  1. I doubt it. He would be around 15-16 and would shoot in the low 40's... he is too slow to create his own shot, that's why despite his shooting touch, he has always been a low percentage shooter. Gilbert is on another stratosphere of speed in comparison to Salim, it's not even comparable.

Did anyone noticed that Lue is on the injury report on ESPN.COM? has anyone heard anything?

  2. The shooting is the problem though... he needs to continue on working to get better shots. I love when he's driving, and I don't mind the turnovers that occasionally come up from him trying to do something going to the hole... but the long jumpers out of rhythm and the errant passes have to stop.

  3. I think Chillz is one of the best 6th men in the league. like most good 6th men in their contract years though, there's gonna be plenty of attention from clubs that will be looking for him to start, and that will mean bye-bye Chillz... unless he's loyal/crazy enough to want to continue to be our 6th man, which is most unlikely.

If the right trade is available before the deadline, I'm jumping all over it.

  4. I think Marvin is close to being the second scorer... there's no reason to think he couldn't develop into a 20 point scorer by next year. (heck, even maybe this year). If Marvin perfects his mid-range jumper to go along with his ability to drive quick to the hole, he's a perfect #2.

  5. Shelden was alright man... he missed easy shots inside and outside, and put the game in peril by missing free-throws. He did pick up important boards, which redeemed his performance from being a bad one. He was not "great" though. JJ was great, Horford was great (when he was in there), Shelden was alright, maybe even good (because of the importance of some of those boards) but not even sniffing great.

  6. Teams can do pretty much what they want for the center court. The Nuggets have these two chisels that, as far as I know, is not their primary or secondary logo. The Celtics, I think, have this commemorative "50 years" logo. If the Hawks had wanted, they could have kept the Hawks primary logo but used the secondary for the center court... I don't mind either way, I think both logos are fine. I agree that the out of bounds area is pretty ugly though.

  7. Goddamn! why didn't I check the boards before the game? Had to listen to it on the Radio. Still, it was exciting to hear Steve Holman call the game. He's probably the happiest guy in the planet right now... this guy is a more hardcore fan than all of us put together.

  8. Josh Smith is an emotional guy, and playing in front of this crowd tonight with the expectations spurring from the preseason, I think he put a lot of pressure on himself to do everything he could to win. I don't think the mindset is wrong, but he needs to learn to control his emotion and channel it into smart play. I think/hope that as we continue to win games and he becomes accustomed to atmospheres like tonight he will settle down a little more.

Law may very well develop into a JT type, but he's got a killer instinct and competitive drive that I still don't see out of JT.

hmm.. I seem to remember JT absolutely dominating in the playoffs two years ago. Perhaps I'm mistaken.

He isn't a perfect PG, but JT always was a competitor in my mind.

The "rebuilding" era is officially over. THe Hawks might end up around $1M or so under the cap (we should know the actual amount by Monday), but that's about it.

Any trades made now have to fit with the 125% rule, as well as the court-ordered "you can't go above the cap" rule.

*sighs* I can't wait for the BK era to come to a close. It's not so much this draft that is the problem, the picks were good in themselves... the problem is all the moves in the past that have preceded this draft. I mean, what direction are we going in? the team has no identity, they seem like a team made through the randomizing feature in some video game rather than a team built with a specific strategy in mind. What kind of team are we expected to be next year? what are our strengths? I have no freaking clue. And I think Woodson and BK really don't either.

So now we have 5 pgs under contract (if you count Salim) and 4 short PF....brilliant.

Yes, because Horford and Shelden can't spend minutes at C. Uh huh...

I can't figure out what people expected. We had picks 3 and 11, not 1 and 4. How we were supposed to solve everything in one night?

I guess it all has to do with the inflated expectations people had thanks to the flurry of trade rumors that hit the Hawksquawk all of this week.

Maybe all of these rumors were just that, rumors, and really had no shot of materializing. Maybe the Hawks did everything right, but the other team(s) involved stopped it from happening. However, judging by our organizations track-record, I can't help but think that we probably dropped the ball somehow.

  12. I really haven't seen these players play much so personally I don't really know what to expect. From the scouting reports I've read it seems like the most realistic thing is to assume Horford will be at worst a 10 and 8 and at best a 15 and 10 guy (in 2007-8 seasons) and Law a better version of Tyronne Lue (14+ points 4-5 assts). If this is the case, then the Hawks haven't really "filled" their needs. However, with Josh Smith, Marvin, and Shelden hopefully improving we would have a TON of depth, and probably will be improved from last year. (borderline playoff team)

What are everyones expectations from these players, and how do you see their presence influencing the success of the team NEXT year?.

I agree that a starting PG is still necessary. And a defensive, role-playing center.

So basically we still need to fill the same two needs we have been trying to fill for the last three years.

    Awesome! BK is a mastermind!
