  1.

We can almost always trade for someone via sign and trade or otherwise.  The challenge with that is that the salary we send out will need to balance against what we bring in assuming we have signed Gasol for $20M or so.  So if Harris S&Ts for $14M, for example, we have ship roughly $14M out in that trade.

I see. That is the challenge, we don't have that many contracts to send.

  2. I don't think he is and I'm not sure how I feel about it, but he was a pretty hot name for us during the second summer of Ferry.

He has player option this summer. I was wondering whether he would opt out. I have mixed feelings too. He is very talented but can get moody.

  3. A team can go over the cap just sign the players you want from other teams and then sign your own later. The Cavs are at 82 million way over the cap now.

It is not that simple. Your own players have cap holds. As far as I know Millsap and Carroll have a total of ~16 M of cap hold. Consider the 1st rd draft pick too and we will probably have somewhere between 7-10 M of cap space. It is not even enough for one elite FA not to mention two FAs.

Hawksfanatic will probably write something soon but until then here is a long but good read:

  4. I don't think many Hawks fans would be angry at an ECF loss but the way we lost was really discouraging.

    - We were literally bullied by the stronger team. It felt like Thompon and Mozgov could get any rebound any time they wanted. This series really made me question whether we should continue with the Horford-Millsap front court.

    - I cannot believe that our guys didn't retaliate to Delly.  Remember what Cavs did to Boston after Kevin Love's injury? Or what Miami did to Indiana after hard fouls on Lebron and Wade?

    - Our bench was not ready for the ECF except Bazemore. Scott, Pero, Dennis and Mack were all big disappointments.

    - We didn't lose because of the refs but the double standard applied Horford's and Howard's flagrant fouls is a clear indication of what a joke NBA is.

Nevertheless, it was a season for ages. Thanks to all for making Atlanta basketball relevant again.

  5. But are they willing to pay top dollars just to see that one guy playing somewhere else last year?

Sometimes I wish USA had this European hooligan culture. Aside from all the bad stuff, at least it insures fan purity at home games. The visiting fans all have to be registred and all are cramped in a box with each other, seperated by hundreds of police, and in a vast minority, only getting like 1/10th of the tickets. Most people outside of that group are not dumb enough to show any kind of sign to support the away team.

First time I watched a game at Philips Arena as a foreigner, I was shocked to see away team fans among Hawks fans. It took me a few years to get used to it but honestly now I enjoy watching games in a civilized atmosphere more as opposed to what you experience in other countries.
