Look, I don't disagree with either of you guys.  I'm NOT saying we could get BETTER value for him right now.  Not saying that at all, I AM saying, you can get that value any day of the week.  I am also saying that if THIS is the best you get, you have to CYA and make it look better for the franchise's sake.  I would rather have gambled this all the way through the draft and free agency...  Even if you packaged him and our pick to move up, you don't want this to haunt the franchise.  It's not "what if, what if, what if..."  It's happened.  Many times.

This deal, right now...?  This isn't the deal and SURELY not to NY under any circumstances.  I'm not a fool.  I've been watching this game for going on 4 decades.  I liked Cam, but I have no problems with us getting rid of him with the info that's come out.  This ain't it though.  This is just not it.  Not unless there is something else coming or if Knox was the target or if our coaches/players/scouts have weighed in and are sure this guy isn't going to go off.

This could be really bad and if history is of any use, we take a different route and hide him in a different (and better) trade.

I don't get the angle of "why to NYK"?  I mean, if you don't like his game and future value enough to move him, it means you think he's not helping you win.  I want to help NYK not win.  This should help bigly.

  2. I can't defend the idea of resurrecting Knox cause I think he's shit.  However, we did add value to THJr who was maltreated in the dysfunction of NYK.  It has happened.

But like I said, I'm not going to die on that hill or even defend it.  There's no shortage of value and reason to support the return that we got with the pick, without defending Knox.

2 2nds and minimum salary match.

This is what people don't get.  What does it say to you when this is the straight-faced offer?  Other teams don't know that we wouldn't pay Cam.  There's LOTS of other things we could do to open up space if we decided to make Cam a centerpiece.  Huerter could be moved just as easily as he got paid.

And yes, we shopped him which limits the return value somewhat, but if you've decided you need to move on, what do you do?  NOT shop him?  HOPE that someone comes to you?  Get out of here with that foolishness.

  4. Haliburton.  We don't need a huge move.  He gives you the secondary playmaking and flexibility to play point that people like about Simmons, but without the 33MM salary, the lack of shooting, and the shitbird agent.  He gives you a plus defender, though obviously not as great or versatile on defense as Simmons.  I'm okay with it being Simmons if we can do it without losing JC, but even then I think a Haliburton deal makes just as much sense and is way less risky.

Since Hali would need to be paid in a few years, center the deal around Kevin Huerter.  We can free some cap room for the Kings by taking back Barnes (if they wanted), and we could ship them something else they would like.  Perhaps Jalen Johnson and a pick.  Delon.  We have a nice variety of assets and picks for the Kings shopping pleasure.  Making this more likely is that we have a great relationship with the Kings front office and have been a frequent trading partner.

    Grey Mule, get in mate!!!!

Thanks…I missed this if it was on the podcast …but that’s good to know and I will take it as a sure thing since it came from Woj but Rerouting Harris is not going to be easy ….definitely worth a shot to keep the deal alive though.

who in their right mind would take Harris contract ? It’d have to be contender for sure!

Lakers not fitting with westbrook, those salaries will match.

    Houston and John Wall.

    OKC into cap space.

Dallas is always up for doing something weird and stupid.  Porzingis?

Hawks were taking on guys with $17 million dollar expiring contracts for one 1st rounder. Harris is +$20 mil and 2 years.

We also have rookie scale guys who are expendable.  It seems to me that this could really get done.....i'm still not sure it makes us any better though.  It sure is interesting to think about.

I think it would cost more than 1 st for OKC to take on Harris' next 2 years at $37 and $39 million.

Yeah maybe.  I just remember when our best player was #00 Cap Space, we often would have loved to trade him for a starting player who could give you 20 points and a 1st round pick.  OKC gives up nothing.  So it comes down to what other options they have for that space as to whether or not they would consider it.

  8. Honestly OKC could absorb Tobias Harris by sending out just a little salary.  If they also get a first rounder for their trouble to help the rebuild, I think they might have an appetite for that deal.

Philly clears the Harris money and the clears a spot for Collins who spaces the floor nicely for Embiid.  And of course we have plenty of other parts and assets to make Philly whole for the loss of Ben Simmons.  Bogi is often mentioned, and then there are the picks.  What more can Philly want?

From Atlanta side it's more tricky.  Do we like JC for Ben?  I *think* so?  But you are definitely betting the rebuild on it.

Literally, WTF did I walk in to today. I was so pissed after the game last night that I shut down all my basketball news until just now out of sheer boredom.

I tried to keep up with this thread and everyone's takes. Here is mine:

Cam was expendable to me. But not for nothing. I felt like he was the best bargaining chip that we had available based on upside and ability. I thought he was worth way more in a package deal for a big time player than what we got for him straight up (and Solo)

I am not particularly worried about him going to NY and killing it, mainly because he has always shrunk in the presence of RJ. RJ makes Cam turn in to a Beta dating back to their Duke days. I do not expect this to change now.

My money is on Cam going off against us every time we play him for the rest of his career, but that's about it. Until he gets a shot to be the main guy, he won't ever reach his full potential. Doesn't look like that will be he case in NY either. Thibs will totally unleash him defensively though. That much is for certain.

If I'm wrong I'm wrong. And good for him if so.

Either way, I'm not happy about this at all. All this chatter about teams calling for Cam over the last year or so, and this is what materialized.... yikes.

If Cam gets minutes in NY, i fully expect him to go score 18ppg on 40% shooting with zero defense and lots of cheers in the stands.  He'll get extended for some stupid number and I will laugh and laugh.

Cam is 388/588 players in VORP.

    162/184 TRB%

    118/247 Ftr

    61 in USG%

He has been awful at nearly every aspect of the game but needs the ball in his hands to even be engaged. Sorry, but it was time to move on.

Truth bomb here.  He can't fit with Trae, that much is sure.  Knicks will probably let him go all JR Smith, to their detriment.  I'm actually glad it's the Knicks.  Hope they pay him too.

There have been 16 players that played for Atlanta Hawks.  The irony is that the best player to ever wear that number was Doc Rivers.

Simmons is exactly what Atlanta Needs to play besides Trae Young.  He's the defensive player that we need in the Backcourt with Trae.    He's also the offensive player that we need to run the offense and give Trae time off ball.  He doesn't demand the ball so there will be more shots to go around for efficient scorers like JC and Hunter.

The Kids want this to happen:

4 days ago, some child had drawn this:

Ben Simmons and Trae Young (2022) : r/nbacirclejerk

The tell me that the picture was drawn by Will Schlenk....

Simmons became a MEGA chonker in his time off!

  12. The more I think on it, I'm pretty convinced this isn't a direct precursor to another deal.  Just meaning, I don't think Schlenk already has something agreed and we will hear about it in 24 hours type deal.  It's just a matter of getting what you can for a guy that you are ready to move on from and isn't helping your team win and might not be helping your locker room either (which is the scuttle from thecampster).

That said, we are actually more likely to be able to make a big deal if it presents itself, because a pick will naturally have more value than Cam in a package.  We also have two other guys with similar salaries to Cam to include in deals if it comes to that (Dieng, Lou).

It's the same as Bron/Luka/Trae is all just an high end variance of the same bullshit. The wings stand a lot. Only wings and guards that get better from this shit are guys Korver, Klay, J.R. Smith, Snell. Guys who are either movement specialist who run around to get open and they are sharps, spot up specialists like J.R. Smith, and guards who are just scoring based with some movement who really don't need touches like that, like Mo Williams.

    Anyone who needs touches? Nope.

    Look at this shit:

Kyle left Bron ball and instantly started playing well. Part of the reason Utah got Clarkson for so cheap was he sucked in Bron Ball. Bron/Luka/Trae ball is trash. I love all three of these generational rare talents but their style of heliocentric offense is ASS! And I am someone who think's Bron is GOAT. But this offense is so limiting. Almost everyone around them has to be very good shooters or better. What makes matters worse, Trae defense is WOAT so you almost got to get him around stacked defensive players. But he's so small, you need some extra ball handlers but how many 3&D guys got handles, NONE! It's like trying to build a team in a small cage. It's limiting. Idk. This shit is hard.

All of them get more out of bigs than anything, especially Trae. All of them need shooters around for spacing. Man, I am not enjoying watching Trae right now more than any other Hawk. He's ruining shit. I've always said, boom or bust. He doesn't have a middle ground. He's not like Delon where he has a high center even if he has low ceilings.

You are dead right on this.  But I hope you can also see this is exactly why Cam had to go before we paid him.

You and me both. I texted my guy pissed about this and his other text. He texted me last night, he got a bad feeling about Cam which is why I created that thread. He should have said it was for freaking garbage.

Your guy really sold you a bill of goods.  Here's what he said through you for the benefit of the sweaty readers:

    Quote

He’s being told that Cam has drawn the most interest of ANY player on the market. As every NBA team has made an inquiry. I’ve been told the price is exceptionally high considering what they want to trade him for. I’ve been told there is a chance he could be moved but do not bet on it.

    Quote

I am told every NBA team has made an offer for Reddish. None have made a significant one.

Exceptionally high price??  I'm not sure I can really read this stuff anymore, no offense as I know you just share what you hear.  But that bad info I'm sure fed into your prediction, which may have been a touch off:

    Quote

    Supes Trade Deadline predictions:

    ...

    5.      Cam Reddish, yes Cam Reddish will NOT be traded. He is the most wanted man in this trade deadline period in terms of offers but if Atlanta continues to seek high value, the chances of trading Reddish is low.
