No, he's a core piece for them.
Just dang. We could have drafted Tari Eason or Kessler and we're stuck with this spaced-out bum Griffin.

Jazz are one of the quiet teams trying to get Murray. They can outbid anyone for him IMO.
Any chance at Walker Kessler? Would be a defensive improvement in the front court that we've needed.

Not that he needs my support but I can corroborate the first statement. A Knicks framework for DJM is in place from both sides but has been put on hold as other teams have entered the mix. Not sure how long they wait now and I still think he’s moved by deadline but there was a legit chance he was gone today and I’m not sure that happens anymore
What could a Knicks trade look like again?

We can go with the Larry Brown/Iverson model. Just let Trae have total control of the offense and surround him with role playing defensive minded bigs and wings.
That model won a bunch of rings and stuff, right?

Strong brotherly bond between Jalen and Dejounte that I didn't know about (from Peachtree hoops):
“Dejounte came in and immediately was a big brother to me,” said Johnson of Murray. “Took me under his wing, gave me advice. Right now we’re really close. Having that guy, having that leader to get on you when he knows you’re not doing what you’re capable of. If I pass up on the shot he’s that guy getting on me in the timeout ‘Shoot the ball, shoot the ball, you’re in the gym working on that.’ He sees me working. Having Dejounte around this year that was great personally and for my growth.”
Similarly, Murray shared how he felt about Johnson and how he gravitated to him.
“That’s my guy,” said Murray of Johnson. “I told him I’ll be around. I want him to work out where I’m going to be. Told him I want him to come with his boys, his family, whoever he wants just to come be around. I really appreciate who he is as a person. That’s one thing I look into people. I don’t care how good you are at basketball, or whatever you do. Who you are, how you treat people — I see the way he would treat a janitor, the coach, the GM, the owner, you treat them all equally. That’s important for me, that’s how I live by. For him, I just see a great person and a guy with a great work ethic. I told him ‘Don’t rush greatness, don’t rush your journey. Enjoy the ups and downs, the playing, the not playing because it’s bound to happen for you. Anything you dreamed of if you continue to work and be a great person it will all happen. That’s my guy, I want the best for him and I’m going to support him until I can’t no more.”

Grant Williams has underwhelmed in Dallas, may not be a good fit for them. If they wanted out, could they trade Grant into our TPE and gain a TPE for themselves?

The emergence of JJ is the one thing that brings hope right now. We either have to build the frontcourt around him or move him to rebuild the frontcourt as Quin wants it. I don't really care which.

We gave up Kevin Huerter and John Collins for a box of cracker jack's and a diet coke. Pretty depressing.
I'm pretty convinced that winning in the NBA comes down to having real difference makers in talent at 2 to 3 positions. Guys who can get done what they want to get done in the pivotal moments of a game, the "winning time".
Guys like Huerter and Collins are good players, and great to have on your team while they are more valuable than their contract. However, the NBA is full of guys like them: solid player, on second contract, who is now paid solid player vet money (or more). We have a bunch of those guys on contract already (Capela, Hunter, Bogdan, Murray, Kong). What Huerter and Collins can bring to a basketball team is more than replicated by the mid-level players we continue to employ. You need some guys like that for depth, but you don't need 7 of them.
Stockpiling those mid dudes makes little difference in winning or losing, IMO. Get what you can for them when the situation dictates that you need to move them along.
We have 1, maybe 2 DUDES on this team. We need another. Almost any trade in any combination of replaceable level players that returns a "dude" should and must be considered. Otherwise we are stuck on the treadmill.

All this about Siakam....ugh. Did we decide there is no shot at Alex Caruso? I haven't been keeping up.

Could Hunter get you a pick and a Derozan rental? What else would we have to add? I would rather play Saddiq starting minutes than Dre at this point.

Before @NBASupes says it again: the most valuable player in the NBA is a two way wing player. Who are we getting for Dre that is an upgrade that is a reasonable trade target?
I don't like Dre. I think he's been a bust as a #4 pick and TS gets a free pass for how badly that draft worked out. That being said...it isn't to upgrade from him.
I'm totally down for it but what is a cost we can pay? We kinda shot our shot in the DJM trade.
I'm with you. When I look around the league i honestly don't see how we can get it done. I don't see a target. Maybe the target is getting a pick and an older player like Derozan. Aiming for the older player can be the value play while we take another swing at SF in the draft.

Looking at the wrong guys.
The problem of this team mainly has to do with the inactivity of De'Andre Hunter.
We have a 6-8 dude on this team who can play decent defense, but is not an impact defender. He is a very poor rebound for his size. He has average athleticism, which limits how active he is. And overall, he's soft.
Everyone has asked for Trae to up his defensive intensity, and he's done just that. But what about Dre? We need exponential improvement from Dre, and we're just not getting it.
The fact that this guy is STILL our worst rotation player from an analytic standpoint, is crazy to me.
Adding Jevon, Dennis, and Delon to this team, does not solve the issue we have with the frontline defense. These are all backup PGs who won't see more than 18 minutes per game. Our bench unit is actually OK, when Hunter is off the floor. It's the starting unit WITH Hunter that is the problem.
I've said this for 4 years now, but I truly believe that Hunter would be more effective, if he played the 2. He doesn't want to mix it up in the paint, so just play him at the 2. That way, we can get a 3 in here that is active and can provide more defensive intangibles than Dre does.
It's not a coincidence that we made a significant playoff run basically WITHOUT Dre.
Don't trade for a backup PG. Trade Dre for an energy SF.
I've been feeling the same for a couple years now. Consolidation trade with Dre + stuff for a better SF.
I'm also starting to think that either Trae or DJ has to go, but it's a bit early for me to push that button.

Liking the rotation and Hunter's fit in it. He seems comfortable and healthy. So far so good for Hunter, and with Jalen breaking out it seems that we've absorbed the loss of JC better than I expected.

This is less than Kevin got in his extension from the hawks (4/65 if you remember). Why do we not have Kevin again? .
Rather Kevin than Bey.
-
What is going on here? Great value and a big boost to the ceiling of the current Hawks incarnation.

Mods have been doing the opposite of this. This thread is open for discussion and all the posted information about possible Hawks transactions is copied into a locked reference thread that is pinned at the top of homecourt.
That makes the mods job too hard. Imo

As I've said before, this should not be an open thread. It should only be open for posting by you, campster, supes, and anyone else who has a channel to team leaks.
Then we would have a separate "comment" thread for people to open discuss what you guys post in here. That way everyone can find the relevant information easily.

Good arguments for recouping value for Capela. I could see that as being a good option.
Let's also consider the other way to go, which kg mentioned. Keep Capela, but reduce his role (and value) and drive up Okongwu value by giving him many of Capela's minutes. Then trade Kong at the height of his value and extend Capela on the cheap. If Kong really does take a huge leap you still have the option to sign him if there isn't a good trade out there. If he flounders you are protected by the prospect of extending Capela cheaply.
Of course this only works if your coach is in complete lock step with your front office.

Why are we so keen to get rid of Capela too? Okongwu is not a complete player, and I'm not sure he ever will be. If he doesn't develop some offensive game, what the hell is he even? On the plus side, strong character, big energy, fundamentally sound. On the minus side, no ability to stretch the floor, tweener size, limited offensive game (no faceup game, no middie, unexceptional handle and distribution). Of all the guys......he's one of them. Capela is what he is, but he at least is signed to a good deal. I'm afraid Kong will get massively overpaid and it will be Collins all over again.

Hunter + AJ + 1st + Capela ( dealt somewhere else )
If that's what will get Siakam, you pull the trigger and do it.
Way too much. Siakam contract situation lowers the price. Hunter plus 1 other asset (AJ, 1st, Capela, JJ). Could add multiple second rounders, but that would be my final offer.

We should not try and top that offer. I think Indiana has a better offer potentially.
