  1. I still think you'll get majority Hawks answers considering the board we're on.

I just want the Falcons to have back to back winning seasons honestly, then we'll talk championship.....so tired of hearing that stat. It's burden, maybe a curse. Hawks are definitely closer to me and I'd love an NBA championship more than an NFL one.

Like you said, Hawks are much funner to watch this season.

  2. Pretty much what I expected... What happened to NBA fans?? Back in the 90´s it wasn't this bad. The average NBA fan today seems to be totally ignorant about what is going on in the league.

It wasn't that bad, but it still had some similarities. It all comes back to star power and highlight ability of a player. Your average fan may only see commercials and know players through hearsay, not exactly the ones that are having good seasons this year. The voting basically reflects that.

Grant Hill drinks Sprite = well known commercial and All-star appearances way past his prime.

Tim Hardaway is another example that comes to mind. Him and his ugly *ss Bacon shoes.....

  3. Glad to see a more accurate figure about attendance. We're improving and it doesn't look we've been hit as hard by the economy as some suggest. We're definitely not giving away tickets as easily as we have been in the past.

  4. I'm still waiting on the take on the Dallas win.

"but they're not elite" Not very far removed from a finals berth so by the same logic we can't discount them because they've already proven they're elite.

"but Josh Howard wasn't playing" He's missed how many games over the past 3 seasons?

And my personal favorite "they didn't play us as hard as they would have any other team"

Yup I just love reading to see what Hotlanta is going to say. Usually you hear someone make excuses when they lose......he actually makes them when we win.

  5. Well said!!! There was a brief period in the 3rd quarter when 'ISO Joe' started again and the Raptors scored 8 quick points. To Woody's credit, he did call a timeout when that happened. He's got to drill into the players that when they share the ball, good things happen!

And more importantly, Woody subbed him out if you noticed. Really bold move by him and I think he needs to do that more often. We went back to playing how we should after that and the blowout resumed. I will give props to Woodson on that if he continues the trend.

It's on Joe to share and if he doesn't then he needs to suffer the consequences just like any other player, rookie or not.

  6. I disagree. It's a fact that we win when we control the rebounds. That's regardless of How Joe is playing. So, us giving them so many second and third chances resulted in us losing. The main problem is that we don't have consistent rebounders. They put Wallace out there and he looked like Wallace of old. We put Josh out there and he floated to the perimeter.

Exactly, its all been coming down to rebounding for us. Of course Joe didn't help, but if we had prevented just a few more chance for them and given ourselves a few more we could have had this game won.

  7. One issue that I think affects Hawks attendance is the lack of coverage in the local media. Even on sports talk radio, its rare to hear about the hawks, and it might be just 10 minutes of a 3 hour show. The news channels don't talk much about them and its just not on the mind of people generally.

Unfortunately, I also think that a lot of upper/middle class whites (good ol boys) do not like the NBA because it brings across too much of a hip hop image. I am not really sure why they act that way, but I guess in baseball and football, the teams are larger and they wear hats and helmets, so there is less identity amongst the players. This is not reflected in the majority, but I think a lot that fork out good money to go to see other sports do not watch basketball.

One other big thing is the number of games. People want to compare the falcons and UGA football, but there are only 8 home falcons games and maybe 6 UGA football games. I believe the Braves are a little cheaper, and they play in the summer when attending is more accessible. The hawks need to start doing business men specials during the week.

Also, why not drop prices and fill up the seats. Arthur Blank did it. Why not lower prices, fill up all seats. I am sure that you would have a huge increase in concessions and souvenirs. The way the economy is now, its tough to get out to a game. Especially with a family.

Price is also an issue. The hawks need to do a better job of running promotions through corporations to get their employees out to the games. Not that it matters, entertainment during time outs never changes, so it might be nice to spice that up a little. I am getting a little tired of seeing sky hawk. The girls are nice though.

Those are just my thoughts. If I were running things, I think there are a lot of little things that could be done to increase attendance.

I don't like to make excuses for fans not showing up, but these are some pretty good reasons. You my friend should take over as head of marketing. Seriously though, i know a couple people that work in the Philips marketing department and I think they could do a LOT better.

  8. The only negative from the game (per Hollinger):

"For the home side, the one disappointment was how few people were there to see the dramatic win. Atlantans who stayed home to see Pau Gasol's "CSI: Miami" debut made a horrible mistake, as the few who showed up were treated to one of the most thrilling games of the season. One hopes more of them will show up on Wednesday, when Dwyane Wade and the Heat show up -- the announced crowd of 12,977 was pathetic enough for a game of this magnitude, but for much of the first half the arena appeared to have fewer than half that many people.

"We need the support," said Woodson. "Amazing things can happen when the house is filled."

I keep hearing people say this is a basketball city, but we're tops in the league at the moment and we've yet to prove it. I realize it was a Monday game...but still. Hopefully this will improve as the season goes on.

  9. I hate how we switch every time on defense.

And that's the problem, switching can work depending on situation but we use it ALL the time.

Granted there have been times it has helped us but it is a matter of knowing when to use it, but I guess we can't expect that much thinking from Woodson.
