  1. If we get Asik, either Horf or Millsap is traded or goes to the bench.

More than likely, we get Asik and then we also get a good draft pick (if Brooklyn holds the line).

This is a forward's draft so we will likely come away with a good swingman. No need to keep two top quality PFs. I'm struggling with Horf's health and I don't know how well Horf would play beside Asik. I don't really like the idea of Millsap at SF... I would do it but I would much rather see Millsap at PF and us having a wingman who can fly. People we do need some athleticism on this team.

Horford has been one of my favorite players because of his consistency and energy. However, his health concerns me also.

  2. I hope it's us... It's funny to think that Turks would be the second tallest guy on the team behind only Ayón if signed. Also, here he'd probably start day one. Antić/Sap/Turks/KK/Teague is enough in the East to keep that 3rd seed.

wow, why do you think he would start over DMC?

  3. IMO Muscala or BeBe neither will play significant minutes in the NBA. I hope I'm wrong

Well long term we look at Muscala and Bebe playing their minutes and then draft a SF? That gives us both vets and young guys.

Have to agree. Bebe and Muscalla may never be in a Hawks uniform. Seems like those picks have been high risk high reward.

Go to a jazz board and ask them about Millsap at the 3. He was not good there at all. IMO if we trade for Asik then this offseason we either flip Horford or Millsap for a 3 or 2.

Think you'd be right. Horf or Milsap would be gone.

I don't see the big problem:

    Career:

Asik - 19.2 mpg average; 30.0 mpg career high

    Horford - 34.3 mpg average

    Milsap - 27.8 mpg average

    Positions

    Center 48 minutes available

    Power Forward 48 minutes available

    Small Forward 48 minutes available

    AHF Proposed Rotation

Center: Asik 27 mpg; Horford 15 mpg; Scrubs 6 mpg

Power Forward: Millsap 27 mpg; Horford 19 mpg; Scrubs 2 mpg

Small Forward: Millsap 5 mpg; Others 43 mpg

Asik: Career Avg: 19.2 mpg // Rotation: 27 mpg: +8.8 mpg

Horford: Career Avg: 34.3 mpg // Rotation: 34 mpg: -0.3 mpg

Millsap: Career Avg: 27.8 mpg // Rotation: 32 mpg: +4.2 mpg

So Horford would come off the bench? That would never happen.

  4. He's played some SF in the past and he's quick enough to handle it. I see that as far more realistic than him coming off the bench. At this point I'm hoping we can move Lou to get Asik.

I really like Lou but I'm not sure he fits this system. He has been struggling lately and I'm not sure if he's cold or lost.

  5. I think Millsap is versatile enough to play a lot of 3. Obviously we need a 3 and a 5. I guess I would ask everyone out there what the perceive as a salary for a legitimate starting 5 in the NBA. It was obvious we lost that game last night because of interior defense and rebounding.

completely agree about lack of rebounding/interior defense and offense.
  6. The Omer Asik rumor has been floating around since last year. Apparently the Rockets have a high asking price considering the lack of legitimate centers in the NBA. In the 90s LeBron would never be able to play C and would have a tough time at PF. Nonetheless, if Atlanta traded for Asik what would happen long term? Ideally Milsap isn't traded. And if he's not what do the Hawks do next year? Milsap is a bargain and fits Buds system very well with his high BBIQ. This is the second time one of our favorite Hawks players has gone down for the year. Horford's recovery will be longer and tougher since he injured his shooting arm. Al did express frustration with the franchise in the off season and it wasn't clear if he was hinting towards asking for a trade. This is the issue. If the Hawks acquire a big man and retain Horford and Milsap how do they rotate the 3 players? Horford would naturally fit at PF, however Milsap is not a starting SF in my opinion. I agree that the Hawks needs C and SF, I just don't see how it's possible to retain Horford and Milsap and land a big long term.

  7. Also trading Lou Williams is a must. Just about 4 out of every 5 games from him is bad or mediocre.

Lou looks lost and doesn't seem to fit what Bud is trying to accomplish. They always seem to be arguing on the sidelines during timeouts.

Pero has actually been pretty good, we just have to realize he's not a good defender or rebounder, but he's an offensive weapon. Brand has done really well battling bigger guys and challenging them on his own. But we need a real legit starting C and an upgrade at SF in the worst way.

agree. DMC is a good player however he should not be starting. I would sign Terk considering they need a backup SF and Scott should be playing PF
  8. I disagree. Asik is a poor fit offensively, other than setting picks and getting offensive rebounds he is useless. Defensively he is overrated. It may have been Chicago's defensive system that made him look good because it has not carried over to Houston. His rebounds would be a welcome sight. Asiks best fit for the Hawks is as a specialist who rebounds and sets picks. Not worth Millsap (I know we are not discussing him here) and I question if he is worth adding to our cap for next year because we would really only have the exceptions left after adding him and our picks.

I agree with you completely. I used to watch Asik and wonder why everyone though so highly of him. He did well with CHI b/c Tibidou and DRose and Deng. He would not do very well here.

Those who keep saying we need a big, isn't Gortat a free-agent after this year?

  9. Only way I would want to deal Milsap for Asik is if we got Parsons or Jones or multiple first round picks. Milsap will be a highly sought after target during the trade deadline. Asik's value is at bottom considering the rockets want to deal him within the next 48 hours.

  10. We cannot trade Jeffy without his consent for this season and cannot trade him to Milwaukee even with his consent. Suggesting that we should trade Jeffy over Millsap lacks insight into what we actually can do.

If we want to go into hypotheticals, then discuss hypotheticals that can hypothetically work. This is not under the Hawks control until next year, so why worry about this?

Good to know and shitty to know. What if he agrees to a trade though. Bottom line, thread was created to discuss his regression. Not sure if he is the long-term PG.

  11. We probably would have already traded Teague if not for schroders slow start

Possibly, I think everyone (myself included) had such high expectation for Schröder. We have to remember, he is coming from Europe and needs to adjust. I agree though that JT would have been traded. I still think he is expendable with Macks recent development. Mack looks better running the court anyways. Wonder if LAL or Chicago would be interested in Teague.

  12. Jeff Teague started the season averaging 20.45 PPG and 8.5 APG, both appear to be solid numbers. However, his below 46% field goal percent and awful 3PT % were concerns. Now, he is one of the leading PGs for turnovers. I've voiced my concerns over Teague and lack of consistency for years. He plays at an elite level for a set of games and then shoots 34% for the week and nearly average a 1-1 ratio assist to turnovers.

This team obviously hinders on the PGs success. When Jeff is playing well like he did against Dallas on Nov 29 and SA Dec. 2 this team is capable of winning against some of the best teams. Then he goes silent from the field and looks lost passing the ball, i.e. last night.

Users want to trade Milsap. I think the Hawks should be looking to trade Teague.

  13. What's the difference between a coach in the last year of his contract and the coach in the first year of a long contract?

Answer: One has to win now and one can take time to develop players.

I think LD was given a raw deal: However, at least he wasn't replaced last year. I thought for sure that Ferry would hire Mike Brown.

LD was never going to remain HC when Ferry took over. They have different visions.

I think LD is a great coach. If the Bucks make the playoffs this year though I would fire him. That would be horrible for them.

Great is an overstatement. I think LD is capable of getting a team into the playoffs, just not past the second round. His strategy is predictable.

  14. I disagree. I find this team very entertaining. There's so much more happening each possession than before.

And, if dunks are your cup of tea, there's Milsap and Horford who can both throw it down with authority (or evil intent).

You're right. However, most of the city of Atlanta doesn't agree. This team has not had a superstar since Nique left. If they want fans to get behind them then they need to get a star. Despite the fact that Howard was never coming to Atlanta, and I'm glad he didn't, all your average fans did was complain how the Hawks did not land DH.

  15. Did this happen? Or is this a suggestion?

If Shrod was demoted, I'm not surprised. He hasn't been getting any minutes and Mack has evolved into a solid backup PG. Many members on this forum suggested Mack would be playing at this level when we signed him last year. I'm glad to see he has developed. I believe Bud is a major reason to his growth.

  16. The reason we lost this game, along with DAL, LAL, and DEN is because of poor perimeter defense. Carrol is solid, however he shoudln't be playing 20+ minutes a game. Once Lou returns our defense will be worse. The Hawks need to either look for a SF that can play defense, or look for a big man and make Milsap their 6th man.
