  1. The first thing you need to do is get a coach in here that actually knows how to lead a team. We stil don't really know what kind of a team we have because Mike Woodson didn't promote team basketball on the offensive end of the floor. Mike Woodson was holding this team back from reaching its true potential.

  2. The head coaches are the biggest problems with the Hawks and the Cavs. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the Cavs lose because they have a liability on the bench. Why did I enjoy it? Because at least we're not the only team with a coach that is clearly holding the team back. When you watch the offense of these two teams, they are almost identical. The offenses are terrible. The other night, Charles Barkley said that it's very frustrating watching the Cavs' offense because it's just like watching the Hawks' offense. Hubie Brown laid out perfectly what's wrong with both of these teams. You can't come into the playoffs with a simplistic offensive gameplan. That simplistic gameplan may have worked in the regular season, but it simply will not work in the playoffs. Woodson and Brown are not smart enough to realize that. Neither of these teams will reach their potential until they get head coaches that have a clue about offense. The Cavs have either the best or 2nd best player in the league. They still lost in disappointing fashion. Being that Mike Woodson and Mike Brown are mirror images of each other, then that just proves that the Hawks practically have no shot at achieving great things if Mike Woodson is retained as the coach. A coaching change MUST be made. I'm not a big fan of Joe Johnson anymore, but I'm also not against keeping him because we really can't get anybody else to replace him due to the salary cap. However, I am COMPLETELY against bringing Mike Woodson back. If Sund brings back Mike Woodson, then we have already lost before the race has even begun.

  3. Sounds to me like Woody is saying

"I'm lost. I don't have a clue how to get your guys to score. Anyone else got any ideas?? Anyone?? Anyone??"

Time for a coach that has a clue about how an offense gets people open.

It's also time to get a coach that actually cares about offense.

  4. We would have lost 4-0 had each game gone into quadruple overtime and been won on historically lucky plays by the Magic but that 4-0 sweep would not have generated anywhere near the same anger that this historically bad sweep did because fans feel cheated and disrespected when the team looks like it is going through the motions and is getting absolutely destroyed on the floor. That is why you don't see the same animosity towards the Jazz among their fans and the national media even though I am sure there are a lot of disappointed Jazz fans. No one doubts that they tried.

I agree with you 100% that we weren't prepared or well coached.

Exactly. All losses are NOT created equal.

  5. He's a much better offensive mind than Woodson is. But lets not make him out to be the mecca of former NBA coaches. I see members bashing Woody left and right like Hubie would just turn Smith offensive game turn into Kevin Garnett's. Joe turns into Kobe. Marvin with his 10 touches a game and four of them being defensive rebounds would turn into Lebron. Woodson is a very good coach, it's angers me when I see other belittle him like he's Lon Kruger.

I just don't understand how anybody can say that Woody is a very good coach. What exactly is he good at? I don't think he brings anything to the table. The Hawks seriously outclassed Milwaukee in the talent department, and Milwaukee still took the Hawks to 7 games. Orlando outclassed us in the talent department, and the Hawks got absolutely smoked in 4 straight games. If that's not a stinging indictment on Mike Woodson's coaching, then what is?

  6. Hubie is being a Monday QB, anyone can do that, in the heat of the moment, I seen Hubie. His defenses were never that good even when he had great defenders like Battier, Posey, and Gasol. He gets a lot out of the offense but your reaching if you think we would have beat Orlando with Hubie.

Never once did I say that the Hawks would have beaten Orlando if they had Hubie. The point is that Mike Woodson has not maximized the talent on this team. If you think that Woodson has maximized the talent on this team, then you're either delusional or you just haven't watched this team that closely. It seems as if all the commentators keep talking about our stagnant offense and how it makes it difficult to score in the playoffs. Woody doesn't care about offense and he allows our offense to become stagnant. How can you honestly say that Woody has maximized the talent on this team when he doesn't even have a clue about offense???

  7. He's right, the players have talent and will get better but they will only get so good in their current roles. Marvin might have a lot of talent and can be a good #2, but is a horrible #5 option, especially on offense. Horford is not a center. Smith is better playing next to an offensively talented center even though he can still be very productive with Horford. JJ is as good as it gets at his current role. A lot of you guys want to blame Woody, but we were not winning that match-up versus Orlando. They had two distinctive advantages and used them to the maximum.

You need to listen to that Hubie Brown interview. Brown has an understanding of the game that Mike Woodson simply doesn't have.

  8. Jeff Van Gundy was talking... He said that Mike Woodson has done a good Job and is a good coach but he has maxed...

He also said that this offseason is a make or break it offseason for the team.

    I think he's gone now....

I know... They were having phone problems.

Van Gundy doesn't know what he's talking about. He's always going to side with the coaches. He basically said that Woody has taken this team as far as it can go because of the players on the team. If you contrast that with Hubie Brown's interview, it's easy to see that this team's talent HAS NOT been maxed out. Woody has just maxed out as a coach.

  9. I can't listen to streaming at work so can someone summarize his point? I'm curious about what he said.

Well, my post above goes into a little bit about what he said. He also mentioned that the switching defense is a problem. One of the most important things that he mentioned was the fact that coaches need to figure out a way to get their top 3 scorers quality shots IN AREAS ON THE FLOOR THAT THEY CAN SCORE IN. He mentioned that just getting a shot is not good enough, because different players have certain areas on the floor where they are more successful. Therefore, getting an open shot in an area on the floor that the player doesn't do well at is NOT a quality shot.

  10. I wish this Hubie Brown could be an assistant or "Senior Advisor " to Rick Sund.

Here is the link, its worth a listen.

Edit - Sorry guys..........it appears like it will be tomorrow until they add this interview to their "interview vault." Every Hawks fan needs to listen to it tomorrow.

While listening to that interview this morning, I couldn't do anything but just shake my head. Hubie Brown has more basketball knowledge in his pinky finger than Woodson has in his entire body. Listening to him break down offense and how it has to change in the playoffs just proves how big of a disadvantage having Mike Woodson as a head coach actually is. Mike Woodson felt as if his system worked fine during the regular season, and he sees no reason to change it in the playoffs. Hubie said that you MUST change your offense in the playoffs because the playoffs are much more difficult than the regular season. Woodson is not smart enough to realize that. Having a coach that doesn't care about offense is not going to cut it when it comes to playoff basketball. I wish Hubie was young enough to coach the Hawks. His basketball IQ is far greater than Mike Woodson's.

  11. Josh really disappointed me tonight. I can't believe that he pulled this crap in a playoff game that was competitive. I have no idea what he was doing early in the 3rd quarter, but I don't think I've ever been that pissed at him before. This was definitely not a good night for Smith. He made himself look really immature.

  12. Pro-Joes bashing Joe!!?? Say It Ain't So!

Nice read on Joe from NBA.com. Peep his mannerisms, speech, head-scratching, and cliched responses. This guy turned down $60 mil. for four years? I don't know what I'm more dumbfounded by: The Hawks offering or him refusing. Amazing.

And no, I don't have a better option or know how much money we can give to whom in a sign-and-trade and what draft picks we can trade and so-and-so's contract movability and money match-ups and all that jazz. That's what Sund gets paid for. All I know is that I want this guy gone, and hopefully he feels the same.

Joe is definitely not good enough to be a lead man. He hasn't earned max contract dollars and he shouldn't get them. I'm actually leaning towards saying that he deserves a pay cut as opposed to a raise. If somebody else is willing to pay Joe max dollars, then let that team be the sucker. Why should the Hawks be the sucker that gives Joe Johnson a max contract and then regrets it a couple of years later?

  13. I mentioned in a thread last week how sick I am that the Hawks took Teague at #19 and the Hornets got Collison at #21. No disrespect meant to Teague but this team would be ridiculous with DC at the point. During the 25 games he started while CP3 was out Collison averaged 18.6pts 8.6assist, 3.8reb and 1.8stls. Getting that kind of production forom the PG position would make ATL unstoppable bibby doesn't even give us half of that. It would make Joe much more dangerous not having to serve as the primary ballhandler and playmaker. He would be far more dangerous. We could dream. Hindsight is definitely 20/20. Maybe the Hornets are willing to move Collison now CP3 is back? I would trade my draft picks and whatever else they wanted for DC lol.

Collison wouldn't have gotten any playing time under Woody. We'd still be wondering if he could play.

  14. The worst no call was when KG made that wide open layup and got HAMMERED by LeBron at the last second coming over to try and block it, yet they still didn't call the foul. I just thought I didn't hear the whistle, I couldn't believe they actually didn't call it and the Celtics entire team was going crazy.

Exactly. Only LeBron can get away with committing an obvious foul. Anybody else would have been called for a foul. It's despicable what the league is doing.

  15. If Woody puts up a hell of a series against Orlando (if we even make that) or goes to the ECF, then I will give Woody props. We're suppose to come this far! Not play all 7 games in the first round against a team who don't have their stars. Come on now.. This is our 3rd year straight in the playoffs. We're suppose to be better than this.

Exactly. The only thing that I'll do is acknowledge that Woody FINALLY pulled his head out of his butt and decided to stop letting his switching D get exploited. However, I'm not giving him credit for doing the obvious. I'm not giving him credit for doing what he should have done a long time ago. Giving Woodson credit for beating the Bucks is like giving a grown man credit for beating up a midget. You SHOULD be able to beat up a midget!!!!
