Moves need to happen. Point blank, this team has gone as far as it can go and needs change.

Hawks/Pistons/Knicks - Trae to DET with Dre and Clint
Hawks/Celtics - Celtics add quality young depth, Hawks get Horford to help us with leadership and teach OO as well as a 2024 late freaking 1st.
Hawks/Lakers - Murray to LA for 2029 1st and favorable pick swap in the future.
Draft:
Hawks draft Zaccharie, Reed Sheppard, and Dalton Knecht in the 1st round - 2nd round - NA for now
Free Agency
Lineup:
Sheppard/Russell/Forrest
Ausar/Bogi/Kobe
Zaccharie/Lundy/Knecht
JJ/Bogey/Gueye
OO/Horford
We would have a bench who knows exactly how to play like Quin wants to play and we have the starters who can play within Quin's scheme.

Being serious, I wouldn't mind Wiggins if we were trading one of our other pieces. But DJM feels a bit too expensive to get Wiggins back. I'm trying not to be one of those fans who say nothing is good enough for our players, but Wiggins just hasn't been good.

Thisi s the weird part -- I can't imagine we really covet Reaves that much. Why would we want a Bogi/Reaves rotation? That's somehow even worse perimeter D than we have now. So yeah, probably had no discussions around Reaves because our FO doesn't care about him.
It doesn't fit the direction our coach has said either. Length, more weight, and toughness. None of that describes Reeves, so those talks never really got going in my opinion.

Dejounte Murray is a player who definitely has the Lakers’ interest, and the Hawks certainly would ask for Austin Reaves initially in those talks. The Lakers, though, have shown no interest in trading Reaves despite some defensive regression this season, and even if they did flip him for Murray, there’s real skepticism that it would “move the needle” — a phrase you hear a lot when you talk to people about the Lakers and their deadline plans. If the cost to get Murray is a first-round pick and a win-now young player (the Raptors elected for two of those players in lieu of a first-round pick in their trade of OG Anunoby to the Knicks), the Lakers can’t really meet it without Reaves. Sources say there have been no discussions about trading Austin Reaves. We all know what happened.
- The Lakers called about DJM
- We said Reeves would need to be included at the bare minimum
- They tried to low-ball us with something and leaked it to the press to try and create leverage
- We said no thanks and took other calls
- The media is still trying to push the old leaked info to try and pressure us into taking the Lakers scraps
Can we please move on from discussing this trade now?

The word loses it's meaning when you start using it for guys who don't even make all-star games. DJ is an above average starter, which is a high compliment given how much talent there is in the NBA.
Whatever label you want to give DJM, nobody can deny that Austin Reeves is not on that level. Any return package that has Reeves as the centerpiece is a major loss of talent.

Reaves per 36 mins:
18.1 - 6 - 5 - 48% fg% - 55.5efg5, 61% TS - 13 million per year
22 - 5 - 4 - 47% fg$ - 53efg%, 56% TS - 32 million per year.
I'd take Reaves for Murray swap if it frees up 20 million for us to sign a player like Nic Claxton this offseason.
I see your argument about saving money. I never discuss the cap because it isn't my money being spent. Let's discuss the on-court fit of this trade scenario.
Bringing Reeves here, he presumably takes over for DJM as the #2 or #3? Now that he is permanently a part of the opposing team's game plan, does he still average that 18 ppg on 48%? I'm legit worried about him being able to step in and not have us be worse on the court, let alone improving our win/lose record.
He's a good player, but I couldn't have him being the centerpiece in return for trading DJM.- 1

Is Murray really a star? Negative defender career TS% well below the current league average. He hasn't been within sniffing distance of an All Star spot since joining the Hawks.
21, 5, & 5 on 47% shooting is star caliber to me. He has single-handedly won us multiple games since we traded for him. The fit has not worked out like we thought it would, but his level of play didn't take a nosedive. There is a reason all of these teams are bidding for him.
He isn't the #1 guy. But a good #2 and unfair #3. Austin Reeves is nowhere close in terms of talent.

6 minutes ago, Atlantaholic said:Of course Murray is overall better than Reaves, but he's making 20 million dollars more per year. The logic for Reaves for Murray trade, and assuming the rest of the trade is filler that eventually turns into cap dollars is Reaves + 18-24 million of cap relief for Murray.
I'd rather keep Murray and try to make it work. Nobody would trade us their second star for Hunter and filler—no reason we should do a similar deal.

NBA Exec Hints at Knicks Next Move After OG Anunoby Trade - Heavy.com
QuoteBut the Knicks are in a good place to use Julius Randle and picks to make another big move, so that justifies them giving up two of their scoring options. Anunoby’s health is also a factor that’ll help determine how this trade ages.

There's been multiple offers for DJM. This is not a need to dump due to LT situation.
Kobe was brought in to be DJM leaving insurance. Kobe has enough size to play SG if they go that route with him.
The Kobe pick makes more sense now. I just wish we could've seen him play actual NBA minutes already.

I don't feel great about the state of the team moving forward. I'm tired of our team always being on the outside looking in.

Contender? No.
No, but it can turn our season around and get in the playoffs. We would need to make additional moves for role players and depth.

Ok. I'll play along.
I'll need a 1st from Dallas for Capela.
Then what's next for the Hawks? Post the top 8/9 rotation players in each scenario and let's have a look.
PG: Trae, Trent F/Kobe B
SG: THJ, Bogi, AJ
SF: Hunter, Bey, AJ
PF: JJ, OO
C : KAT, OO

I think we'd still have a defensive problem.
I've given up on defense for now. Let's get better offensive players on the court and take the 4th quarter blitzes away from Trae. I'm tired of seeing teams knowing they can completely disrupt our offense late in games.

This is a good framework to get started from and addresses our need for more shooting to fit Quinn's offense.
Trae
THJ
Hunter
JJ
KAT
I'm not going to speak on the money, because it isn't my money to worry about. But does this team look like a contender? This is a NBA 2k trade I know. But it works and I really want Derozan on our team for some reason.

5 minutes ago, Hawkmoor said:The Atlanta Hawks have a Trae Young problem; Quin Snyder is there to fix it, one way, or the other
Starting with the locker room, it's no secret there's a serious disconnect between Young, the team's star player, and many -- though some say nearly all -- of his teammates. He is not beloved, sources say, and there's a strong view that Young fails to lead, to understand or care to understand what is required of him, and that as a result the team will never achieve what it should until that reality is fixed.
This is from March 2023. I'm not really plugged in this year, but when I do watch, I don't see any on-court evidence of bad team chemistry. We just aren't good. But the guys seem to like each other.

I was told Atlanta is serious about KAT and if Minnesota wants to move him for less money for Murray and picks. This is basically the rumored deal. This would save MIN a lot of money.
I was told Minnesota doesn't want to trade KAT but will have to trade him due to the financial issues to maintain the current squad.
I was told NY and Minnesota have been in talks for KAT. Even reached out to Atlanta but Atlanta wants KAT even more and see him as a perfect fit next to JJ and Trae. Sorry, JJ, not OO.
Don't give me more hope Supes. Don't do this to me

Why are we even discussing trading Trae Young?
