  1. Mavs are one of the youngest teams in the league...Porzingis isnt really a big factor offensively right now. He is really bad in the post. But indeed, he would help any team on defense. And that is big, but otherwise these Mavs players have been really mediocre at best last years. The difference is that they play within themselves with Luka around. They didnt with Carlysle previous years...

Like a THJ, who who all know well....well with Luka, he doesnt get to create anymore and hes fine with it as Luka finds him where he is good. Resulting in THJ having the lowest TO rate on the team and in his career. Stuff like that....or Powell whos usage rate is way down, but is actually masterful on switches and general energy hustle....you got to have players buy in to those reduced roles and they will only do this effeciently when they know Luka will add to their value...

  2. Hello old friends. I come in peace as a Mavericks fanboy this time and a Hawks follower to give my 2 cents.

What people need to understand about Luka Doncic, is that he is doing what he is doing with greate ease and strong body. People talk about him being unathletic, but he is physically encredibly gifted(points to Emelianenko avatar for another of those unlikely examples)...Luka is heavy set, yet fast. He is tall enough to pass over double teams, unlike Trae or Harden. And most of all, he has that 10°/quarterback gene.

He makes other players better while taking the load...Trae should learn from that. I too find the Mavs roster a bit better and seasoned, but guys like Finney-Smith and Powell get to play within themselves and play to their strengths...while the years before they where all over the place taking bad shots.

So the biggest difference to me regarding Luka and Trae is that Luka also makes his teammates better like a true genetic 10°/quarterback. While much of Traes numbers come from the entire Hawks operation running for Trae...kinda like Allen Iverson, only that Trae doesnt have that physical talent. Which is the way to go to build up the fascinating asset that is Trae Young, but Luka is lightyears ahead because of the factors mentioned. He gets his numbers while making everyone around him better, not the other way around...

    Big difference...

The highlights showed him getting in the lane and finishing quite a few times.

How bad did he really look?

Dennis was taking us nowhere and Trae's ceiling and potential are nice and much higher than Dennis. Not to mention the #MeFirst revolution Dennis had going.

taking what anywhere? contending with dwight, a starting korver and an over the hill banged up millsap(love that guy for it).

and then the tanking year. taking what anywhere? you can see from these games not just trae being questionable, but it shows it wasnt dennis his fault that you have maybe 2 other players with nba starter talent on the roster. those two almost instantly did good with dennis.

im telling you. hawks did very bad recent years roster managing. each win whas a battle. and these recent moves just shows a continuation of bad management.

you could have had dennis, doncic, prince, collins and tank another year for number 5. doncic is far better, not only atm, but also as far as potential franchise player material goes. atm we have curry being a stud, but how many franchise players have been of his ilk?

doncic is the real deal. dennis is the real deal.

i just dont see the hype and we could have had doncic.

aside of what i thinkof doncic superior talents, someone who would actually be complimentary on the back court...

hence you got trae for dennis schröder and luka doncic, since dennis wont get you much in the market out there. so you loose two young studs under long contracts, perfectly fit for a rebuild of which one is regarded as the biggest european talent ever.

for the guy with the funny hair and logo shots

    its madness

You don't have to tear down Trae to build up Dennis. The Hawks have two capable point guards. That's a nice "problem" to have.

i just dont see the hype and we could have had doncic.

Taking away the Portland game that he left after 9 minutes due to injury; in his last three full games of action Trae has averaged: 23 PPG, 8 APG, 1.7SPG, 40% FG 41% 3ptFG 86% FT and 4 TVO in just 31MPG. Despite his low overall FG%, he is averaging his 23 points on just 15 shots due his high number of three pointers and free throws. This is stellar. For reference Schröder last year averaged 19 points on 17 shots. Per 36 minutes Trae has been putting up 26.6 PPG and 9.4 APG in his last three games. So yea. Not saying he is the second coming, but these are the numbers you hope your top 5 pick puts up in summer league play.

hence, his college numbers against basically college players...and sample sized by you for this streaky player...

    whats his plus minus pal?

how good is this TS% of a thing when your team is scrambling both on offense and defense all to complement this guys superstar leeway?

look. the nba is going to eat this kid alive. not only are they better defensive and offensive players but also better prepared team wise. and if his circus shots dont fall, the kid is less than useless.

  7. vor 4 Stunden, Atlantaholic sagte:

This is the type of performance everybody was hoping to see from Trae in summer league; a complete 180 from his first couple of games. A lot of us are breathing a nice sigh of relief lol

a 180 is your team making a giant comeback while you sit on the bench and then get thrown back in with the sl young unorganized pacers still shoock, making a couple of free assists?

a 180 is still only 7 assists in total and 5 turnovers. 28% 3 point shooting and minus 12 for the game?

no wonder hes the second coming. he can do no wrong.

Who the hell cares? This is a thread about summer league and you’re the only one in here talking about Dennis. Pages and pages done went by and you pop up like “since we’re talking about Dennis...” Made a whole account around another man that doesn’t even know you exist. Probably have Dennis Schröder bed sheets equipped with the blond patch.

I was born and raised in Atlanta. we can trade everyone from the team and go 0-82, I’ll still be here. I couldn’t care less about what you have to say about my squad. **** riding is not a valid form of transportation

i brought up doncic, whos part of the trae story. other posters of your ilk started bringing up dennis in response to me...because well...its me...and they are who they are, just like you are who you are...

and then all you got are petty insults wrapped up in fake concerns and amateur psychology

but lets do this. why are you even concerned with me liking a 19 year old 6 foot 1 one point-guard from my own country making it in the nba? a rare feat. only rubio made his way like that. its an inspiring thing to me to see even small german guys can make it. and well  we europeans are much more nationalistic when it comes to sports as we compete in that manner allot. so i took great joy in following dennis his journey from a third pointguard to a border line all star.

and on the other hand, why ae you obsessed with following a sportsball franchise where none is from your city? where the hawks might be elsewhere located all together? whats wrong with you bro?

LOL.  I liked the decisions Dennis made in those highlight clips.   I don't know what he shot for the game, but it did look like he had no people getting others involved in the offense.   When your shot isn't falling, you have to make others better.

he actually had a "very bad game", as a hawssquak poster pointed out all to eagerly earlier. and this whas days ago. just stumbled across the vid and seen another side to the story.

my point whas that dennis despite having the bad stats people love to bring up actually won them the game. all while having a cold. and against serbia...

but let that just fly over your head again

few days ago someone brought up dennis his national team numbers. first game those where great, but then for the second game those sucked and it went with the usual whining about typical dennis etc. that game highlights whas suggested by youtube to me today and it started of by telling that dennis had a cold and a cough, but...

it didnt matter when it mattered...

and wanna talk about passing trae?

The other Hawks sites are officially in panic mode, by the way.

Hawksquawk has always been the most objective and stable of the fan sites.  We're not off the cliff yet.

this site is also the only dennis hating site. yes, there is haters elsewhere too, but there they are instantly shut down by other posters than me.

maybe you people are cool...cool about having no idea and sticking with it.

Ok, I watched all of the highlights for trade and both SL games over and over to come up with my opinion. Trae is a rookie, Chemistry takes time to form the more he plays. Doncic, traded to the Mavs was the correct choice. He would've been disappointed with the Hawks knowing this team is rebuilding. They can work with Trae and help him transition into the NBA the right way

thats the only argument yet id agree with and i also had that feelz about doncic in a hawks uniform. hes a 19 year old legit superstar in basketball-europe and the barcelone/real madrid upbringing makes for the most exquisit divas imaginable. which can be held under controll, wehn the said diva feels the club or franchise he plays for is even bigger than him. and he alone wouldnt turn the hawks into a winning team year one, so frustration and failure will bring out the worst in such players. and i think management took that aspect in their evaluation.

but then again, what does that say about the hawks as a franchise?

Impact is making winning plays. Making teammates better. Executing on plays. Forcing the defense into tough decisions. Making the game easier for your team. Doing it possession by possession and forcing the opponent to gameplan and scheme to stop said player.

A role player can be an impact player, Kyle Korver in Atlanta for example. But Al was the key that made everything work. He was the one Cleveland gameplan for and others did as well but we less success than they had with Korver who just lacks the talent.

Someone like Dennis, teams just read the scouting report and try to force him to play into their hands. Overdribble, force him into the paint or force him to shoot a jumper but dont allow the mid range jumper or a driving lane.

What Trae could potentially do is everything. Shoot the jumper, space the floor with range,  create for others with the PnR, shoot the mid range, attack the defense and draw fouls. Offensively, there is nothing he can't do as a PG. But his polish isn't there right now and he's not athletic enough right now to force the defense hand. This is why development is needed for him.

Boom or bust means, if he doesn't improve, he likely out of the NBA. If he tremendously improves, you are talking about a MVP candidate and potential franchise changing player.

i know what all this means, but there is also negative impact...and dennis at least has elite speed and a weird lanky cat like body type to utilize his limited options. while he did improve his shooting and is still a few years away from his prime.

ur trying to stear this away towards comparing him to a negativistic view of dennis each time and make me argue for dennis. try instead to compare him with doncic when the season gets rolling, because that is my actual argument.

Just wondering where we are technically speaking.  Did it start last year or does it start this year?

they already hedged their bets aquiring the prince pick.  the season after whas already a rebuild via sucking and failed building up of tradeable assets.

  15. vor einer Stunde, NBASupes sagte:

Curry came in with bad shot selection and still has terrible shot selection.

Trae is a boom or bust prospect. He needs time to develop and he has to learn how to impact the game. Something Steph knew how to do instantly has he was a three year college player. He didn't leave as a freshman. Dennis was the worst player in the NBA as a rookie with Giannis. Both had to tremendously develop and both did. Giannis just never hit a ceiling and Dennis did.

Trae ceiling is a lot higher than Dennis. But Dennis is much better right now than Trae. Its not close either.

i agree hes essentially a boom or bust player, at least that whas the idea drafting him it seems. but look at the kids face...do you see a superstar? i see a g league or china face. not even a euro face. same goes for his physical tools. i give your hopes a 3% chance.

    mark my words

  16. vor einer Stunde, NBASupes sagte:

I always said it will take time for Trae to develop. The NBA is freakishly athletic. It will have to adjust. Once he does, his potential will go up fast and his impact will last a lifetime depending on the status of his health.

tell me more about "impact"? like the impact on your team mates when they go running up and down the floor, doing this and that, just to see this guy throw up shots from all over the place?

thats negative impact, unless you make allot of them each night and actually have your main game based on being very good at the basics  as well.

  17. vor 9 Stunden, nathan2331 sagte:

I want to hate on Trae like I did on draft night, but it won't change anything. I honestly don't think he's been that bad, I just have to hope Pierce will reel in his shooting in time. If Trae is going to be successful, it's gonna be as a 20-12 player, not 30-8. We really need to get a SG though, I don't know if Huerter is the answer (and he doesn't have to be).

hes actually been worse than his numbers indicate. all his production came when the other team no longer gave a lollypop and build a 20+point lead. and he did everything to get them those leads with those shooting heroics and shit team leading. hes honestly overhyped and its not doing him any good. he could be an ok unortodox rotation player one day, but thats about it. to base your team offensive strategy on a rookies ill advised shots falling is straight bullcrap. curry had to prove himself in various ways before taking so many trick shots.

his college fg% and TO rate translate very well in to what i think he would do if you just let him do what he feels like. hope dennis is back soon to humble him in practice.
