  1. Sources say the Hawks, meanwhile, have not been outright told they are out of contention, but they are the only one of the five teams to be granted face-to-face sitdowns with Howard this week that has begun to move on to other free-agent business as opposed to holding out hope that Howard remains gettable.

    The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Mike Budenholzer acknowledged that he has had several conversations with Hawks general manager Danny Ferry about the team’s yet-to-be vacant head coach position.

The Spurs assistant coach, one of several known Hawks candidates, told the San Antonio Express-News that he had a recent face-to-face meeting with Ferry recently. He declined to give any specifics of the meeting.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported May 18 that Budenholzer had been interviewed by the Hawks

“I want the focus to stay with what we’re doing,” Budenholzer told the paper the Spurs clinched a spot in the NBA Finals Monday. “What I will say is I’m open to listening and considering opportunities more so than I have been in the past. But I really don’t want this to become a story or a distraction in any way.”

There is no NBA rule that prevents a team from speaking to a candidate in the employ of another team, even during the playoffs, as long as permission is granted. Ferry has a relationship with Budenholzer having worked for the organization on two separate occasions, including as assistant general manager before joining the Hawks.

Budenholzer has spent 18 seasons with the Spurs, two as the video coordinator, 16 as an assistant coach with the past five as the top assistant to Gregg Popovich.

“I think he’s evolved to the point he’d like to do it on his own and see what he can do,” Popovich told the paper. “So I think in the contacts he’s had this year, he’s more interested in following through and getting a job.”

Budenholzer is also reportedly a candidate for the Pistons’ vacant head coach position.

  3. Like I said, the Hawks cannot compete with this veteran team. They needed to go up 2-0 at home to even sniff a chance, but now it's all but over. Especially with Smoove hurt. I suggest you don't tune into the rest of these games, unless you want to watch your team make a mockery of the fans and city again. The 4th quarter separates good teams from elite teams, and Boston is elite. They are old, but they still own us regardless of the large lead we had, until it was CHOKED away by ridiculous turnovers and stupid shots. I hate the Celtics, but I won't be biased and have faith in a team that you can NEVER count on. Boston was weakened and the team laid down. LD looked dumb as he was being outcoached yet again. Doc Rivers doesn't even look at LD as competition.1-4Gear up for next season because the Hawks are done. Stick a fork in 'em.

    Well said!
  4. The Hawks are a middle of the pack team...always has and always will be until the team is sold and a new leadership and direction is brought in. The owners wanted to sell th team for the last couple of years but couldn't and now all of sudden after the sale fell through they were ALL IN for keeping to the team.If the roles were reversed with Doc and Larry Drew as coaches...WOW at how good I believe this team would be.

  5. Don't get me wrong...Teague has had a "couple" of flashes in the past in games where we all thought he had turned the corner, but he reverts back to the Teague we all know majority of the time. Is he a victim of poor coaching?...perhaps. But maybe he is better suited as a backup point guard in this league.
  6. Steals do not equal elite defense....not even close. Elite defense is shutting your man down...staying in front of him...preventing him from getting good shots or getting to the basket. Getting steals just mean that you take chances.

Capstone hit the nail on the head...
  7. Was completely outcoached and did not make adjustments well...but I am sure most people are going to say it was just fatigue, sorry that excuse won't fly because Boston played with the same limited bench.
