You don"t choose to be a fan of something or somebody. Something makes you feeling bound to a player, a city, a team of whatever. Of course it can Start with buying a ticket. But you cannot choose. And you cannot end being a fan on purpose as well. Who doesn't get this doesn't know what it means to be a fan...

I'm still a Josh Smith fan, I know what it's like to support a player through some struggles. I was referring to the toxic behavior from Lin fans. I've never seen you or other Dennis fans attacking fans on this site. It's always been respect.

Jeremy Lin fans on Reddit attacking Hawks fans

Why does he still have fans that dedicated? He stays injured unfortunately.

They said the same about Memphis and New Orleans ...

What big sports franchises have left Atl other than hockey?  Oh

Do you really want to start an argument about Hawks having problems to fill their arena?

I already wrote about them not being relocated...

    Yeah only Hockey, twice... Nevermind...

I'd suggest delving further into why franchises are located in certain cities/markets.

And now the City is so hyped, they would sellout their first ten seasons no matter how the Team would play.

But it wont happen, I know - nevertheless other big Sport franchises have left ATL before...

You have no clue how hard it is to market this franchise

I'm following the Hawks for five years now and even if I've never been in Atlanta yet, I think I know the best answer to make this franchise more successful: Relocate it to a place not full of transplants - like Seattle....

But could any of them add marketing opportunities and profit from ticket sales and viewership like Lin can? Lin is a marketing beast. Add that both him and Trae are diehard Christians, Atlanta can market this to the church going fans as well.

And this shows how lost this franchise is. No real fans who just love the team or the sport, so they have to try this hard not to play in front of empty seats, that they have to put a bar, a barber and some golf sh!t in the arena and select their players on religion and ethnicity... BTW isn't the latter some kind of racism?

  7. Some weeks ago Dennis said he is thinks his legal problems will be solved this summer. So it actually might be not the worst idea to keep Dennis until this happens. Of course they have to start Dennis, if they want to increase the chances to get something for him at the trade deadline. The knowlegde of this beeing the months to increase his value could even help Dennis to focus on his flaws and let him grow as a person...

Are you gonna stick around the Squawk if Dennis leaves? (I'm making an assumption since you're sportimg the German flag)

Everybody knows Dennis is the reason I started following the Hawks and created my Squawk account. And I wasn't very active here lately because I felt a lot of negativity here... And I try to avoid things that make me feel worse (in opposition to some others who seem to embrace everything that make them feel bad)

But I think I will follow the Hawks still at least a bit, if Dennis is traded. And I will visit this board occasionally - there are some events that might trigger me to come here more often though

    • Dennis plays exceptionally well
    • Hawks tank works out
    • Hawks tank fails totally

But right now Dennis is still a Hawk.

It doesn't take a genius to figure out that the Hawks are probably rebuilding for 3-5 years.

I'm not sure about that. I'd say that rebuild doesn't has a chance if they intentionally tank for more than one more season. Then they have to improve and show their own players and potential FAs the are on the right track. If they tank 3 more years they might lose control over a lot of players (as RFA) - unless they are willing to pay whatever somebody else offers. Since the current ownership seems to be kinda cheap, I don't see that happen. Dennis, Prince and Collins could leave for nothing, one year later all the picks of the current draft are RFAs... Losing culture and playing in front of empty seats aren't things players value more than money... So good luck with your long term rebuild...

  10. In the age of Trump everybody creates his own truth... Dennis never said he wants out now. He said he doesn't want to be second to last his whole prime (think he said something like when he is 25, 26, 27, 28, 29)

That's why he wanted to speak to the management... He wanted to know what kind of "process" to come...

He has some immaturity to overcome and listening to the German pundits is not helping him with the idea that he needs to improve. This is solely my opinion; but I think every time he goes home he is treated like the second coming of Dirk. In a nutshell, he is a rock star in the off season and is not really working to improve.

We can only wait and see if he goes all in on improving or not.

No he isn't treated like Dirk at all. His confidence is viewn as arrogance much more than in the US. Many doesn't know him at all and media coverage is often negative.

But at the moment American media starts to focus on negative aspects too. Coverage is full of claims he asked for a trade and even has the arrogance to ask for certain teams where he wants to be traded to, but but he didn't.

He said ATL is bis town and he wants to stay. (No Problem!)

He said he doesn't want to play his prime (25, 26, 27, 28, 29) for a Team at the bottom of the Eastern conference. (No Problem, an athlete who would be okay with that is a loser. )

He said he wants to talk to the management about that. (No problem, that could mean everything from just asking for more supporting cast, a short rebuild, the announcement that he wont extend his contract if ATL stays that bad until it ends. Of course it could mean asking for a trade but that's speculation.)

He should have ended his annonchments at this point in my opinion.

But he also said pacers and bucks are going in the right direction and he has friends there, (no Problem so far) and he would be okay with being traded there (not clever to say but no way that's a request to be traded to this Teams)

The biggest Problem I See in this whole topic is Prince that criticizing him (of that soldiers/generals tweet was for Dennis) and Dennis response. Because that could destroy Team chemistry or be a sign of already existing locker room issues.

(My take on this issue is: Prince gfys, Dennis the best player on the Team and he also is your floor General!)

Nah it wasn’t. We were saying it to make a point. Those of us who’ve been fans for over a decade remember the Hawks being notoriously BAD and still rooted for them. There’s another group of posters who believe we will groan and complain through this process because we won’t win a bunch of games.

I'm totally aware of that. I just wanted to have some fun... Who knows when we will have some - while watching the Hawks - again

  13. Is this the big "I'm a Hawks fan since..." topic?

I'm a Hawks fan since the day the one and only, future HOFer Dennis Schröder was drafted by former GM Ferry. Back in the day we had a New Coach also who even became COTY later.

I had no feed for the draft, was o. Vacation and was checking twitter all night until Dennis was finally drafted by a Team I barely knew anything about.

The following five seasons I watched nearly every game of them live and I will stay a fan forever... Ehhh... I mean... at least until Dennis gets traded...

So...we pick up Mack for some ungodly reason? That's it?

Actually its Sheldon Mac, not Shelvin Mack... But why would you do this? He's injured and expiring, isn't he? And if all you get for Payton is a 2nd rounder, there can't be a pick attached...
