJ and Bufkin on the court pronto. At least they will give effort defensively.

He’s great when he’s available. I wonder if part of his playing time is tied to load management.

It would be a hard pill to swallow if you’re a team that’s already thin due to injuries trading for yet another injury prone player.

I would love him if we had more Ironmen on this team already and we weren’t counting on him to be a significant contributor.

I agree he's a risk, but that's why he's available. His deal is not so long where it hurts you long term if he doesn't pan out. Due to his injury history he should resign to a reasonable deal with realistic expectations unlike Bey. To me the only way it doesn't work is if he stays injured; it won't be his on court fit or play. Plus it gives AJ another Christian young man he can vibe with. It will give the Squawk another Christian to hate on. It seems we prefer our athletes popping bottles and siring babies with ump teen baby mamas around here 😂. Just don't be critical of anyone. In AJ's defense Beyonce music been trash for a minute. Dream Girls soundtrack was her last good music and she didn't write any of it. Now I've gone and stirred up a hornets nest.

I am with this idea.  I believe he is uber talented also.   The question is... Would we go into the LT to get him??

    image.png

Of course add 2 2nd round picks...

I think he's worth it. He's a better player than Bey by a country mile on a good deal. Let Bey walk after the year to get back under the LT. I think the only reason Orlando let's him go is because they will need to start resigning young players soon and need the cap space. He becomes the best defender on your team immediately. And you can play him and JJ together too, but have one on the court at all times so you can still run your offensive through a big that can handle. Bottom line is you don't have to change your offense as long as you keep one of them on the court.

My problem is this is ticky tac and you could call it on any play. This hold did not change the momentum of the receiver in anyway and when you watch it at full speed you can barely see it because the receiver is not disrupted. By the letter of the law is it a hold; yes, he grabbed his jersey for a half a second but didn't dislodge or reroute him IMHO. Secondly the ball thrown wasn't catchable.

My bigger issue is if the shoe was on the other foot I doubt this gets called. As a Falcons fan I've been on the other end of this a lot. The final play of the Falcons vs Patriots Superbowl Julio got mugged on the field and nothing was called. It makes the KC call look like blowing a kiss at the player. I don't complain about it though because I prefer players to settle it on the field. This ruined the game for me and I had no vested interest.

  6. I like Bassey . I would also like Ayayi  as a back up PG that can defend and catch and shoot. Can play with Trae too. Filip Petrusev would be a good guy you can stash too. Stretch big with post skill. Average rebounder that isn't very switchable. Reminds me of Brook Lopez. I'm hurt that Neemias Queta was gone. I knew Butler wouldn't make it to us.

  7. First year I haven't bought 2k in almost a decade. They ruined the park experience with too many micro transactions. It's about one step a way from NBA Jam at this point game play wise. The mode you're playing is still good though Supes.

I used to do an online league every year but I would have to fight you for the Hawks. 😁😁

I got up early this morning to purchase a. Ticket for the Bucks game that was on the Black Friday deal.  However there were no tickets that I saw for 49 or even the 9 dollar deal. I was there logged in 5 minutes early before the 7 a.m. start time yet did not see any seats for the advertised prices when it started 5 minutes later. I came back about 25 minutes later and lioged in then it showed that all the Black Friday tickets for the Bucks,Rockets & 76ers were gone.  Did anybidy else experience this?

I did, but I was trying to get 4, so I figured that was why. I did see 200 level games right around 7am. I ended up taking the Orlando game because it's right after my birthday and on MLK day, and the Timberwolves game.

Great fair and balanced article on Trae. I agree with this article he has to be elite offensively to make up for his other short comings, but even if he is elite offensively we could struggle like Damien Lilliard in the playoffs because of his D. Trae is a better playmaker than Lilliard though so that should give him an avenue to contribute more to winning and be more impactful than Dame.

Secondly roster construction will be key; you can only have one bad defender in a championship lineup.  Dame would look alot better with Draymond and Klay on his side. If Trae is going to be the designated defensive liability then everyone else is going to have to be solid.  Trae has to give better effort though and quit the olay crap. If they shoot over his short arms fine,  but he's quick enough to not give up constant dribble penetration like he has.

Right now this team has too many offensive only players. Trae has physical limitations, but I'm looking at Taurean and others and asking what's your excuse.

I have a theory on this. Some college players step right in (see Trae), while others take a lot longer to get comfortable. The difference is the different offensive sets in the pros and the spacing. The Hawks offense at right now is vastly different than what he ran last year that he might honestly not know when to shoot.  Shorter shot clock, rarely moving it around on the perimeter, defensive switching. It has to be very strange as a pure shooter to spot up in the NBA out of college. There is no one committed to your zone. I keep seeing him get antsy feet, like he feels like he needs to drift, but there is no need.  So he just stands there waiting to spot up. I feel, he is getting caught watching. Taking in the sets visually and forgetting his role.

Great post. The only thing I'll add is he's more than a spot up shooter,  and can finish at the rim. He seems to be overly worried about the rim protection in the NBA. He's getting by his man easily with a nice first step,  but is getting turnovers  passing too quickly before he fully draws the help defender. I expect him to poster someone soon. He needs to work on his dribble pull up in between game if he feels he can't finish. I think he can finish though and needs to do a bit of both to keep defenders guessing.

  11. I actually think there's a decent chance he'll be the best player from this class. Great instincts does everything well no real weaknesses imo except not being aggressive on offense right now. I'm thinking that's mostly because he missed a lot of time with the injury and is unsure of where to find his shots and where his teammates will be.

Question for everyone. If best player available when we pick in the draft is a point guard do we still take him?

Basketball is positionless, but defense matters. I would say it depends on what highest rated PG can defend. Imo you can play whatever positions you can defend. Trae is unfortunately a 1 position defender only and that's being generous because he's not a good defender at that position. If the highest rated player is a pg and can defend SGs and Pgs i would say yes draft him. There are other factors but that's a start.

  13. Hawks still Hawking. I thought this cover your a$$ gotcha culture was limited to the ASG. I'm not a fan of airing internal dirty laundry in the public to try and make yourself look better.  This is the culture that empowers a clown like Michael Gearon to put his personal agenda ahead of the well being of the organization . Trying to throw this all on Bud and Wes when they are not here to defend themselves is cowardly.

This is 100% Reseller because he's was in charge and the owner. It's like a CEO having a quarterly earnings meeting and blaming everyone around him for under performing expectations. His answer to the analyst and investors is I was a dope to higher these guys. If you were a dope then why aren't you a dope now, and what kind of confidence does this inspire?

I would hate to work for the Hawks when your there your the best when your gone it's character smearing. Buds a moron now that didn't put the Hawks first. Al Horford never gave his all for the Hawks and was saving himself for a decade for Boston.  Both left because of organizational dysfunction and both are looking good in their next stop.

You know that the people who run projection systems project him to do very well, right?

Fran Fraschilla was literally one the highest experts on Doncic and even he doesn't believe he'll be a Superstar. The people that think he's transcendent will be highly disappointed. I think this is a balanced opinion of what he can be that doesn't write off all his flaws by saying hey but he was Euro league MVP at 18. Being MVP at 18 is impressive,  but lets not act like he wasn't in position to play more Euro minutes than any young player I can remember. Young Euros even when good usually have their minutes capped by vetrean seniority system.

If Dennis wanted to win so bad, then why did he play point guard like he was the only one on the floor.

    Consider this

Dennis took 17.1 shots per game last year and turned the ball over 2.7 times. That is 19.8 possessions that ended with Dennis.  Dennis shot 4 fta per game last year. He had 6.2 assists per game.

23.8% of Dennis possessions last year ended in an assist.  65.8% of Dennis possessions last year ended up in a shot for Dennis. 10.4% of Dennis possessions ended in a turnover.  This means that 76.2% of the time, Dennis did not involve his team mates properly in the possession....is that really someone who wants to win basketball games at the point guard position?

    Dennis 76.2%

    Team 23.8%

There is a reason he was not popular with his teammates. There is a reason Prince openly criticized him on twitter.

    https://nba.nbcsports.com/2018/05/17/are-hawks-teammates-taurean-prince-and-dennis-Schröder-subtweeting-each-other/

Dennis was not popular in the locker room and his ball hogging, me first attitude was the primary reason.  There's a reason you see Prince and Bembry court side at summer league and Dennis in Germany.

In 5 short years, he bumped heads with Howard, Teague, Horford, Millsap and Bud getting benched on more than one occasion. Winning basketball isn't just scoring points 1 v 1.

So you're going to put that all on Dennis? This team was unbearable last year; I could barely watch 10  games and I normally watch 82. Who was he going to pass to? If it's true that the team was 15-17 when he scored 20+ points than I can see why he thought he was doing the right thing. Their record was ass when he wasn't scoring. The coaching staff and GM should have control here not the 24 year old. If they wanted him to change and play differently and he didn't respond they should have benched him or traded him then.

Dennis as a I mentioned is not a prefect player,  but I'm not going to crap on him for being ball dominate on last year's team. He played fine when he had better players and leaders around and Dennis did not destroy the leadership structure he desperately needed that was Schlenk and Bud.

I can't believe you guys have me on here defending Dennis. I've been wanting to trade him for 2.5 years when he had value.

Everybody that leaves the Hawk's seems to be in a better situation. Horford, Korver,  Millsap, Bud the list goes on.  I guess a Hawks fans only recourse is to hate on them. I want to see the Hawks win not hate on players that helped us make the playoffs for a decade even though that's not good enough for Hawks fans.

Some people were overly critical and I'm sure the losing didn't help.  I give him credit for wanting to win.  In the end though, he gave his haters ammunition to keep hating.  That's not turning on him, that's just what it is.

I love that he wanted to win. We don't have normal rebuilding youngins; these guys are used to being in the playoffs, and playing in big games. I would hate being Taurean and Dennis and being this bad. Taurean probably won't mind because he'll get more shots to inflate his value for his next deal, but Dennis already had his deal. I want guys that aren't ok with losing.

Parker never had elite scorer upside to begin with.  He's just another overhyped prospect who never lived up to that hype.  He has neither the athleticism nor the skill level to be an elite scorer.

It amazes me how you guys want to close the book on guys in their early 20s. If you can't see the potential Parker has that's a you problem. His defense is not good,  but it's silly to argue with you about rather he can score or not. He averaged 20 points a game in 2016/2017 shooting 49% from the field and 36.5% from 3. Not inefficient chucking. Now if you want to talk about D you have an argument, but I never mentioned his D. Plenty of room on a team for an offensive only star, the league is littered with them.  The good teams know how to hide them, and get more out of them defensively.

We have 3 point guards on the roster now and used a top 5 pick on one...we need a defensive big like yesterday

D Anthony Melton can play and guard 1 or 2, but unlike our current PGs actually projects to be a very good defensive player. If we draft him maybe you don't trade for Lin. When our point guards are getting worked every night I guarantee we will be looking for a defensive compliment to Trae when John Wall is eating him alive.

Definitely need a defensive big,  but I question does Schlenk want a big that can't shoot. Early results say no with Dedmon and Spellman. I think Melton has more upside too, and we are in talent acquisition mode.

There was a lot of talent in this second round. I think there will some ballers.

  19. 17 hours ago, Peoriabird said:

He should have drafted Mitchell Robinson with that 34th pick.  Still like his talent evaluation skills!

D Anthony Melton is that guy, but Mitchell looked good too. He will be the guy that when the draft is re drafted should have gone in the lottery. This guy was stat stuffing like I expected in summer league.  Strong and physical already and quick enough to get wherever he wanted on the court. Finishing through contact already and showing PG ability already after playing no organized basketball for a year.

He's Marcus Smart with better basketball IQ. If he shoots it like he did in Summer league NBA beware.  Marcus Smart with a jumper and better IQ, it's scary. Houston will have a hard time not giving him minutes.
