I've followed the Spurs closely since they drafted Timmy - I've always appreciated their style of play. When  everyone  was calling them boring I was 'this is such pure basketball'

When Bud came on board I was excited that we would get that type of bball here (even without the star player).  Before Bud, I spent a lot of time screaming at the TV and pounding my fist  and  screaming NOOOOOOOOOOOO - don't  shoot.  Think  I've only had one such outburst since.

Bud is still learning as a head coach, he  still has to work on in-game mangement  -  yes, he's been with Pop a long time - but you learn by doing and he's getting his chance.

Couldn't agree more Jay, and wow  you've been watching them longer than me. I started watching the Spurs in 2005, first NBA televised game i watched Spurs vs Pistons finals. Their humbleness and class act is the reason why i became a spurs fan. It also took me like 4 years to realized that they were playing beautiful unselfish team basketball.

Obviously, i'm a hawks fan now too, since Coach Bud arrived in Atlanta, i'll still won't forget that 19 game win streak, 4 all stars and them reaching ECF for the first time in Atlanta history. I really want to see Hawks win a championship.

I feel as though my own personal basketball IQ, the way I look at the game, the type of players I like to watch and have on the roster have all changed. It's kind of like Pop and Bud and the whole San Antonio coaching branch is a freakin basketball cult.

I mean before I liked guys like Smoove and wanted to land guys that were ultra athletic and have signature moves and such.

Now, I find myself wanting to look for players that are unselfish, do a couple of things particularly well, fit our system and are good financial investments.

I dunno, I've either matured in a basketball sense and understanding at a later age than I thought, or I'm part of this Spurs/Pop/Bud trickle down cult.

BTW...Don't get me wrong, it's not like I wouldn't have killed for a Stockton or Magic, I just feel like the players that I want now are kind of role guys that fit a bigger picture.

Any of you feel this way?

    Welcome to my world.

It's a team game, no matter how good you are.. You still have to rely, trust and respect your teammates.

So there is no reason.  I don't want JR Smith signing with me.  I want Tim Duncan or Steve Nash players that will appreciate a well run organization that prioritizes winning.

Also, Loyal to the organization, hardworker, character, unselfish team player and competitiveness.

As a white guy married to a black woman with biracial kids, I feel I can add some perspective here...

This was dumb as hell. There are ways you can joke around with your black friends and family members that you absolutely do not do with people who don't know you, let alone in a professional setting. It reminds me of when Bill de Blasio said something about running on CP time. You just can't say that publicly, even if your black family thinks it funny in private. Throw in this organization's shaky at best history with race, and this becomes even more egregious. What was he thinking?? Like I don't think he should be crucified, but he's not good enough at his job to get away with saying dumb shit like this.

Yea i don't get why Wilcox even said that joke carelessly, knowing the past history with Ferry.

I'm getting a little concerned now. I'm baffled at the fact this happened a month ago and yet the Hawks organization didn't get ahead of this when they had the chance to deal with it behind closed doors. Now it's in the hands of professional talking heads and internet trolls who will have no issue taking a massive dump on the Atlanta Hawks.  All that effort to regain credibility as an organization and generate good PR over the past few seasons, and now this? This isn't a good look for the Hawks.

Yea same, and they released it when Hawks started trading their players, what a timing. Now, i feel like Wes wilcox going to step down like Ferry did.

If that were the case, why on Earth would a Hawks executive be complicit in a plot to dismantle his own team?

I didn't say Wilcox trying to dismantle his own team(probably he is or not), what i meant is i feel like someone out there outside hawks organization trying to dismantle the hawks by insulting Hawks GM's racist etc...

Maybe Ferry is still controlling Wilcox and trying to take the Hawks down. This is too much I'm done with this topic. Sorry it's just too much. I'm not gonna end up saying anything more because it will offend someone either way.

    Onward and upward...

I don't think Ferry is trying to take the Hawks down, he visited Africa and apologized, Even Tim duncan said he's not racist. He stepped down on his own will, so hawks won't get distracted from the drama..

I really think someone trying to be evil, dismantle the Hawks, and get their key players...

    Folks, really?

I mean, I consider the header chosen for the deadspin story (and, then too, the header given this thread) to be racist.

How do you make that assumption, yet fail to include the kids? Right? If you want to take that angle that he presumes black wives to be angry as a rule, then he obviously must also be attacking mixed-race kids....

Who of us really think a husband thinks that way about his wife... or moreover, who thinks of his own kids that way?!?

    My opinion...

Some people pointing fingers here and writing stories and using their media platforms NEED TO BE CALLED on this. It is a prime example of media click-bait... finding whatever appears to be a bone and throwing it out there to see if anyone will chew on it.

    Damn.

I feel someone trying to make Hawks organization look bad or don't want to succeed. Also, the timing is funny, this article came out after Korver trade hmmm.
