The source cleared me to reveal the name of the superstar.
It is Giannis.
I am not saying it is going to happen but it is being discussed and it depends on if Giannis wants to come to Atlanta. This is from my source and from @NBASupes source.
It also leaves the option to trade for BI and the team would look roughly something like:
Trae
Bogi/Kobe
Ingram/Hunter
Giannis
OO
The longer version of what I've heard can come down to three options for our roster:
The above option, the "Push All The Chips In" is what I call it. We will be a good team, no question, but with a scary future with no firsts for a long time.
2nd Option:
We trade Murray and AJ to NO for BI and the Lakers 2025 unprotected first
We keep Trae. We do NOT trade for Giannis. We use the #1 pick on Sarr.
Team would be:
Trae
Bogi/Kobe
Ingram/Hunter
Sarr/either Capela or OO
3rd option:
We blow it all up. SAS have offered 4, 8 and all our picks back for Trae. We move him. We keep the #1 pick. We move Murray not to the Pelicans but to the Pistons or another team I've been told not to mention that has picks/young guys.
Roster would be:
(this is my postulating at possible draft results)
Reed Sheppard
Bogi/Kobe
Hunter/#8 pick in this draft
Sarr/OO
We have all our picks back as well as picks and young guys from moving Murray to either the Pistons or mystery team.
Which option do you guys and gal prefer? I think the 3rd option is the best one but the 2nd option is more safe. The first option MIGHT win us a title...but then we'll be in purgatory for years with no draft picks.
If someone can make a poll with these three options, please do so, you have my blessing. These are the three big scenarios the Hawks FO is discussing now and in the upcoming time to the draft.
I'm all about winning a title. So, I vote for pushing in the chips and trading for Giannis.

Do you really think that Bucks is going to do that deal without any picks? Yeah, they will not!
I said the pick, implying the #1 pick only. My proposed trade has us sending picks with N.O. to MIL

Don't forget about the extra roster spot for his brother Thanasis.... lmao
We're trading away enough spaces for that

That is still too rich for my blood.
Keeping the pick and getting Sarr would make that trade worth it, in my opinion. That is still Giannis.

This board is like a drug. I say I'm done for a bit and get dragged back in for one more round of arguing what makes sense.

It's tiring. We finally have the #1 pick, and people are acting like we suddenly need to blow the team up and start over.

I'm just going to back away from these threads again. I was excited to see all our ideas about using the #1 pick to become a playoff team and contender again. But the majority want to rebuild and collect lottery picks. I'll keep my rose-colored glasses on and remain happy until something credible comes out.

We've been trying to trade CC in forever and a day....getting #1 shouldn't alter the approach to the current roster retool.
I don't want to hear...we added Sarr and that's the end of our offseason for the front court.
I agree. But I just wonder if CC has a bit more value to us here in mentoring Sarr for one year vs whatever limited value he might have in a trade.

Which team wants Clint? And what can we get for him?
Do we keep Clint to mentor Sarr? Do they have similar enough playstyles?

We just got the #1 pick in the draft for the first time. We already have an established Superstar in Trae Young. The teams in this rare position did not trade their Superstar just because they got the #1 pick. They picked the best player and went on to win Championships!
- Los Angeles Lakers (1979): The Lakers won the draft lottery and selected Magic Johnson with the #1 pick. They already had Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on their roster.
- Los Angeles Lakers (1982): The Lakers won the draft lottery and selected James Worthy with the #1 pick. They already had Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on their roster.
- San Antonio Spurs (1997): The Spurs won the draft lottery and selected Tim Duncan with the #1 pick. They already had David Robinson on their roster.
- Houston Rockets (1984): The Rockets won the draft lottery and selected Hakeem Olajuwon with the #1 pick. They already had Ralph Sampson on their roster.
Anything else is the literal definition of insanity.

This was definitely the worst possible outcome. This feels like Carolina Panthers where you got CJ Stroud and Bryce Young and the Hawks might take Bryce Young instead of Stroud
So it's only the worst possible outcome because you think they will pick the wrong player? No chance they package the pick for another player?

Worst f***ing luck ever!
Why would this be considered bad luck? Even if this class is weaker than previous classes, this is still the #1 pick and should be worth something.

Let's beat the teams we should beat.

Did Trae just run an off-ball play?

We shouldn't lose this lead at any point tonight. Let's step on them and cruise to another win.

I don't understand these two statements. If every team wants Trae, shouldn't his status around the league be great? I don't want him to demand a trade so not arguing about it, just not sure I understand how the first statement leads to the second.
Teams want him badly. But they want his value to appear low to the Hawks. It's all for his perceived trade value. "Nobody wants Trae, let me have him for 1 pick and salary match"

We want to trade the one draft success we have as a team, for more top draft picks, in THE WEAKEST DRAFT OF RECENT MEMORY????
2017: John Collins (19) - 2017-18 All-Rookie - Backup PF for Jazz
2018: Trae Young (5) - 3x All-Star, 2021-22 All-NBA, 2018-19 All-Rookie
Kevin Huerter (19) - 2018-19 All-Rookie - Starting SG for Kings
Omari Spellman - No longer in NBA
2019: Deandre Hunter (4) - Starting SF for Hawks
Cam Reddish (10) - Riding the bench for Lakers
2020: Onyeka Okongwu (6) - Backup Center for Hawks
2021: Jalen Johnson (20) - Starting PF for Hawks
2022: AJ Griffin (16) - Riding the bench for Hawks
2023: Kobe Bufkin (15) - Riding the bench for Hawks
This is what our recent first-round draft picks have achieved; what about this says "Trade Trae Young"?
