  1. There is a reason you don't see this situation happen much players when they give their word honor it. Jordan should have waited to give his verbal consent instead of doing this. I hope other players don't do the same thing. If he has doubt put a clause in the contract he can ot out after one year. Now Dallas seems screwed because they might lose him.

  2. Agree this is a poor decision on Jordan's part. I just heard Jordan initiated the talks 2 days ago. If he goes back to the Clips it just means poor integrity on Jordan's part and the Clips going out of bounds to get their player back.Your word means nothing if you renege on it.Dallas set up their team to land Jordan now he wants to back out. Just put a clause in the his contract he can opp out after one year if he doesn't like it.

  3. Cleveland is going to have so many different line ups they can play with next season. That's the whole point of having a stacked roster. Look at  all the line ups GS  utilized in the playoffs.

Adding Williams essentially gives them a great back up point guard for the second unit and the eventual Irving injury. No more Delvawhatever sputtering all over the court with the rock in his hands. That team is loaded.

Yep I wish the Hawks could make moves like this instead of aimng towards marginal players like Wes Johnson etc etc. The Cavs were at the right time right place since they sucked for awhile after Bron left they had all those high draft choices. Bron came over allowing them to keep their high drafted picks giving them bird rights and making the move for Love. I still don't get how Bron can be signed he doesn't have Bird rights or early bird rights.

Now is the time to stack your lineup but unfortunately the Hawks can't due anything due to the cap. It all starts with bird rights (signing your own players over cap which is what alot of premier teams are doing signing their own over the cap.

  4. Looking way way way forward to the 2016-17 season, our roster looks to be strikingly similar to our upcoming 2015-16 roster, which will be a lot like last year. If you throw Taveras in, and the Hawks pick up team options we'd have 11 players returning, plus Bird rights on Horf. I'm sure his 5 year deal is already drafted with blanks in on the numbers for now. Baze is the only other contributor not team controlled. Horf could just blow the whole thing up by inking a cheaper deal with the Lakers, but if he doesn't we get our 2015-16 team back plus room for a shiny new free agent.

By my rough count we'll be at about $77 mil with Horf's cap hold. $10 mil over the current cap, which mean no FAs if the cap didn't rise. But we've all been told of the spike. The Hawks are in OK shape, unlike some teams, if it doesn't truly spike. With a cap of $80 mil the Hawks can dump Mack and add a guy on a 3 year $18 mil deal. That's certainly better than what they can do this year. If the cap is $90 mil, and we dump Mack and Scott (team options) we are talking about a max player. Kevin Durant or Dwight Howard anyone? The last article I read said $87 mil. Maybe not Kevin Durant money, but perhaps that's where we find our SF for a championship core?

The sad part about it even if the Hawks create enough cap space for another max player (even if Horford gets max) there really isn't any good options after Howard and Durant who everyone will be trying to get. I don't see Dwight leaving Houston it would wreck their franchise. Take a look at the available free agents for 2016 outside a few there aren't very many options. Also players who can be free agents due to player option the list is very short and not much to get. About the only way the Hawks are going to get a good player is if they deal Schröder or Teague in a trade. It's to bad the Hawks didn't have money this year since this would have been the best time to add talent not next year.

The Hawks won't let Horford walk they'll sign him to a max contract but will Horford put up big numbers in the playoffs? Although teague's contract is not up next year will he show up in the playoffs? While the Hawks had outstanding success in the reg season what if the 2 guys the Hawks count on put up lackluster numbers again in the playoffs. When do you make a big change because you can only blame injuries so long. Now if they shine in the playoffs great but I have come to the point where its best to show me instead of paying a ton of money just on the potential when it never materializes.

  5. The rich get richer.West is still a good player Spurs get another decent power forward. It's to bad the Hawks can't find a way to get a decent player to come to the Hawks. I know Hawks are over cap but this is when you find a way to add another piece. For 1.5 million Spurs get West. Yes San Antonio has tradition and are expected to possibly win a championship but maybe one day a decent free agent will sign with Atlanta after all the Hawks did win 60 games last year.

  6. I see the Cavs are interested in David West. Lets see they have TT,Love,Varajo and still want to add another power forward/center type going 4 deep. The Hawks lets see small forward Thabo ,maybe Korver then ???   The Cavs learned last year injuries are part of the game and still want to improve the Hawks well I hear their after the likes of Wes Johnson....championship.wild.gif

  7. The Cavs have something up their sleeve called hocus pocus. Just watch the magician pull another rabbit out of its hat. Pretty insane they can make all these moves within the cap. I know bird rules, if it wasn't bird rules they would find another way to get the players they want on their roster. Must be nice to have the king on your side.

  8. http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/07/04/report-cavaliers-have-huge-interest-in-david-west/

Looks like the Cavs may have some interest in signing David West. Geez they have Thompson,Varajo,Love and now may add West. Why doesn't the league just give them $120 million dollars salary cap while the rest of the teams have 67 million. All this  BS of the Cavs want to win now well most teams do want to win now. The Hawks you think they want to win a championship 5 yrs from now? No but they still only have 67 million to play with. the Cavs will go 4 power forwards deep if they get West the Hawks they have Sap and Splitter. I love how the salary cap makes it equal for all the NBA teams.

  9. Will visit this thread next year. I'd like to see the Hawks healthy and if they are and lose like they did vs the Cavs then I hope this injury excuse thing will finally go away and people will have to admit the Hawks don't have enough talent to get it done. Yes they won 60 in the reg season but take the 19 game winning streak away what was the record? Playoffs are different than reg season teams took away the outside shot and the Hawks didn't perform. Missing wide open shots how can you blame that on injuries? Terrible decison making for example Hawks had a 3 pt lead or was it 4 with 25 seconds (?) and almost blew the game.I think that game went into over time. Anyway I do question if the hawks have enough high BBIQ players.

Getting back to the question LA all day.

  10. Our system doesn't require one guy to carry the team.  I think that's what many squawkers are hoping for but that's not the case.   If one guy is carrying the team, then everything has failed and we're in trouble... ala Teague vs. the Pacers.

When our system is working at full capacity, everybody on the court contributes and there's nobody for the defense to key in on.  That's the best part of what we have.

See that is the problem while the Hawks system doesn't require one guy to carry a team you better have a 10 pt lead in the closing minutes of a game or your pretty much sunk with a loss. Their are no dependable scorers when it comes to crunch time. You saw the playoffs players seemed hesitate to shoot.Hawks players kept passing the ball letting the clock to run down and finally chucking up a bad shot at the end. A reliable scorer wants the ball at the end and will get you a basket if you need it. Give me LA all day. Sap can't guard bigger power forwards gets eaten up on the boards.LM can get you a rebound and score when he is needed.

  11. Interesting the big markets have to have the superstars to win yet the Hawks put up 60 wins without a superstar. Why the Lakers and Knicks aren't looking at Atlanta's success is just dumb. Yeah you need one superstar for crunch time but these teams could still build a good reg season team if they played it smart.
