  1. Seano you are up

Ok, I will take Chuck Hayes, another young rebounding big man.

He's quite a bit more efficient on the boards than Nene (Nene 12 rebounds per 48 minutes, Hayes 13.8 RB per 48), so I feel at this point I've got a veritable crapload of quality big men and a really deep rotation of bigs. A little bit of this, a little bit of that, add it all up and damn I'd love to see this team play! :)

  2. That is why I thought 6'6'' DeAndre Liggins and his roughly 7 foot wingspan was intriguing with our pick this year. If we get a viable big man out of it, that is worth more but I think Liggins will be successful for the reasons you mention.

I like Damien. He's a very hard-working player. If we had a team full of guys who worked that hard, or as others have noted if we could somehow morph Marvin and Damien together so you'd get a player with Marvin's physical gifts and Damien's heart and hustle, then we'd be all set.

  3. Executives from NBA teams have been given a long list of people connected to players that they will not be allowed to communicate with during a lockout.

The list includes agents, family members of players, employees, amongst many others.

"I'm not even sure I can talk to my own cousins," one general manager tells Yahoo! Sports.

Ugly is probably an understatement. It is looking really bad. There's labor war, but this seems more like a case of labor armageddon. They're saying the sides are so far apart that there's about a 75% chance the season may be canceled in its entirety, and that is just straight-up shitty. Totally sucks.

  4. Ok, I guess here I will go with Kirk Hinrich.

We all know what he can do. Veteran floor leadership, highly intelligent, can knock down the 3-ball, careful with the ball/low turnovers, just a Steady Eddie type that's about as reliable as can be- and he's only 30 years old, so it's not like he's ancient history by any stretch of the imagination. My type of point guard who's versatile enough to also play the 2 guard spot. Totally non-flashy, just a very solid player, and I'm glad he's an Atlanta Hawk.

And that would leave me with a rotation of:

    PG- Conley/Hinrich

    SG- Wade/JJ Barea

    SF- G. Hill/T. Allen

    PF- Aldridge/West/Millsap

    C- Nene/Aldridge

Ok, I believe that Nicholas is on the clock. I will text him, though it looks like he may have gone the way of the dodo bird so far as this draft is concerned.

  5. I'm still into it and wanting to go all the way to the end. It seems like most of the drafters are still into it, as there are just a few who have dropped out. But yeah, this thing has definitely slowed to a crawl. Not particularly worried about that one way or the other though.

  6. Well the problem with trading for Al Jefferson is that he is not a center. He might have the size to play center, but he lacks the mentality and/or desire (and lacks greatly in the defensive abilty to play the 5) just as much as Horford does, and as we all know, Horford doesn't want to play center either. So basically we would be trading Smoove off only to replicate the problem of positional redundance, too many 4's and not enough 5's, so what would be the point in that, and why not just keep Josh in that case?

  7. boom, I'm guessing the creator of this thing is skipped, I'll alert Seano. He is on the clock as of right now.

    Danke schein, Supporter.

Welp, I reckon here I will take Grant Hill.

He is no spring chicken at 38 years old, but the way I look at it is that for a 38 year old man, he has still got a good amount of tread left on the tires due to all the time he's missed throughout his career because of injury, and that's been exemplified by his last 3 seasons in Phoenix in which he's played in 82, 81, 80 games (and has started 228 of those 243 games, averaging right around 30 minutes per game and playing very effectively and well in those 3 seasons. Everyone knows how smart a player he is, as he is considered one of if not *the* smartest players in basketball, and he brings a ton of positive attributes to the table, intangible things like smarts and leadership, and then his statistical accomplishments like the fact he's an outstanding shooter (.485% career from the field, which is superb for a SF), he is money at the FT line, averages 6.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.3 steals per game, and his 3 point shooting has blossomed in Phoenix....and his defense often seems to get overlooked, but it shouldn't, as he is really fricken good defensively. He narrowly missed making the NBA All-Defensive second team this past season, and he has no real weaknesses as a player beyond the fact he's 38 years old. Across the board, he is as complete a player as there is in basketball, and where it not for all those unfortunate injuries early on in his career, we would be talking about Grant Hill, future Hall of Famer.

And 01d0rd3r is up and has been notified.

  8. Today you're a new GM and you're Given the Choice... You're starting your team...

    Westbrook or Amare?

Westbrook. Give me the franchise point over the oft-injured big man every single time.

    Westrbook or Melo?

Westbrook. Melo's a volume shooter, a premier scorer, but give me the franchise PG.

    Westbrook or Monta?

    Shirley, you can't be serious?

Westbrook or Love, Jefferson, or Noah?

    Westbrook, Westbrook, and Westbrook.

    Westbrook or Dirk??

Well Dirk for right now, but Dirk's 33 years old, so gimme some Westbrook.

I easily take Amare, Melo, or even Monta over Westbrook. Dirk and Love also have a shot.

  9. And maybe all these excuse would play out the way you like. But for right now... It is what it is, there are more talented players that were drafted behind him. Some of them didn't fall into age

I do NOT think Westbrook was picked too early or was a bad pick in any way whatsoever. I mean the dude was 2nd team All-NBA at the ripe old age of 23, so how is that bad again? Hell, I considered Westbrook very strongly with my first round pick, but I just couldn't bring myself to pass on Dwayne Wade.

  10. Yeah, I have to confess to being a little bit (or a lot) surprised by all these rumors which are suddenly springing up regarding the Hawks. I see on the ESPN front page there's a blurb to an insider article saying that the Hawks could move either Horford or Smith, and apparently there are rumors out there concerning the possibility of Joe being on the move too.

The Josh rumors I'm not that surprised at, because you could kind of see that one coming and even Bill Simmons was predicting several months ago that Josh Smith probably wasn't long for Atlanta. But the Horford and (especially) Joe rumors are a big surprise to me. I was expecting nuttin but a quiet and dull off-season for us, especially while the labor issues are getting resolved, but suddenly things have gotten really interesting, and I did not see that one coming. I'm not sure I'm on board with a big blow-up of the roster, but we'll see what happens.

  11. Not many people have made TERRIBLE picks, but there are a few that I was baffled to see. Here is my round-by-round breakdown (sorry for including myself if I decide to, it just means I think I made a dope pick).

Round 1 Best Pick- Hard to choose, because a lot of people already had an idea in their mind of who they wanted to build their team around, and nothing could change that.

Round 1 Worst Pick- I don't really like the Horford or Westbrook picks. But obviously, those owners knew what they wanted. I jut think it was too early for a little-big guy in Al, and I think Westbrook is terribly overrated.

Round 2 Best Pick- LaMarcus Aldridge- I was tempted to take him over Amare, but it was a few picks too early. Aldridge may be skinny, but the way Seano built his team, I think the pick works really well.

Round 2 Worst Pick- Brook Lopez- Just too soft to me, though people value size and youth, so it could have been worse I suppose. Noah was also an odd choice to me.

Round 3 Best Pick- Kevin Martin- Sorry for choosing myself, I was just surprised he fell so far down to me. Elite scorer, gets to the line a ton. Skinny and not good defender, but still. Honorable mention to Josh Smith.

Round 3 Worst Pick- OJ Mayo- I think it was way too early to pull the trigger on Mayo. Sure, he is a young scorer, but remember a few months ago Memphis didn't want him anymore. Dishonorable mention to Kendrick Perkins.

Round 4 Best Pick- Gerald Wallace- Brings defense, energy and toughness to whatever team he is on.

Round 4 Worst Pick- Kris Humphries- Is 01d0rd3r secretly Kim Kardashian?

Round 5 Best Pick- Some really good picks here. I'm gonna have to go with Favors, Millsap or Derozan. Favors is the biggest question mark though, could be a bum still.

Round 5 Worst Pick- Ed Davis- Haha, Ed Davis. Sure, 7.7 & 7 for a rookie isn't bad. But he got his stats on a bad Toronto team, is a 215 pound center, and in my opinion was a terrible pick by the Raptors. No hate Whassup.

Round 6 Best Pick- Lamar Odom, David Lee or Carlos Boozer- Despite my dislike for LO and Booz, they are good value picks. Lee was as well, especially if you can live with his defensive shortcomings.

    Round 6 Worst Pick- Coaches.

Round 7 Best Pick- Good round value wise. A lot of players could be argued as the best pick, but i'm gonna have to go with Devin Harris. The fact that he went after Teague is mind-boggling.

Round 7 Worst Pick- Jeff Teague- ONLY BECAUSE of the PG talent that was still on the board.

Round 8 Best Pick- Darren Collison or John Salmons- Both are good value for the 8th round, and I like Salmons a lot, especially as an off-the-bench scorer. He is a smart veteran who plays the game without complaints, and a dope beard.

Round 8 Worst Pick- Brendan Haywood or Omer Asik- Not bad because both teams needed the size, I just think Haywood is getting chubbier and lazier, and i'm not that sold on Asik yet.

Round 8 Tossup- Anthony Randolph is an ABSOLUTE BEAST. But that hasn't translated into anything more than a few great games on bad teams. He has the ability to be a 20 & 10 player, no joke. But he could also be out of the league in two years.

Well done. I don't necessarily agree with all your thoughts here, but I totally dig the effort you put into picking your best and worst.

  12. Heh, I'm shocked there are three pages worth of argument over Vince Carter, as at this point he is highly marginal at best and will be turning 35 years old in a couple of months. If we could get him for $1M or less on a one year deal to come off the bench, I wouldn't mind that, but anything beyond that though in my opinion would be a foolish waste of money on a player who is aging very rapidly. There are much better bench options out there I think.

  13. I've looked for good basketball sims so we could simulate a season (or preferably seasons), but I have had no luck with finding any. I play a lot of baseball sims, and was hoping for an NBA equivalent to the Sports Mogul or Out of the Park baseball sim games, and I would happily purchase something like that, but I'm just not seeing anything even comparable to that out there. There's also What If Sports, though I know less than nuttin about that. So if anyone has any ideas, suggestions, recommendations or whatever RE: trying to sim this thing out, feel free to give me a shout.

  14. It's pretty cool. I like that font a lot. It reminds me of the font the Rockets use, and in my opinion they've got one of the best and most apt logos in the NBA, paying tribute to the Johnson Space Center and the history of Houston as a city that was integral in the development of the space program.

I also like this guy's Munich Warhawks logo. I think that's really cool, however I'm about 99.999999% certain that given the recent history of Germany, no German team would ever adopt a warlike moniker or logo.

  15. I don't see it as that bad an offer. They get that young, exciting, high scoring SG that the Squawk was creaming over just a week ago, get a young once productive center even though his soul has been swallowed up in one of Don Nelson's tequila shots and a PF/C sophmore prospect who's got potential.

    Dwight

    Lee

    Wright

    Probably draft Burks

    Curry.

And Dwight will love having bible study with Mark Jackson who just so happens to be a pastor.

Just take on a bad contract and this appeals to Orlando especially since it's out of conference.

Can't wait for Houston's offer. McHale with Dwight could be a sight.

Well given the element of uncertainty and the very real risk that he might walk out of wherever he is traded to at the end of next season anyway, that's probably a fair offer for an unsigned Dwight. However if I was the GM in this case, I wouldn't make the deal unless either Dwight is signed OR I know for an absolute fact and that it is an ironclad certainty that I could sign him to a long term contract. Otherwise, no way. I would not give up trading assets like that for a one year rental player, and it's not like Dwight is gonna suddenly elevate the Warriors into true contention status, because he's not. They've got deeper problems than the lack of a dominant C.

  16. Keep in mind that

    A) this is an offer without a guarantee Dwight would resign and they do have the capspace and are sending out enough assets to take on one of Orlando's bad contracts.

    B) it's the first salvo in what's to be a (hopefully) season full of trade offers for Dwight. The bar is set so teams now have to up the ante from GS original offer to get the Magic interested.

Remember how the Nets got New York and others to keep adding assets for Melo

    Good points.

  17. According to Hoopshype.com, GS has offered Monta Ellis, Ekpe Udoh, and Biedrins for Dwight and Orlando is actually giving the offer serious thought. We can offer Horford, Marvin, and some more pieces to get Dwight here. GS has new management and it's obvious they're trying to make that team into a contender. I'm sure we can afford Dwight and he would be an asset to Teague, JJ, and Smoove, We can build around those players and could potentially become a dominant force in the league.

Wow. That seems to me to be a pretty low-ball offer for Dwight. It's so early in the process though, you know there will most likely be much better offers and many more teams trying to get involved before it's all said and done.
