  1. How about you shoot for his 08-09 attempts? I think they were like once every three games. Hell, less than that. I'd go 2 mill for that. No other 4 can do what he can, but I'll be godd@mned if most of them aren't more intelligent.

Not only are they more intelligent, but they're just better teammates than Smith and not nearly as selfish. Smith clearly only cares about himself. He would rather lose his way instead of doing what is most beneficial for the success of the team. Smith is a guy that puts himself above the success of the team. That's one of the worst teammates you can have. It would be different if he was actually good at shooting jumpers, but he's so selfish that he doesn't care that he doesn't shoot them particularly well. He's going to do what he wants to do. I wonder what kind of players Ben Wallace and Dennis Rodman would have been if they insisted on shooting jumpers and floating around the perimeter.

  2. Josh Smith has got to be one of the most selfish players and one of the worst teammates in the league. He clearly only cares about himself. He would rather lose his way than do what is most beneficial for the success of the team. He's never going to change and a coach shouldn't have to force him to realize that he needs to do what is most beneficial for the team. I used to like Josh Smith, but now he sickens me. It's time for him to move on.

  3. I absolutely LOVE this move. Trading Joe Johnson opens up possibilities that didn't exist for the Hawsks just a month ago. Keeping Joe would have just meant 4 or 5 years of mediocrity and the fanbase would have become even less interested than they already were. Now, the Hawks at least have the CHANCE to be a major player in the Eastern Conference. If they get Dwight Howard, which is now a possibility since we don't have Joe's contract killing the team anymore, then the Hawks will all of a sudden become relevant. That would then open up the possibility to get Chris Paul. That would put the Hawks at or near the very top of the foodchain in the entire NBA. THAT is very exciting. Joe Johnson, on the other hand, is not.

  4. I hate you guys will throw a funeral when he's gone. I really do. I like for Hawks fans to be jubilant. But I'll be throwing an all-weekend block party.

Let me know when you're having your party. I'll be there to celebrate with you.
  5. I always have a bias for local products (Creekside HS, Georgia Stars AAU), and he comes across as having Kevin Martin potential to me. He knows how to find his offense without going all "He Whose Name" on people. I think he could become very efficient in short spurts, and could play well alongside Joe/Marvin at the 3 given the right matchups.

Yeah, I always have a bias for local guys too. Especially when that local guy happens to be my cousin. LOLPosted Image

  6. Great analogy with the Kidd for Devin Harris deal. That's what the New Jersey Nets thought when they just gave away Vince Carter. They still haven't found a 2-guard that was even half of a declining Vince.2 years ago, people thought John Salmons could be the guy to replace JJ. Look where Salmons is now?So who you gonna bring to ATL? Jamal Crawford? lol.

First of all, Joe Johnson has never been even close to athletic as Vince Carter. Second: Joe Johnson is easy to guard. If his jumpshot is not falling, he's next to useless. Third: I believe that Charles Barkley said that a team with Joe Johnson as their most highly paid player is not going to go anywhere. He's absolutely right. As long as Joe Johnson is here with his team-killing contract, this team is going to be stuck in neutral. HE'S JUST NOT THAT GOOD!!!!! I don't understand why some of you guys are so blind to that FACT. In fact, I bet this team could lose Joe Johnson for an entire season, and not be much worse off. Joe is just not that much of a difference-maker. Joe Johnson would be a good 2nd option, and a very good 3rd option. As a 1st option, he's just decent. It's nothing personal against Joe Johnson. It's just common sense. You can clearly see with your own two eyes that Johnson is not an elite player. You can see that he's terrible with double-teams. You can see that he can't beat a double-team because he's too unathletic. You don't see him attacking the basket. You don't see him getting to the freethrow line. You don't see him posting guys up and getting easy baskets around the rim. Again, you can clearly see that Joe Johnson is not an elite player. Yet, he's getting paid as if he's one of the top-5 players in the league. That is not a formula for success. I don't know why you guys can't seem to grasp that simple concept.
  7. Great SGs are harder to find that PFs...I won't do it

Well, Joe isn't a great SG, so we don't have to worry about that. I'd do that trade in a heartbeat. Joe is probably the least athletic, least explosive SG in league. Not only that, but he's also a ball stopper and takes about 20 seconds to make a decision, which usually leads to a Josh Smith jumpshot. No, we can find better than Joe Johnson.
  8. The Bottom line is that if we traded Joe for Harden straight up... no contracts..The Thunder would get better and we'd be out of the playoffs.

You must be joking. I'm sorry, but Harden is better than Joe. He's quicker, faster, and more explosive. Also, he can do what Joe doesn't do: attack the basket and get to freethrow line. I'd love to swap Joe for Harden. The Hawks would be better and I'm certain that we wouldn't be down to the Celtics 3-1 if we had Harden instead of Joe.

LOL!!!! That shot chart is hilarious. Josh will keep on shooting until he proves all of you guys wrong. He's gonna show you all. He's going to prove that he's a long-range assassin.
  10. Unfortunately, I was unable to watch this game. I recorded the game, but I made the mistake of recording the NBA TV broadcast instead of the Sports South broadcast, and the NBA TV channel was blacked out. However, when I look at the stat sheet, my eyes tell me that it's mostly Joe Johnson's fault that the Hawks lost this game. Free throws are another reason the Hawks lost, but this loss is mostly on Joe Johnson's shoulders. He shot 17 shots and only hit three of them. To make matters worse, he only shot two free throws. You can't shoot that much, miss that much, and then only take two free throws. This loss is Joe Johnson's fault as far as I'm concerned. Diesel, I can only hope and pray that the Thunder would think about doing something like you proposed in your trade to get Dwight Howard and James Harden here. I can't stand Joe's game, and I think Harden is a better player.

  11. I can't even believe that this is up for debate. Larry Drew is better than Woody, and it's not even close. Woody only had one simple-minded scheme: Switch everything. It didn't matter if Horford ended up guarding Chris Paul every time or if Bibby ended up guarding Dirk Nowitzki every time. Woody would never waiver from that idiotic "switch everything" defense.

  12. They drafted well at every position and whatever position that they had an overabundance at they traded away to get better balance on the roster. Not revolutionary thinking or scouting but then again it's not hard to beat out a plan that involves drafting nothing but 6'8" forwards to fill out a roster.

Hey, it's all about having interchangeable parts so we can play that switching style of defense.....

  13. New facts to consider...

Two other people were in the bathroom?

    Really?

    Really??

My imagination tells me that there was at least another girl in the bathroom.

Reason being is that if there was another guy in there then this would definitely have been ugly. G.R... However, another girl in the bathroom makes this what she was looking for from the get go... A party.

Seems like Jeff Teague may have been the caboose on the Ho train!

Obviously, Jeff didn't take part in the situation. Otherwise, she would have accused him of more than watching the door.

I get the feeling that her story feel apart at all levels and she took it to NBC because of her parents.

I could be wrong, but what I gathered from the report was that there were two additional people in the hotel room - not necessarily in the bathroom.

  14. The Hawks gave the Wizards their 1st round pick too???? I COMPLETELY missed that. So, they gave up "he who's name shall not be mentioned" AND a 1st round pick??? This trade just gets worse and worse for me. Part of me just can't help blaming Larry Drew for this mess. I don't care what he says. Teague should have been getting way more playing time than he did when Bibby was here. Bibby brought next to nothing to the table. Now, his stubbornness forced Sund to make a bad trade that never needed to be made and trade away valuable assets. "he who's name shall not be mentioned" didn't get enough playing time when he was here either. He should have gotten more. I'm not happy at all about this.

  15. OK. So Teague didn't get any head from the girl, he didn't force her to do anything, and he walked her back to her room and asked her what happened, but he still gets his name dragged through the mud on a national television program??? WHY??? Usually, in a sexual assault case involving more than one guy, both guys get a turn. I don't see why Teague is even being brought up.

  16. At some point... the activities of last night has to be called out. There is no whistle blower. The refs determined the outcome of the game last night with their timely whistles for Chicago and their look aways for Atlanta. Then they paint this picture of "homecooking".

Let's call it out. Stern has his refs to do his bidding in order to increase profit margins. Stern doesn't want low market teams to go to his finals. If you don't believe... think about the teams that have been in and won championships in the last 30 years:

    Bulls, Celtics, Lakers, Pistons, Rockets.

30 years of basketball... 5 championship teams.

    Really?

Didn't the same thing happen with Hulk Hogan? I remember in Wrestling, there was a time that nobody could beat Hogan.

We have the same trick here.

Notice, if anybody says anything about the way games are called, they are then sentenced to Purgatory by Stern.

Ask him about last nights game.

"Studying under d*ck Bavetta for 13 years was like pursuing a graduate degree in advanced game manipulation. He knew how to marshal the tempo and tone of a game better than any referee in the league, by far. He also knew how to take subtle — and not so subtle — cues from the NBA front office and extend a playoff series or, worse yet, change the complexion of that series.

The 2002 Western Conference Finals between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Sacramento Kings presents a stunning example of game and series manipulation at its ugliest. As the teams prepared for Game 6 at the Staples Center, Sacramento had a 3–2 lead in the series. The referees assigned to work Game 6 were d*ck Bavetta, Bob Delaney, and Ted Bernhardt. As soon as the referees for the game were chosen, the rest of us knew immediately that there would be a Game 7. A prolonged series was good for the league, good for the networks, and good for the game. Oh, and one more thing: it was great for the big-market, star-studded Los Angeles Lakers."

"Another thing that Donaghy mentioned that resonates strongly is “superstar treatment.” We’ve all seen the ones who benefit from that. Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade, and LeBron James all seem to live at the free throw line, especially with the game on the line.

It’s gotten so bad for James that he causes a stink when anything is called on him on close games. I have watched many a game where LeBron has benefited greatly from this superstar treatment, and if Donaghy is to be believed, the league not only knows about it, they practically encourage it.

In the book, he says, “Over the years, I have reviewed many recorded hours of video involving Raja Bell. The footage I analyzed usually illustrated fouls being called against Bell, rarely for him. The message was subtle but clear—call fouls against the star stopper because he's hurting the game.”

This is the kind of stuff that cause fans to seethe with anger, particularly those who aren’t fans of the Lakers, Heat or Cavaliers. "

Stuff like this really angers me. The NBA is run by idiots. If they would follow the lead of the NFL and let the players decide the outcome of the games, then the league would be more popular. More people would be invested because they would feel that their team has a fair chance to win a title. Do they not think that people can clearly see that some players can get away with murder while others can't even play good defense without getting a foul called on them??? That is a MAJOR turnoff to a lot of people.

  17. DVR is a wonderful thing, isn't it Niremetal?

The videotape tells the truth. Truth that the human eye THOUGHT it saw, but is proven to be a figment of their perceived imagination. Or better yet, an extreme case of "confirmation bias".

LOL . . let's ignore the fact that JJ got hacked twice in that quarter. Nope . . blame it on the captain.

As for the "hero ball", that's what he's paid to do. And to be honest, he doesn't play hero enough throughout the game, instead, settling until the 4th quarter to try to do his thing.

I don't know what playoff games some people have been watching, but the only ones we've won, are games in which "the hero" has come out aggressively and scored buckets. The Hawks are 6 - 0 in the playoffs when JJ scored 20+ points

So I think people need to start hoping that "the hero" shows up in these next 2 games . . if we even get to a 2nd game.

I must admit. I went back and watched it again, and it does look like Joe was trying to pass Teague the ball when he got it stripped, so I'll have to take that comment back. Maybe I was just feeling at the time that they weren't giving Teague the ball enough or that there was too much isolation play going on or something. At any rate, Joe takes too long to make a move. He needs to make quick decisions. When he holds the ball or dribbles too much, that's when he gets into trouble.
