  1. Guys, here's our current cap situation:

    We are screwed

We will be like 4 mill shy of the tax threshold without our 3rd option( Jamal ) & 4 players shy of league minimum (13)

How on God's green earth are we going to replace/resign Jamal & fill the other 3 spots with at least mediocre players without paying tax??????

    We don't have many options:

#1, Pay the tax to stay path or get better.

#2, Fill the 4 spots with mediocre vets & pray.

#3, Dump Marvin with the 2012 pick( You have to include the pick, get real) so you can resign/replace Jamal & do #2

#4, Blow it up, dump as much salary as you can, stash one season, get a high pick, use the cap space on FAs or on trades & come back stronger next season.

I don't think our ownership will go #1, I don't think #2 make us better if not worst, #3 is more like staying path depending on who may sign for cheap & #4 may be the best thing to do having the ASG.

All that considering the current CBA, the new one is rumored to have a hard cap so it can be worst.

That being said, give me Garnett's expiring contract for Smoove & Marvin any day & they don't even have to include a pick.

If anyone has an realistic idea on how to get better in this cap inferno without paying tax...............

  2. You know guys this could backfire on the Marvin thing. He is the ONLY player on the Hawks roster that even has a sniff of a low post game. Marvin can be a 18/8 player in the right situation and he plays defense. If Marvin played the 4 and had plays run for him the talk would have been gone a long time ago.

I also believe he is a 4 being forced to play the 3.

  3. This rumor is plain stupid. If this goes down we will have like 56 mill tided up in 4 players......yes, we the ones who don't pay tax.......

I understand that there's no takers for Marvin besides Cleveland but, hey, why not doing it for just TPE?, a 2012 1rst round pick should be enough compensation. I think is a fair deal. And I hope this is not a move motivated on the possibility of getting Howard by using Jamison's 15 mill expiring as part of the deal later on. We will be giving up most of next season.

  4. Before I would go too far praising Carlisle, I think you have to praise Donnie Nelson first. He put the team together that had every skillset needed to win. I give Carlisle credit for the Zone (Avery Johnson) and putting Berea off the bench... and the fact that he got everybody to buy into the team play. However, all that with a flawed skillset would not have won much. Nelson's accomplishment on the other hand was putting together guys who were so well fit together that their second leading scorer went out for the season and another guy was able to step up and replace him.

Dallas had a great blueprint with great depth.

They will be just another playoff team without that coaching. But props to Nelson for getting Chandler though.

  5. @Jaybird Honestly, I have a lot of respect for Teague but he is a pg who has always struggled with confidence issues. In my opinion you either start building your team around him or you trade him while his trade value has peaked.

@Sasuke: I would love to not involve Teague but I don't see LAL doing that trade without him involved. The only reason I included Orlando in the trade is because with that lineup you are going to need a forward who can shoot, a gaurd who can score, and some cap space to acquire a new pg.

Yes you are an older more injury prone team but again you do have experience and defense. Yes you also acquire Artest who is nuts but then again you replace josh smith and Jamal Crawford with some players who are a little more team oriented.

I don't think Teague is needed in the deal considering how bad Artest & his contract are.

  6. PG - Ellis

    G - Johnson

    F - Marvin

    F - Horford

    C - Dalembert

That starting 5 would be the best starting 5 in Atlanta since the 1988 Hawks team that took Boston to the limit. It's a lineup that is balanced both offensively and defensively.

And hey, maybe Ellis becomes the #1 over JJ. Who knows?

All I know is that the days of doubling JJ would be gone, because Ellis would make teams PAY for doubling JJ, by taking the ball all the way to the rim. And Dalembert wouldn't be drifting outside of 10 feet of the goal. If we could get ANYTHING tangible out of Marvin, we would continue to be a threat in the East.

yep . . . sometimes even in one quarter

    Can he still do that?
