  1. Yeah I pray the Hawks match and that they haven't fractured their relationship with Smoove beyond repair. :jeer:
  2. here is the link http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/sports/h..._grizzlies.html This takes away all sign-trade-possibilities since he has signed the offer sheet. So we either match the offer or lose both Childress and Smith in the same offseason for nothing
  3. Evans is right on the mark with this quote... "Obviously, it's important when you go to the playoffs and hadn't been in a long time, you probably don't want to shake things up too much," Evans said. "In my opinion, one of the biggest mistakes teams make is when you're having success and then you try to bring in different pieces that might upgrade your situation and you end up downgrading it. And now you've set yourself back. You can't afford to take those steps back." I hope Sund and the ASG were listening! Get Josh Smith signed now!
  4. Why are owners telling fans how to be root for the team? If they want people to show up and sit in the seats, the owners have to make the finacial commitment to put a quality and entertaining product on the court. Thus you have to pay your free agents. We have spent the last 3-4 years to develop Childress and Smith with the whole goal being build the core through the draft and add role players to fill out the roster. Those last 3-4 years were a waste if Smith signs the qualifying offer and bolts for nothing next offseason and we have already lost Childress for nothing. How is that smart basketball decisions? How can the ASG say they are commited to winning with a straight face? Are these owners dumb enough to actually believe what they are saying?
  5. The Phoenix Suns confirmed that they did inquire about a possible sign and trade with the Hawks for forward Josh Childress before Childress left for Greece, the East Valley Tribune is reporting. The Suns did have the $8 million trade exception from the Kurt Thomas trade with Seattle to work with (which expired on July 21), but the deal almost certainly would have included either Leandro Barbosa or Boris Diaw in an attempt to balance the contract and keep the Suns from taking a further luxury tax hit. Childress' asking price was higher than the Suns anticipated, and Atlanta was cold on the idea of a sign and trade, leaving the deal dead before it got off the ground. http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/538..._for_childress/ Original reports said nothing other teams were offering in a sign and trade for Childress would crack into the Hawks rotation. Barbosa isn't the greatest player on the face of the Earth, but he has great speed and athletecism. He could have fit in well with our young athletic team and we wouldn't have lost Childress for nothing. If we would have acquired Barbosa it would make the Evans signing be better since he would then be our 7th/8th man instead of being our 6th man now. Championship contending teams continue to build and add proven talent (like the Rockets acquiring Artest). Sekou Smith said he believed the Hawks had reached a point of no return with Josh Smith (meaning only options are sign and trade or Smith signing the 1 yr/3.2 million deal). Players of Josh Smith's caliber (actually I think Smith is better than all the other restricted free agents that have already signed but for the sake of argument we will say they are equal) are getting 11-12 million per yer. We are telling Smith he is only worth 9 million. How can we receive equal value for a guy that the market deems a 12 million per yer player but we view as 9 million player. Teams won't overpay us for Smith because we are not in much of a position of power (although we should be since he is restricted) because we have angered Smith. The Hawks can't let this hang in the air until late August because it puts us behind the rest of the teams in the league. They should apologize to Smith and offer him a fair market value of 12 million annually. The guy is only 22 and is contiunuing to improve! Pay up ASG!
  6. Broussard originally said 6 years/60 million and then learned and edited it in his next blog saying it was actually 6 years/57 million. It barely an annual raise over the 5 year/45 million offer before last season. A players value increases from one year to another if said players production increases (not to mention the team improvement and making the playoffs for the first time in 9 years). I think Smoove wants 12 million a year average (6 yr/72 million). ASG has stuck to their guns long enough and its time to give in a little bit now instead of having Smith sign the QO for 3.1 million and become an unrestricted free agent or trading him an old expensive player (Odom) that doesn't help our team any moore than Smoove. It's not good business sense to anger the fan base (that is just starting to return to the stands after the 9 year playoff drought and is finally energized by an exciting playoff series against the now NBA champs) and have disgruntled players in the locker room. I feel the Hawks have a strong nucleus for years to come if they build around JJ, Smith, and Horford. If Acie continues to develop at the pg position and Marvin becomes a more consistent threat instead of the short flashes he shows, the Hawks could be in the top 4 of the Eastern Conference for the next 5 to 10 years.
  7. True you don't give a player a large contract because someone else signs a lucrative contract however Smith averaged 7 more points a game than Biedrins, can change the tone of games with his shot blocking and dunks, and I would bet brings in more revenue for the Hawks than Biedrins does for the Warriors. We felt he was worth 9 million a year before last season and he improved during the season. In fact he has worked hard each summer to improve on certain aspects of his game and improved his overall game and production each season. If the man wants 12 million a year, make him happy and give it to him. He is worth it to our team. The man is only 22 and continues to get better. A six year contract includes the prime years of his career and would end when he is 28-29 years old. It's not like the ASG would be investing in an old, oft-injured player. There have been far worse investments and contracts given to mediocre players such as Adonyl Foyle. It shouldn't be the end of the world for the ASG to give up 1-2 more million a year to Josh than they think he is worth instead of bringing in someone like Lamar Odom. Lamar Odom does not make us a better team and doesn't have the superstar potential of Josh Smith. The ASG needs to quit dragging their feet!
  8. A fair market contract for Josh Smith should basically be set with the Biedrins and Monte Ellis contracts. Smith should get a 6 yr/66-72 million contract from the Hawks and end all the ridiculous sign-and-trade proposals. http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/537...h_golden_state/
  9. Sekou changed it slightly and added little bit but still has BK advising Woodson...its been under review by the editor so it must be must be legit...here is the link... http://www.ajc.com/hawks/content/sports/ha...odson_0301.html
  10. I know Juwan is certainly not great but it's not like there is a bunch of big men of Bill Russell's caliber available and are willing to work for the league minimum. Its just another option to go along with Dale Davis. Neither of them are going to light the court on fire but they can take over the limited minutes of Shelden and Lorenzen and be somewhat serviceable. We don't have the luxury of being too picky at this point...we just need another big body. Dale and Juwan both have playoff experience like JJ and Bibby.
  11. Juwan Howard would be a servicable veteran big man for the Hawks if the Mavericks release him to do the Jason Kidd deal. Mavs Will Waive Howard Or Fazakas If Kidd Deal Goes Down February 18, 2008 - 5:41 pm Dallas Morning News - The Dallas Mavericks will have to waive one player before completing their proposed deal with the New Jersey Nets for Jason Kidd, according to the Dallas Morning News. The Mavericks will need to make space for Keith Van Horn, who they plan to sign and trade to the Nets. The Dallas Morning News has listed veteran Juwan Howard and rookie Nick Fazakas as the most likely Mavericks to be released.
  12. Quote: First of all, I am REALLY excited about this trade...If for no other reason than we had to give up basically just expirings to get him. Now here are the questions... 1) What the deal with Bibby for this year?? I see he's only played in 15 games and is only averaging 13.5 ppg and 5 assists...Hopefully we can expect a bit more than that...also he is only shooting around 40% from the field (even though his 3 pt % is awesome). What can we expect from him? Is he healthy? 2) I am under the impression he is a shoot first PG, but how good of a passer is he? 3) Is he a good penetrator? 4) I also am under the impression he is a pretty weak defender...Is that right/wrong?? 5) Does he go well with a running offense? Is he good at pushing the ball up the court? 6) Where would you rank his overall skill out of all the PG's in the NBA? Hopefully he will REALLY open up this offense!! 1)He has had to get back into a groove after coming back from his injury. Basically he has been going through his training camp. Now he has played enough to be at the level players are on opening day. He has played much better of late. 2)He certainly isn't Kidd or Nash but he has to be a better passer than AJ and Lue. 3)I don't know...you would have to ask his wife. 4)After watching Lue attempting to play defense Bibby will look like Bruce Bowen on defense. 5)Yes, he has been very successful running an up-tempo offense. 6)top 10
  13. I wonder how the conference call is going...
