  2. Isn't Portland trying to get Roy to retire because of his knees?

Its because they do not believe that he can be the leader of a team for a full season without getting hurt. He wouldn't even be starting for me, we would effectively pull his minutes back from 37 (in 09-10) to around 25-28. Hopefully when we're done drafting, I'll be able to say that drafting Roy as a 6th man was a low-risk, high reward maneuver.
  3. With the 90th pick in the draft The Perfect Balance selects:

    Lamar Odom

I was about to take L. Odom with my last pick and I'm estatic he is still on the board.I'm taking veterans back to back to balance out this roster. Like T. Prince, Odom is 31 with somegood seasons left in the tank for sure. Unlike most 6th men who are scorers by trade only, Odom will be a multi-purpose, versatile 6th man who can give your team what it is missing game by game. One game it could be defense, another game passing, then scoring, or it could be more rebounding. He can play SF with a HUGE line up or he can play PF or C. His winning experience in the playoffs is a welcomed addition to The Perfect Balance who will be ready to win now and have the young pieces to win later.

    Current Roster with age:

    PG - R. Westbrook 23

    SG - W. Matthews 24

    SF - T. Prince 31

    PF - L. Love 22

    C - T. Chandler 28

    6th Man - L. Odom 31

Nice pick, I was actually going to select him until I saw Brandon Roy still available. Just curious but who would you take out in order to bring Odom into the game? There are a plethora of ways to do it.
  4. With pick number 89 Put the Ball in the Damn Basket select Brandon Roy.

6th man of the year, (if awards are even going to be given). You can't say anything about future lingering injuries, he has nothing left in his knees to tear. And ask DeJuan Blair how that has worked out for him since high school.

    Jrue Holiday

    Landry Fields

    Gerrald Wallace

    Dirk Nowitizki

    Kendrick Perkins

    6th man Brandon Roy

Put the Ball in the Damn Basket are going places! :dancer:

  5. Landry Fields

A very low risk, high reward pick to fill out my starting lineup. I was actually quite surprised to see him still undrafted seeing as how he was the second most consistent rookie in the league this year. I believe that in playing off of Dirk and Crash he can either maintain his scoring average of 10 ppg or increase it, either is fine. In addition, Landry Fields along with Jrue Holiday can become a formidable backcourt for years to come.

    10ppg, 6rpg, 2ast, 1stl, with the 5th pick. I can take that.

  6. With the next pick I draft Gerald Wallace

I believe that his overall defense and scoring punch (to go alongside with Dirk and Jrue) will ultimately be the X factor for my team and our scheme.

  7. Moving the draft along, I select Kendrick Perkins. I believe Kendrick is one of the better defensive big men in the game today, and that's all I'm going to be asking him to focus on. DEFENSE. Help Dirk out out there big fella!

  8. Marc Gasol

Very few Centers left so I should grab the best one available while I can. Gasol broke out in the playoffs this year with 15ppg 11rpg and 2.2 bpg. He is young and mature, he has the intangibles to lead a team. Rondo is gonna love this guy in the PnR. I look forward to watching this guy dominate the paint for the next 10 years.

Good pick, I was hoping he would fall to me in the third round.

Oh well, UNDRAFTED is still out there

  9. With the 21st pick in this draft I select Jrue Holiday.

When starting a team I ideally would want to start off by picking an already established superstar/star (Dirk 14th pick), and then select a young talented stud to eventually take the mantle. He might be a reach talent wise for the 21st pick but he fits my classification of a PG in this league (an athletic, fast guard who can score but who PRIMARILY looks to get teammates involved) & after how I saw him produce this year: 14ppg 45%FG 6ast 1.5stl 2turns. Then seeing how he maintained his avg. against the Heat there was no way I was going to select UNDRAFTED and leave Holiday on the board until late round 3.

  10. Today is his birthday and he only turns 27. He is possibly the last bonafide Superstar available in this draft. He won a championship in college and has been the man of several teams to make it to the playoffs in the Pros. He is regarded as one of the top 3 pure scorers in the NBA. He is at worse the 3rd best SF in the NBA and the SF position does not have quality depth of stars nonetheless a Superstar as Carmelo Anthony.

With the 15th pick I am proud to select Carmelo Anthony

I struggled with not picking him, his severe lack of defense really hinders him as "the guy" in my opinion.
  11. Dirk Nowitzki

When building a team for the next 4-5 years, I don't want to give the keys to a young up and coming star. I want my team to be led by a veteran. Dirk is the hardest PF in the league to gameplan against now that he has shown that smaller athletic fowards no longer can frustrate him. With the correct mix of talent around him, Dirk can lead any team to the Finals for the next 4-5 years; and with most of the superstars gone off the board I pick Dirk.

Sorry for the late post, had a new member introduced to the family today!

  12. Welcome to the Lockout Fantasy Draft Thread! There are 14 teams, randomized order courtesy of random.org: 1. jy21 2. diesel 3. sultanofatl 4. capstone21 5. whassuphawks 6. ahf 7. supporter 8. nicholasp27 9. seano 10. 01d0rd3r 11. thatsmydawg 12. ngc7 13. coachx 14. alejandro091. This is a snake draft, so draft order goes 1,2,3,4,...14, 14, 13, 12, 11,...3, 2, 1, 1, 2, 3,..2. You can draft anybody that is currently in the league (or is a free agent). They must have played at least one NBA game prior to today.3. You get the player as they are and their projected potential/output for their projected career from here on out. So if you draft Shaq, you are getting a player often injured, on the downside of his career, with only a year or so left. If you draft Wall, you get a young player who may project to play for 10+ years at a high level.4. Each team gets 13 players and 1 coach, no restrictions on positions...draft 13 centers if you want; only 1 coach5. Draft as if you are starting a new franchise, so how your team will play over the next 10 years, not just year one6. When it's your turn to draft, you just post (in bold) the player's name and you should do a writeup on why you chose that player. If you don't have time for a writeup, you can just make your selection to keep draft moving and then post writeup later when you have time. Your writeup should explain why the player rules and how well they fit with your squad and why your team is now going to dominate the '10s. You should always pm the next person in the list after you pick. 7. We'll set a time limit that works for all players to keep draft moving without getting too many skips. If you are skipped for not being here for your turn, you can make it up at any time when you return. After the draft, each person will writeup why their team is the best and then we'll do a public Hawksquawk vote to determine the winner. Some more logistics:1. We'll start off with a 8 hour time limit for pick. So when the person before you picks, you have 8 hours from then to make your selection or you are skipped. If you are skipped, the next person's clock starts and they have 8 hours. You may make up skipped picks at any time. Just post who you want when you get back to the thread. We may decrease time limit after a few rounds to keep draft moving smoothly, but we'll decide that as a group. One Caveat: The clock does not run from 10pm-7am. So if team 5 makes a selection at 9pm then team 6 has until 2pm the next day (1 hour until 10pm then 7 hours after 7am.)2. You should PM the person after you when you make your pick so they know it's their turn. However, everyone should also follow along with the thread and know when they are up soon. 3. If your pick is coming up soon and you'll be away, just ask in thread who will take your pm and be around to post it when it's your turn. I like to pm someone picking after me, and ideally someone that I have 2 picks before they go again so I can pm them 2 choices in case my top choice gets selected.4. Trades are allowed, but all teams must end up with 13 players and a coach. So you can't trade player a for players b, c but you could trade player a and your 8th round pick for players b, c. If a trade is too one-sided, it may be vetoed by the commish (nicholasp27), however only if most of the players feel it's unfair. Basically, we want to avoid stacking one team up with lopsided trades but trades for fit or due to different projections of talent are fine. (example: one draft I was in someone traded Jordan and a pick for 2 marginal all-stars in an all-time dynasty draft; this caused controversy as it was way too lopsided)5. If others want to join, they can during the FIRST ROUND only. They will be placed in the last spot in the first round (so #15 right now). Once the first selection of round 2 is made, the draft is CLOSED. It will also close when it gets to 20 teams, so there are 6 spots open as of the start of the draft. Also, you can be a co-owner with any team if the owner agrees. So feel free to co-own or consult with your favorite hawksquawker.6. I'll create a google docs spreadsheet with each team for us to enter the picks as they happen so we have a quick reference to see who's been selected already. I'll post a link to that at the top of this post for easy retrieval. It will be a public spreadsheet so anyone can edit, so please feel free to add in your picks to it when you select them.Ask questions in thread/pm and I'll answer them.JY21 is up, but I won't start clock until 7am tomorrow to give people time to find thread and know this has started. So JY21 has until 3pm Thursday to make his pick. If he comes on and posts sooner, the next person's (diesel) clock will start at that time, but no sooner than 7am tomorrow. The idea is for everyone to try to check the thread 1-2 times/day, maybe more if you are close to coming up, so that this moves faster than once every 8 hours, but things come up so 8 hours should give people time when they can't get on.

Good luck to everybody, hope my two pick will still be there for me.
  13. Oh yes it was Q. Rich. The sad thing is that all the media outlets I have watched, listened, or read have said nothing about him going on the court. You know the Magic aren't going to mention it. I only hope since Stu Jackson was at the game that he saw him on the court. However, like most he was probably looking at the incident itself and never noticed the Magic bench. I just hope they look at every camera angle, before they give out the suspensions. If they due Q. Rich will be suspended as well.

    P

I wasn't asking if it was Q. Rich, I thought there was one more player on the court with him.

  14. It showed one Magic player clearly on the court in a grey warm up shirt.

When they came back from the timeout they got a close up of the Magic huddle before they took the court. Yes, the only Magic player with a grey shirt warm up, none other than Q. Rich. So according to rules that means he should be gone for a game as well. We will see if the league notices this as well.

I saw this too; are you sure it was just Q. Rich?

  15. It's not even that Dwight is waiting in the paint it's because he rotates all the way out to whoever is trying to post JJ because whatever C LD has in is not going to do anything. JJ and Marv tried a billion times but had to quickly pass out because Dwight put a hard trap on them.

You're right, just trying to voice some of my frustrations with the team. You're not a fan unless you're frustrated right?
